Letter from the Principal
Dear Parents,
You may have noticed that the construction site at school continues
to be a hive of activity with the foundation for the new building
currently being laid. Work is progressing well.
Our first fire drill of the year took place last week and was very
successful. I was particularly pleased with the orderly and disciplined
way the classes evacuated the site and assembled promptly in good
order.
On the 28th and 29th October you will have the opportunity to meet
your children’s class teacher to discuss progress. We have changed
the format due to parental feedback and will keep this under review.
My thanks go to the parent and staff volunteers who are engaging
with the refugee efforts together with the Luxembourg Red Cross. If
you can help, even for an hour or two, it really can make a difference.
With my best regards,
Dr. Barkei

Fruit for School Scheme
Commencing Thursday 1st October we have joined a Luxembourg
Government incentive so that all children can benefit from one piece
of fruit per week. More information will follow.
St George’s Digital Leaders in the Primary School
We are excited to announce the launch of a new role for students
in Primary - Digital Leaders. Digital Leaders are students who
have been recognised as having considerable strength in their
understanding of technology. Digital Leaders will meet with Miss
Watson once a week at lunchtime for a range of activities, such
as reviewing new apps or websites, deleting photos from iPads or
flipcams and creating resources about e-safety.There will be two
Digital Leaders chosen for each year group from Year 2 to Year 6.
Any student from Year 2 to Year 6 who wishes to become a Digital
Leader will need to submit an application explaining:
• Which types of IT they know how to use (iPad, laptop, presentation
software etc)
• What they have used IT for (programs, apps, blogs)
• Which tasks they think they will be able to help with
• Which personal learning goals they have that will help in this job
The application can be in any form, (letter, poster, presentation,
audiofile) and must be submitted to Miss Watson by the end of the
school day on Friday 9th October.
Assessment in the Primary School | Tuesday 6th October
We have previously announced that the government in England
has changed the way children are being assessed in schools. The
national system of levelling has now been removed, and schools
have been asked to implement their own methods of assessment.
If you want to find out more about how we will assess progress and
attainment in the primary in the future, please come along to our
Assessment Information meeting on Tuesday 6th October from
8:45 to 9:45am.

we use at St George’s, Education City. Education City is used in school by the teachers to
support student learning in English, Mathematics, French, Computing and Science. Students
can also access these learning platforms at home using their school logins. In this way, you
can see some of the work that your child has been doing and your child can continue their
schoolwork at home if they wish.
Further information can be found here which is also available in the Primary Resources area
of the Parent Portal. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Watson at [email protected].
