Jacques Desruisseaux à Amsterdam et Toronto à l’été 2013
Originaire et résidant de Lennoxville en Estrie, Jacques Desruisseaux est bachelier en arts plastiques et en
histoire de l’art (baccalauréat combiné de l’UQAM et de l’Université Laval). Son travail s’engage
principalement dans les installations contextuelles et le développement des signes exprimés sur des plans
diversifiés ; géographique, sociaux et environnementaux.
Boursier à plusieurs reprises depuis 20 ans, notamment au Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, le
Conseil des Arts du Canada, la ville de Sherbrooke et la SODEC, il possède à son actif des réalisations d’art
public et a présenté une trentaine d’expositions individuelles et collectives ainsi que des résidences d’artistes
ici comme à l’étranger (Écosse, Mexique, Belgique, France, Hollande). Durant quinze ans résidant à la ville de
Québec, il a œuvré comme technicien aux ateliers de l’Œil de Poisson (Québec), ainsi que dans différents
ateliers d’artisans spécialisés dans le travail du bois et du métal. Il poursuit actuellement sa recherche en
sculpture sur la relation d’ambigüité de l’être humain à son environnement, ses choix, ses interventions, ses
actions.

Buitenwerkplaats Amsterdam, is setting up a landscape laboratory; an open platform and international
space to meet, to lodge and work at the theme of our landscape. A growing worldpopulation, shrinking rural
regions, intensive and innovative foodproduction, energylandscapes, rises of the sea-level, growing interest for
cultural heritage and nature. All these exciting issues will influence the landscape surrounding us. We would
like to stimulate the development and exchange of ideas and knowledge, by organizing and hosting projects
and events in this field.
Buitenwerkplaats has become a gorgeous plot near Amsterdam with a farmhouse that has been rebuilt to host
several people working at different projects. For half a day or for some weeks. In the overwhelming study or in
a workshop. Alone or with a team. Seperated or in company. Apart or together. We have created space to
think. We have created space to make very big artworks. We have created space to meet eachother. Nature
continuously changes the panorama. And the spirit is given by all the people coming her to work, create, write,
think, paint, weld steel, cook, breathe, to construct, be quiet and invent all over again.

Artscape Gibraltar Point is located in the former Toronto Island Public and Natural Science School. Artscape
Gibraltar Point offers 35,000 square feet of affordable retreat space, artist studios and accommodations for
artists and creative thinkers. The tranquil, idyllic setting is world-renowned as a centre for members of the
artistic and non-profit communities to think, experiment, collaborate and share ideas.
More than 800 artists have experimented and created art through self-directed artist retreats and
programmed/thematic residencies hosted in our overnight accommodations. In addition to visiting artists,
fifteen long-term artist work studios provide space for a range of painters, sculptors, musicians, theatre
companies and a recording studio – all of whom contribute to the unique and collaborative atmosphere at
Artscape Gibraltar Point.
