Work with a partner and prepare a poster telling about the weather in a Francophone
country. Your poster can be either specific about this week’s weather or general about the
weather each month in that country. If possible, you will want to include some pictures of
people under the various weather conditions.
Materials: a poster board, colored pens, scissors, glue or tape, library and / or Internet
access
Preparation:
• Decide on which Francophone country you will research or get the name of a country from
the teacher.
• Review the weather expressions you think you will need.
• Research the weather, including temperature, in your country using library resources while
your partner uses the Internet for the same purpose.

• Photocopy pictures that you will use on your poster.
• Clip pictures from magazines or make photocopies.
• Write brief captions in French for each picture: (Ex. Il pleut à Tahiti).

Learning Scenarios
Au cinéma?
Work with a partner and discuss going to a
movie or a concert. Use real newspapers in
French or copies of such publications as
Pariscope as available in your classroom.
Cinema listings and on-line copies of
Pariscope are also available on the Internet.
In the end, decide on two events you will go
to together. If time permits, join another pair
and ask one another what outings you are
planning on.
Scénario 2 La liste des anniversaires
In your notebook, make a list of the
members of your class. Next to each
persons’s name, write his/her birthday with
the date in French. In order to do this, you
will need to circulate among the class and
ask classmates their birthdays.

France?
Quels sont les congés en
As in the United States, the French look
forward to holidays for a day off from school
or work. Sometimes, these holidays fall near
a weekend, allowing for a long weekend
(faire le pont). Use the Internet to find a
listing of the main holidays in France. See if
you can determine which holidays provide a
pont. Circulate and share your findings with
some classmates.
Scénario 4 Le temps d’aujourd’hui
et de la semaine
Reflect on today’s weather, that of the last
few days, and the predictions for the rest of
the week in your area. Look up and
compare with the weather in France or
another Francophone country. If necessary
research this information in newspapers or
on the Internet. Then make a mini poster
telling of the weather day by day in both
places in French. Illustrate the weather
expressions you use. Display your poster in
the classroom.

Activité 5
C’est quel jour de l’année?
Form groups of four. Each of you writes down the date of a popular U.S. or French holiday in
French on a slip of paper. Collect the slips and exchange them with another group’s. Each of you
then chooses a date from the pile, draws a pictoral representation of the date, and has others in
the group guess the date in French. For example, if you choose le vingt-cinq décembre, you
might draw a Christmas tree. The first group to guess all four dates correctly wins.
Activité 6
Quelle est la date?
Research the following dates for this year:
Pâques
Yom Kippour
la Saint-Patrick
le premier jour du printemps
l’Ascension
la fête nationale canadienne
le premier jour de l’automne
le début du Ramadan
la fête nationale française
la fête du travail (française)
