What’s special about London buses? They’re big and red !
Do many people travel on London buses?
Yes, every day there are five million journeys on London’s five thousand buses.
How old is the London bus?
The traditional ‘Routemaster’ buses are fifty-two years old. These double-decker buses have a
driver and no door at the back. Some people say they are dangerous. And in 2005 – it was the
end of the Routemaster bus.
What buses are there now?
London still has double-deckers but they are modern. London also has a new type of bus – the
bendy.bus !(…)

Bethany Hamilton is not a normal 13-year-old. She is a champion surfer. This is
not the only amazing thing. Bethany only has one arm. Why? A shark attack…
Bethany tells her story.
I live in Hawaii and every day I go surfing. That day, I got up at five o’clock as usual
and I went to the beach. It was a beautiful day and the water was calm. I was sitting on
my surfboard with my hands in the water. Suddenly, something pulled my arm. A
shark! Then I looked at the water. The water was red – my blood!!
When I woke up I was in hospital. The doctors told me I only had half of my blood
and I didn’t have my left arm. But I didn’t care. I was just happy to be alive.
