The Multiple Errands Test: Developing, Administering and Scoring
Site-Specific Versions
Presented by Dr. Emily Nalder and/or Dr. Deirdre Dawson
Take advantage of this one-day highly interactive workshop to enhance your knowledge on executive functioning and the Multiple Errands Test (MET), one of very few
standardized, ecologically valid assessments of executive dysfunction available. Participants will have the opportunity to experience doing a MET in small groups, practice
scoring and interpreting a MET through a case study, then create a version of the MET for use in their workplace.
This workshop is ideal for occupational therapists, occupational therapist assistants and neuropsychologists who work with clients who present executive dysfunction (such
as survivors of acquired brain injury, stroke, schizophrenia and other brain disorders) and who wish to develop a version of the MET for their clinical site to assess the client’s
ability to conduct real-life tasks.

Momentum (Online Mentorship Module)
CAOT`s Momentum consists of four webinars that allow individuals/mentees to explore the concepts of mentorship, coaching, networking and
partnering. The webinars provide an opportunity for a mentee to be matched with a mentor based on similar values, interests and professional paths.
During a 3-month period, mentees and mentors are paired to address the reflective goals established by the mentee and guided by the mentor.
Mentees are:
Mentors are:
• Recent graduates of occupational therapy programs
• Seasoned occupational therapists that can share
professional experience and help younger or less
experienced occupational therapists with a career
development path
• Internationally educated occupational therapists
• Occupational therapists re-entering the workforce
• Occupational therapists transitioning into new roles

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
Presented by Kim Hewitt
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day standardized training developed to offer individuals with the skills for brief, crisis intervention when suicide is
a risk. Recognized by the World Health Organization as a standard for suicide intervention training, ASIST is an opportunity to develop tangible skills in suicide intervention.
The course is created to address attitudinal shifts, awareness and experiential learning through role play. The trainers will apply an overarching occupational lens to the
two days. Concepts such as how role loss, occupational loss, occupational deprivation, functional loss and meaningful occupational engagement can be connected to one’s
story about suicide will be explored and applied. Role plays and practice will weave occupational case scenarios for easier application to participants’ practice environments.
This workshop is ideal for occupational therapists, occupational therapist assistants, students in occupational therapy programs and students in OTA/PTA programs who
wish to increase their skills in assessing and addressing suicidality.
Agenda - Day 1
Agenda - Day 2

Selecting the Best Articles and Finding the Relevant Information to
Advance Your Practice
Presented by Dr. Julie Lapointe
Advance your practice by participating in this interactive one-day workshop and learning how to be an efficient consumer of research through a proper selection of
scientific papers and the reading of the most relevant parts of an article. Participants will gain or refresh their knowledge about the main research study design and they will

help them determine which types of research are the best ones to answer their practice questions.
This workshop is ideal for occupational therapists, occupational therapist assistants, students in occupational therapy programs, students in OTA/PTA programs and other
health professionals with a novice level of expertise in evidence-based practice who wish to bolster their efficiency and confidence in reading scientific articles.

Strategies for Success: Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational
Performance (CO-OP)
Presented by Dr. Angela Mandich and Dr. Helene Polatajko
Equip yourself with CO-OP, an evidence-based treatment approach that has been researched extensively with many client populations, including developmental
coordination disorder (DCD), stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), cerebral palsy (CP) and autism. This practical three-day workshop is designed for therapists who wish to
expand their knowledge of the CO-OP approach and how it can be helpful with a variety of client populations (both with children and with adults). During Day 1 and 2,
participants will learn the rationale for using the CO-OP approach in their practice and learn its key features. Through examples from clinical practice, participants will have
the opportunity to apply the framework and practice the key features. Day 3 is a consolidation day which will focus on the participants’ experiences with implementing the
approach in their practice, addressing learnings and challenges.
This workshop is ideal for occupational therapists, physiotherapists, other health professionals and teachers who wish to become confident in using CO-OP with children
and with adults.
Agenda - Day 1

Psychosocial Risk Factors and Return to Work …
Let’s Get Started
Presented by Nancy Gowan and Lorraine Mischuk
Back by popular demand, this hands-on workshop provides you the opportunity to learn how to identify psychosocial risk factors and cognitive components with a
Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) or a Functional Assessment (such as worksite assessment, gradual return to work program assessment). You will learn about evidenceinformed assessment tools and physical/cognitive/visual demands analysis and how to use this information in a clear job match process for return to work. Video clips and
small group activities will be used to help you integrate the information and apply to your practice.
This workshop is ideal for occupational therapists and students in occupational therapy programs who wish to learn more about complex return to work management using
a holistic approach.
This workshop was formerly titled “The Nuts and Bolts of Sustainable Return to Work Programs: The Whole Deal” and offered in Fredericton, Ottawa and Vancouver in 2014.

Enabling Occupation Through the Assessment and Treatment of
Cognitive Impairments in Adults
Presented by Debby McQuillen
Back by popular demand, this two-day hands-on workshop will provide occupational therapists with the opportunity to learn and practice functional structured activities
used to assess and treat cognition in adults. A number of standardized assessments will be reviewed and their strengths and limitations will be identified. Participants
will have the opportunity to analyze cognitive skills and discuss how to identify a client’s cognitive strengths, reduce impairment and provide accommodation to enable
occupational engagement.
This workshop is ideal for occupational therapists working in a hospital or community practice setting who work with clients who present cognitive impairments
(e.g., dementia, acquired brain injury, stroke) that impair their ability to participate in their valued occupations.
