Title subhead
MidGee and MidGee Hoop
cross flow cartridges
MidGee™ and MidGee Hoop cross flow cartridges are
designed for small scale processing, rapid laboratory
concentration and/or diafiltration of critical biological solution
volumes up to 200 ml with convenience and speed
impossible to achieve using stirred cells or dialysis tubing.
These disposable hollow fiber cartridges minimize membrane
polarization due to the “sweeping action” generated by a
recirculation pump. Data derived from tests with these
cartridges can be used to linearly scale up to larger cartridge
and system designs or for scale down process optimization
and troubleshooting experiments.
Two MidGee Hoop cartridge path lengths are offered that
correspond to the lengths of Amersham Biosciences
pilot/production scale cartridges. Within those two lengths,
there is a complete series of MidGee cartridges to match
laboratory, pilot and production scale designs. The uniform
flow path design from laboratory to production scale makes
hollow fibers the most attractive of the various cross flow
configurations for linear scale-up.
Figure 1. MidGee Hoop cross flow cartridges are available in two sizes to
match the path lengths of GE Healthcare pilot and production scale hollow
fiber cartridges. MidGee Hoops are perfect for scale-down trials.
MidGee cartridges are optimized for use in our compact
MidJet™ Cross Flow Filtration System, which includes a
miniature peristaltic pump with exchangeable saddles to
accommodate size 14 and 16 tubing; reservoirs for retentate,
diafiltrate and permeate; precision backpressure control
valve; and a convenient platform for mounting the cartridge
and pump with recesses to accommodate three reservoirs.
An advanced MidJet system with two pressure transducers
and digital panel meters is also available. Low system holdup volumes allow concentration to volumes as small as 2-5
ml. Autoclavable reservoirs and a three-port (feed, retentate,
permeate) pressure transducer with a temperature probe are
optional items.
Typical applications
MidGee hollow-fiber cartridges are available in a wide range
of ultrafiltration and microfiltration pore sizes for a wide
variety of laboratory applications. When used with a MidJet
system for precise control of recirculation rate and pressure,
MidGee cross flow cartridges assure high product recoveries
with minimal shear denaturation.
