SUBJECT: Development Application Information on Councillors’ websites
OBJET : Renseignements concernant les demandes d’aménagement sur les sites
Web des conseillers municipaux
PURPOSE
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide background on a
presentation/demonstration to be provided to the Planning Committee. The
demonstration will highlight the collaboration between the Information Technology
Services (ITS) and Planning and Growth Management departments in creating a tool to
facilitate access to ward-specific development application information on individual
Councillor websites.
BACKGROUND
Some Councillors have expressed interest in providing an opportunity through their
websites to facilitate constituent access to ward-based development application
information. While this information is available on Ottawa.ca through the DevApps and
‘In My Neighbourhood’ tools, access through Councillor’s websites provides another
opportunity for constituents to gain access to development proposal in their own ward.
DISCUSSION
Utilizing the existing technology developed by ITS staff for the ‘In My Neighbourhood’
application available on Ottawa.ca, ITS has created a way to display information on a
Councillor’s individual website for development applications happening in each ward.
The information displayed will default to applications in the Councillor’s specific ward,
but residents will have the ability to also access the applications occurring in other areas
of the City. As this information is linked directly to the same source as ‘DevApps’ tool,
there is no updating required by staff, and the information provided is always current
with what is managed in the system.
CONCLUSION
ITS will provide support to those Councillors who wish to display this information on
their websites.
