On the island of Djerba, in the Tunisian South, an old black woman is
locked up in a house. Few people are allowed to see her.Some people
talk about madness …some talk about a serious disease … some others
talk about an excess of fury.
This woman is called Elloulou .she is also called "ezzaïma" (the leader). She is a
pioneer of negro music on the island. An attractive character who faced all the
forbidden rules of a slave society . It is the story of Elloulou through her children
and grand children who continue to perpetrate this thousand-year-old art but by
giving it the aspect of a flourishing business.
Sur l’île de Djerba, en plein Sud tunisien, une vieille femme noire est enfermée
dans une maison. Peu de gens sont autorisés à la voir. On parle de folie … on
parle de maladie grave…on parle d’accès de fureur. Cette femme est surnommée
Elloulou on l’appelle aussi ezzaïma (la leader). C’est une pionnière de la musique
noire sur l’île . Un personnage fascinant qui a bravé tous les interdits d’une
société esclavagiste..C’est l’histoire d’Elloulou à travers ses enfants et petits
enfants qui continuent à perpétrer cet art millénaire mais en lui donnant des allures
de business florissant.
