The contract notes the courses to be covered and their credit value under ECTS. Credits: - In order to facilitate student exchanges and grading of courses completed at one of the partner universities the universities participating in the ERASMUS exchange have put in place a system for transfer of academic credits: ECTS (“European Credit Transfer System”) - The system is based on the translation of credits for the sum of work representing a complete year of study, or 60 credits for an academic year and 30 credits for a semester. - On this basis, each course results in a certain number of credits. This number is a function of the volume of work that the course represents in relation to the total volume of work necessary for completing a whole semester and/or year. Grading system: All education received at the host university is graded according to the rules of that university. Successful course completion gives the right to earn a corresponding number of ECTS credits. Upon return, each student receives a transcript of marks for each of the following: specifying the course title, the duration and value in ECTS credits, the grade obtained at the host university and its conversion to the ECTS grading system: A (excellent); B (very good); C (good); D (satisfactory); E (passable); FX (insufficient); F (failure). Systems of conversion exist for the majority of countries in the Community. The 2nd cycle consists of two years; the second year leads to diploma MASTER. The 3rd cycle leads to a thesis. The LMD rests on a semi-annual organization. Each semester is comprised of 12 weeks of courses followed by two to three weeks of exams. The first semester (including exams) begins around the 20th of September and ends in late January. The second semester (including exams) begins around the 1st of February and ends in late June. Each teaching unit (Unité d’Enseignement/ UE) is defined in European credits taking in account the number of hours the student needs to obtain this UE (theoretical courses, practical courses, and homework). Each semester is worth 30 credits. MODES OF TEACHING - Lectures in amphitheater (CM) - Directed work (TD) - Seminars At the beginning of each course of study, the teacher gives the students a bibliography and a detailed outline of the course. As a general rule the courses do not have specific prerequisites for Erasmus students except when indicated. The master courses involve knowledge acquired in the Licence program. FRENCH IS THE WORKING LANGUAGE FOR ALL COURSES ASSESSMENT METHODS Notice: Only student administratively registered (student card) can pass an exam. Two modalities are combined to successfully validate a teaching unit: continuous assessment and final exam. The exams take place on a period of 15 days. No specific registration is required and no convocation is given to take an exam. Days and time of the exams will communicated on a poster in the university. The only condition to be able to take an exam is to register at the teaching unit at the first semester for the January session, and at the second semester for the June session. Any grade mark equal or superior to 10 out of 20 is definitely acquired and can’t be improved. Written final exams are anonymous. For undergraduates, each semester is continuously followed by an exam session. A second session is proposed in April for the first session and in June for the second session. For graduate students, only one session is proposed continuously to the semester. Students in mobility are subdued to the same test conditions as the other students. In very specific cases some modifications can possibly be done on the condition of consent of the coordinators (in Paris 5 and the student original university), the teachers concerned, and the people responsible of the diploma. Written exams: - The duration of each test is two or three hours, and they must be written in French. The use of a foreign language or French language dictionary is authorized for ERASMUS students (for most exams). - Students involved with the TER (research project) must write a research report.
