Press Release For Immediate Release Edith Butler, patron of the 6th National Conference to Defeat Cancer Montreal, November 11, 2013 – The Québec Cancer Coalition is delighted to announce the participation of the renowned singer-songwriter Mrs. Edith Butler, as the patron of the 6th National Conference to Defeat Cancer, which will take place on April 3 and 4, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Montreal. "I’m proud to have agreed to be the patron of the 6th National Conference to Defeat Cancer" said Mrs. Butler, "Many of us have lived or still live with this disease. In my case, having had breast cancer has given me renewed energy and stirred my creativity, and it has taught me to appreciate each moment that I’m given. I want to share with all of you that it’s important to love and enjoy life. Whoever we are or wherever we are, there’s always a being, an animal or a flower to love around us. And that alone has healing powers. Let us work together to defeat this disease and in the meantime learn to live with it.” "For all those who are affected directly or indirectly by cancer or who have an interest on the topic," adds Edith Butler "I urge and welcome you to participate in the 6th edition of the National Conference to Defeat Cancer. I look forward to seeing you there on April 3 and 4, 2014.” Cancer: a chronic disease like any other? With its "Cancer: a chronic disease like any other?” theme, the 6th National Conference to Defeat Cancer will deal with major topical issues regarding this topic. One major issue is the fact that cancer has become a chronic disease. Indeed, thanks to the advancement of research, to the development of professional practices and the emergence of new and innovative treatments, including personalized medicine, patients are living longer and have better chance of surviving. Speakers and renowned experts will address main topics in regards to the fight against cancer. Vital testimony, which will be presented both on stage and on screen, will reflect the reality of people affected by cancer. In its second year, the “celebrity breakfast” will once again be part of the 6th National Conference to Defeat Cancer’s program. It makes interaction between both participants and public figures that are affected by cancer possible. The third edition of the Pat Burns Award will honour outstanding caregivers who have distinguished themselves through their commitment and through their outstanding support for a person with cancer.
