“Transparencies”, a report from
the photographer’s imaginary world
The images from the “Transparencies” series
borrow both from the pictorial tradition and
from the very modern photographic process of
digital fusion.
Régis Colombo’s compositions owe a debt
both to reportage - with moments of eternity
captured by the photographer - and to the
waking dream - in which the traveller’s good
and bad memories are all mixed up - and
recreate the quintessence of the places he has
visited, such as New York, Dubai, Paris, Istanbul
and Zanzibar. The dozens of images assembled
into large pixel frescoes always have more than
one story to tell. Seen from a distance, they draw
the eye, hypnotise it like a neon light, and then
imprint themselves upon the memory with all
the power of a flashbulb. When you draw near to
them, they reveal a never-ending stream of little
anecdotes, curiosities glimpsed, deliberately
provocative winks and smiles.
Colombo’s images are different each time you
immerse your gaze in them and they transport
those who linger over them to the ends of the
Earth, at the same time giving them the most
fabulous of all the freedoms offered by travel,
the freedom of the imagination.
Each mural is made only with pictures of the place
visited and photographed . All images come every
time the same country or even city. All the effects are
derived directly from the camera.

Régis Colombo - a painter in pixels
Transparencies
The Swiss photographer Régis Colombo has
made a name for himself both in his own country
and abroad through his portraits, his advertising
work, his landscapes and, above all, through
the long journeys he has been making for more
than ten years now. This snapshot backpacker
has travelled all over the world, including Asia, Africa
and both North and South America, to forty or so
countries, usually preferring to take paths which no
telephoto lens has ever travelled before. Because his
indefatigably curious eye - which is sensitive to even
the slightest variation in the light, demanding
nothing less than technical perfection - is
always looking for a photograph, a photograph
concentrating the nuances, vibrations and
moments of magic which words simply cannot
describe. Ever since he began work on his
“Transparencies” series five years ago, Colombo has
been edging closer to this ideal of one perfect image
containing all others, all sensations and all emotions.
There are collages full of violently expressionistic
colours – his computer mouse is handled here with the
same freedom as a brush on canvas, genre scenes
reminiscent of an electric Jérôme Bosch, digital
heirs to pop art, indeed, Colombo’s photographs are
constantly alluding to painting. In actual fact, the artist
was a painter long before he became a photographer and this is why
his impressionistic “Transparencies” transcend the photographic image
and enrich the beholder.

The Swiss Art Swiss was established in
November 2006. The main object is to promote
new talents in different artistic fields (painting,
sculpture, photography, visual installations etc).
Supporting new and young artists provides an
alternative to presentation of the well known
and recognizes artists.
Since September 2010, the Swiss Poster
Museum was opened at the same location
and it has already exhibited over 150 posters
created by some of the most well known
masters of poster art.
The space has been equipped to standards
comparable to the most prestigious
international galleries
