White-water rafting, amazing wildlife and dining under the stars — this
trip ticks all the boxes for Jane Anderson
I have really confused my kids. All these “bonjours” and “ça va biens”. All these
incredible “parcs nationaux” and mighty “rivières”. All these “loups” (wolves), “ours
bruns” (brown bears) and “baleines” (whales). It’s ten-year-old Scarlett’s and sevenyear-old Fin’s first experience of North America, and people are speaking French.
We’re in Quebec, Canada’s fiercely independent province. It’s a bit like Scotland but
much, much bigger. Quebec is, in fact, seven times the size of the UK and most
people also speak English, so our half-arsed French isn’t called on too much.
We’re here in August to experience one of travel’s most
