I received an e-mail from my brother enclosing a scanned copy of a
document that he came across in a prayer book that belonged to my
Father. We have concluded that it must have been a prayer that he
said at the occasion of his bar mitzvah; probably in 1913.
Dad
Lord my God thanks to your providence, I was born and
I was educated in the faith of Israel, I was instructed in the
precepts of the holy religion, and I approach with joy your
sanctuary to promise you to always observe them. Although
still young and weak, I am not afraid of the many duties
that were imposed on me on this solemn day because I know
that in your love my God, you direct strengthened the steps of
your children, I am ready to solemnly confess the unity of
your Name and the truth of your eternal law that was
revealed to Moses.
Yes I promise from the depth of my soul to remain
faithful to you, my Father and my God, to never
intentionally violate the precepts of your law and obey your
commandments until death.
Receive me into the covenant of my Fathers. Strengthen
my soul in the practice of virtue. Teach me to resist the
examples of impiety and inspire me with your spirit so that
your will, will always be mine and I will set my happiness to
please You and adore You.
O my God give good health to my Father and my Mother
and all my family.
Let the lessons and advice of my parents and pious men
grow in my heart, that the example of their lives always be
the guide for my actions, so that I may be worthy of your
blessings O my Father!
That the promise I make today be always present in my
thoughts; that it reminds me at all time that I have
contracted in the presence of all my brothers to devote to you
my body and soul, because it is to You Lord that I belong;
and if my childhood has been a preparation for admission
into your covenant on this earth, must prepare me for an
eternal covenant in heaven.

Eternel mon Dieu grâce à ta providence, je suis né et j’ai été
élevé danse la foie d’Israel, j’ai été instruit dans les préceptes de la
sainte religion, et je m’approche avec joie de ton sanctuaire pour te
promettre de les observer toujours. Quoique jeune encore jeune et
faible, je ne suis point effrayé des nombreux devoirs qui m’ont été
imposés en ce jour solennel , car je sais, mon Dieu que dans ton
amour, tu diriges et raffermie les pas de tes enfants; je suie prêt à
confesser solennellement l’unité de ton Nom et la vérité de ta loi
immortelle que au as révélée à Moise.
Oui je promets du fond de mon âme de te rester fidèle, mon
Père et mon Dieu, de ne jamais violer volontairement les préceptes
de ta loi et d’obéir jusqu’à la mort à tes commandements.
Reçois moi dans l'alliance de mes Pères. Affermis mon âme
dans la pratique de le vertu. Apprends-moi à résister aux exemples
de l’impiété et inspire moi de ton esprit pour que ta volonté sois
toujours la mienne et que je mette mon bonheur à te plaire et à
t’adorer.
O mon Dieu donne la bonne santé à mon Père et ma Mère,
ainsi qu’a toute ma famille.
Fais fructifier dans mon cœur les leçons et les conseils de
mes parents et des hommes pieux ; que l'exemple de leur vie soit
sans cesse le guide de mes actions, afin que je me rende digne de
tes bénédictions , o mon Père.
Que la promesse que je fais aujourd’hui , soit toujours
présente à ma pensée: qu’elle me rappelle à toute heure le devoir
que je contracte en présence de tous mes frères de te consacrer
mon corps et âme, car c’est à toi, Seigneur que j’appartiens; et si
mon enfance a été une préparation pour être admis dans ton
alliance sur cette terre, ma vie entière doit me prépare à l’alliance
éternelle dans le ciel,
