à{ DCC GREY CUP CELEBRATIONS & DINNER jxwÇxáwtç? bvàÉuxÜ DJ? ECDE The Rideau Club will celebrate the historic Grey Cup at a dinner event Wednesday October 17 featuring a talk by Mark Cohon, Commissioner of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He will talk to Club members and guests about the quintessentially Canadian game and its part in our national identity. The Hon. René Marin, a long-time Club member, will introduce Mr. Cohon. At a reception prior to the dinner, Governor General David Johnston will speak for a few minutes about the history of the game and greet several former CFL players who will attend the event. In 1909 the then Governor General Lord Grey presented the first Grey Cup for “the team winning the senior amateur football championship of Canada”. Because the championship game was not played during some of the First World War years, the CFL final in Toronto this November will be the 100th Grey Cup game. The cup, which is now awarded for professional football in Canada, is the second oldest trophy in North America after the Stanley Cup and the championship game is Canada’s single largest annual sporting event. 65$ (Dîner et vin) Cocktails à 18 h 30 – Dîner à 19 h 30 Cravate et veston SPECIAL GUESTS Jim Foley Ted Smale Drafted by the Montreal Alouettes' in the 1970 CFL College Draft, winning the CFL's rookie of the year award in 1971 and later won the 1975 Most Outstanding Canadian Award and two Grey Cups with the Ottawa Rough Riders Member Ottawa Rough Riders in the Canadian Football League 7 years - from 1956 to 1962.
