 PRESS RELEASE 03/ 08/ 2012 COMICDOM CON ATHENS 2012 MARCH 30, 31, APRIL 1 The enchanting world of print pop culture comes to life for the seventh consecutive year in COMICDOM CON ATHENS, the only domestic festival exclusively dedicated to comics. A wide program of events over a period of three days promises a treat to all fans of the Ninth Art of all ages, as well as to all those willing to acquaint themselves with popular heroes, exciting adventures and celebrated artists. ComicdomCon Athens is organized by the Hellenic American Union in association with Comicdom Press on March 30, 31 and April 1, 2012, at the Hellenic American Union premises in Athens. Asserting once again that the love for comics knows no artistic or geographic boundaries, this year’s event hosts artists such as the Italian veteran (and extremely popular in Greece) Milo Manara (HER BUTTON, BUTTERSCOTCH); the highly accredited British scriptwriter Mike Carey (X‐MEN LEGACY, THE UNWRITTEN); the up‐and‐coming Turkish artist Yildiray Cinar (FURY OF FIRESTORM, LEGION OF SUPERHEROES); the British artist Rufus Dayglo, widely known for his work on TV series TANK GIRL; the independent American artist Douglas Paszkiewicz (ARSENIC LULLABY) invited by Jemma Press; and the British illustrator Zara Slattery (SKETCHES BY BOZ) invited by the British Council. This year’s exhibition titled 2000 A.D.: The Judge Dredd Revolution, is dedicated to the historic and highly influential British anthology 2000 A.D., “home” of the world renowned comics character Judge Dredd since 1977. Exhibits shall include works by Dave Gibbons, David Lloyd, Carlos Ezquerra, Trevor Hairsine, Ron Smith, Mick McMahon and Colin Wilson. As always, a special module of the exhibition is dedicated to the very young fans of the Ninth Art. The event’s special program for children includes comics familiarization seminars that combine knowledge acquisition with creative playing, as well as screenings of the animated motion picture DESPICABLE ME, courtesy of Sony Pictures Entertainment Hellas. In addition, Comicdom Con Athens 2012 and UIP invite the festival’s young fans to the premiere screening of the highly anticipated and US box office hit animated feature movie, The Lorax (opening at Greek theaters on April 5). Additional Comicdom Con Athens 2012 features include further film screenings, workshops on the arts of scriptwriting and illustrating, a Greek comics stores’ and publishers’ bazaar, the Comicdom Awards – the only prizes exclusively awarded to Greek comics creators – as well as the second staging of the Cosplay Competition, an event that rightfully stood out as last year’s event highlight. As is customary, this year’s catalogue cover shall be specially illustrated by one of the distinguished international artists hosted at the exhibition, namely Milo Manara. Official illustrations of Comicdom Con Athens 2012 have been designed by the illustrator and comics creator Alexia Othonaiou. As always, admission to the Comicdom Con Athens 2012 is free of charge, and a copy of the illustrated catalogue shall be distributed gratis to each guest, along with a program of events for the three‐day duration of the festival.
