March's Volunteer Profile
f,'rank Cottier was born and educated in
Lancashire, England and he immigrated
to Canada in June 1968. Before joining
I*,.A, Seniors Outreach Services in June
of2007, Frank clocked over 30 years
experience in the computer and
communications industry many of
which wene spent as a senior executive
and consultant in the areas of quality
rmprovement and information technology. After retiring he began looking
for a pastime in order to keep his brain active and engaged. Frank believes
strongl y that the mind is a muscle and you have to use it to keep it toned
and fit-that's where SOS came in. He and his wife Maddy had lived in
Napanee for many years, preferring a small town over large cities and had
decided to stay in Napanee when they retired. This decision necessitated
Frank dusting offhis skills and making some new connections.
Frank is very interested in genealogy and has spent a great deal of time
developing his expertise in tracing his family's roots. This passion led him
to organize the Family History Group which meers regularly at sos.
Although he is still an active member of the group, he has turned over the
reins and no longer heads it, but he thoroughly eqioys sharing stories and
hearing about other people's experiences in their quest to find their roots.
Over the years Frank has been involved in many facets of our organization
and has shared his skills and knowledge in many different ways. In
addition to the family history group, Frank has taught computer classes
like digital photography and Skype, worked on various eommittees
including fund-raising and public relations, and has been a vcry dedicated

Frank found SOS to be an important resource in Napanee and has been a
great ambassador for our organization. " It is good- place to meet
new
friends and to connect to the town as well as a" place io find other resources
for seniors." Becoming involved in the organization keeps you alert and
avoids loneliness, and Frank notes that people who are lãnety are more
vulnerable. soS keeps you connected. He also feels that beionging and
volunteering helps members to stay healthy and engaged and cul* do*n oo
hospital visits.
After 8 years of volunteering with sos and the Reaching out, Frank and
Maddy are moving out of the area. We would like to thank thcm both for
their dedication and for the many hours that they have spenr with us. rü/e
wish both Frank and Maddy well in their future adventures.
