DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF OPERATIONS Brigadier General Olivier Pougin de la Maisonneuve Brigadier General Olivier Pougin de La Maisonneuve was born in 1957 in Paris. As a graduate of the Saint-Cyr Military Academy in the “Général Rollet” class (1978/80) he chose the armoured cavalry after his two-year training period. E U R O C O R P S In 1981, after having left the initial branch training in Saumur, he joined the “503ème Régiment de Chars de Combat” (armoured regiment) in Mourmelon where he served for two years as Lieutenant and tank platoon leader. Detached to the French Ministry of Youth and Sports – National Horsemastership Academy – in Saumur in 1983, he attended the one-year long civil training course for riding instructors before serving three years long as Lieutenant and sub-horsemaster and then as Captain and horsemaster of the “Cadre Noir” simultaneously acting as chief of the civil riding instructor training and practicing riding competition in the military discipline. Reassigned in 1987 to the “6ème Régiment de Cuirassiers” (armoured regiment) in Olivet, he served as deputy commander and then as commander of a tank squadron for three years. Promoted to the rank of Major in 1991, he was detached again to the French National Horsemastership Academy as Chief of the Organisation, Assets and Training Branch. From 1994 to 1996, he attended the 108th class of the Advanced Staff Course and the 3rd class of the Joint Service Defence College. He was commissioned as Lieutenant-Colonel in 1995. He then joined the “1er Régiment de Cuirassiers” (armoured regiment) in St Wendel (Germany) where he served successively as Deputy Commander from 1996 to 1998 and as Commander from 1998 to 1999 when the French Forces stationed in Germany were disbanded. In 1997 he executed an operational mission in Bosnia at the Multinational Division South-East as chief of the liaison elements to the factions. He was then reassigned to the Military Sub-District of Limoges in order to participate in the buildup of the Force Headquarters No 4 that was created on 1 July 2000. He was promoted Colonel during the same year and assumed the function of Chief Operations Branch (G3) for two years. Deployed to Bosnia in 2001, he was given the responsibility of Chief Operations Center of the Multinational Division South-East. Designated anew as commander of an armoured regiment (6/12ème Cuirassiers), he went to Olivet in June 2002 for two years during which he was deployed to the Ivory Coast with his unit. Assigned to the French Army Inspectorate in Paris in 2004, he was given the responsibility of Headquarters, Intelligence and Special Forces Expert to the Inspector-General. In 2006, he joined the French Army Human Resources Command as Chief Combat Branch (infantry, armoured cavalry and sports) where he served for three years. Commissioned as Brigadier-General on 1 August 2009, he joined the Eurocorps on 1 September as Deputy Chief of Staff Operations. General de La Maisonneuve is Chevalier in the Order of the Legion of Honour, Officer in the National Order of Merit, holder of the Military Merit Cross and other national and international decorations.
