PRESENTATION ISMAEL a)Guillaume Apollinaire He was a French poet, born in 1880, he was enlisted for service in WWI and was seriously wounded. He died in 1918. He wrote many poems, including “Calligrames” which are concrete poems:the meaning is conveyed through its graphic shape onthe printed page We „ve chosen The stabbed dove and the fountain b)Lecture en français = voir fiche 1 ….................... c)Now 3 parts of the poem in English = Yannis Lecture en anglais de 2 passages= voir fiche 2 …......................... II. INTERPRETATION JIMMY a) The poem The poem is composed of two parts: The Dove and the fountain Usually the dove is the symbol of peace but here it‟s stabbed because of the war There is a lexical field of war all along the poem: Death ,war, bloody , enlisted, fight He talks about his friends(men and women) who disappeared because of the war. The war has destroyed everything around him. It's only devastation, sadness and desolation. b) The painting = MAELYS The same feelings are conveyed in the painting A Taube by Nevinson. The painter fought in WW1 in the French army. This painting is a testimony and a denunciation of the war.It is really realistic. We can see a child lying on the floor, everything is destroyed around him, he has been killed by a shelling. III. CONCLUSION =ELINE Both the kid and the dove represent innocence and peace which have been devastated by war. The painting and the poem denounce that peace and innocence have been the victims of WW1.
