Dr. Joseph Antognini- A Commitment to Learning
G Eo M lBdA e n S uG cr ca ed s ss Dr. Joseph Antognini A Commitment to Learning UC Davis Health Systems Anesthesiology Doctor Joseph Antognini has always had a fondness for numbers. He was an economics major at UC Berkeley before getting his M.D. at USC School of Medicine. In 2008, he enrolled in the Sacramento State College of Business Administration MBA for Executives (EMBA) program’s SMUD #2 Cohort to explore the administrative side of delivering medicine. “I learned how to address ‘people problems’ in a formal way,” Antognini said. “That was very valuable.” Although Antognini taught classes in addition to his case load and research on pain processing, being a student after more than two decades meant making time for as much of 30 hours a week in class and studying on top of his day job. The commitment paid off, however. After graduating from the program in 2010, he was promoted in November to Director of Perioperative Services, a position that puts his new education to work every day. “My goal is to remove obstacles so doctors, nurses and staff can be more productive and efficient while maintaining patient safety and satisfaction,” Antognini said. 8 SACRA M EN T O s tat e | w w w . c b a . c s u s . e d u “My goal is to remove obstacles so doctors, nurses and staff can be more productive and efficient while maintaining patient safety and satisfaction.” —Doctor Joseph Antognini
