The tools of MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio
MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio of SEW-EURODRIVE is characterized by being straightforward,
user-friendly and universally applicable. The tools are integrated in a modular software
system and can be used for all units. Whether you use them individually or combined, the
tools are essential for quick and effective automation. The MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio
detects all the stations connected to the configured interfaces automatically and displays
them as nodes in a unit tree. The required tools can be selected and started quickly and
easily in the context menu of each node.

Communication with the
SEW Communication Server
In order to make use of the developments in industrial communications, you can operate
MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio using a variety of communication media (such as Ethernet,
PROFIBUS, MPI, CAN Bus, RS-485, etc.).
Drag and drop is used for configuration with the SEW communication server. MOVITOOLS®
MotionStudio can be operated via up to four communication channels at the same time.

The number of unit parameters of inverters from SEW-EURODRIVE varies
depending on the unit type and field of application.
In complex areas, such as servo drive technology, the MOVIAXIS® multiaxis servo inverter and the MOVIDRIVE® drive inverter offer an accordingly
complex set of parameters. Products used for decentralized installation,
such as MOVIMOT® or MOVIFIT®, have a small number of parameters.
The ”Parameter tree“ of MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio is a uniform editor for
setting parameters for the various unit types.

Configuration and startup:
For adapting the inverter to the connected motor and optimizing current,
speed and position controllers.
The ”Startup“ tool assists you optimally when configuring inverter and
gearmotor. The software wizard offers step-by-step support to the user
for entering the necessary application data, such as acceleration,
deceleration and velocity.
The ”Startup“ tool then automatically calculates all parameters for motor
control and for optimizing control systems, such as current, speed and
position controllers.

PLC editor
Programming of the MOVI-PLC® controller series by means of
preconfigured application programs which can be used for all units.
The preconfigured application programs for the MOVI-PLC® controller
series can be used for all units. To do so, the user can make use
of multi-product editors for parameter setting and the PLC editor, an
IEC-61131-3-compliant programming editor.
Libraries
Efficient programming demands user-friendly function modules that enable
fast and approved solutions. The PLC Editor provides a comprehensive
range of function modules for a wide variety of tasks, arranged in hierarchical libraries according to functionality. In addition to a library for standard
IEC functions, there is also a library for each drive electronics component,
in which modules provide the corresponding drive functionality. The libraries
also contain the familiar PLCopen-certified motion blocks. Furthermore,
there are libraries for technology functions, such as synchronous operation,
electronic cam, virtual encoder and cam controller, right through to readyto-use application solutions, such as handling. These function modules can
be combined easily to create individual, tailor-made solutions.
Diagnostics, an oscilloscope program for all SEW-EURODRIVE inverters.
Scope
The ”Scope“ tool for MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio is an oscilloscope
program for all inverters that enables customers to optimize the drive
themselves.
Example: The inverter records, for example, response functions to setpoint
changes in real time. This information is transferred to the PC and graphically displayed there.
”Scope“ at a glance:
– Visualization: Scope can display up to 8 analog and digital measured
variables in differently colored curves. Both the x-axis and the y-axis can
be scaled as required.
– Scope also enables you to record digital input and output signals of the
inverter. Complete program sequences of the master controller are thus
recorded and then analyzed.
– Scope supports simple documentation of the set parameters and the
recorded measuring data by means of the ”save“ and ”print“ options.

MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio comes equipped with the Application Builder,
an editor for creating user-specific visualizations and applicationspecific diagnostics.
Direct communication to parameters and variables enables the user to
display actual values and messages and modify process values and
data. A direct visual reference to the machine or system is created by
the integration of graphics and images.
The Application Builder prepares the application in such a way that the
user only has to enter mechanical data for startup. If the user creates a
diagnostics monitor, all process data, terminal states and text messages
will be available at a glance.
The visualization can even by linked with the associated inverter
program (IPOS) and the required parameter settings via file download.
This enables user-specific condensation of the diverse functionality of
drive inverters and controls so that even “non-specialists” will be able to
operate the units.

PDO Editor
Process-data-object editor for graphical configuration of the process
data of the MOVIAXIS® multi-axis servo inverter.
The PDO Editor (Process-Data-Object Editor) is a tool for the MOVIAXIS®
multi-axis servo inverter for graphical configuration of process data. The
process data are linked by drag and drop, which means the interface
between servo inverter and master controller is configured graphically.
The user interface of the PDO editor consists of 5 segments, which
reflect the structure of process data communication between master
controller and servo inverter:
– The first segment displays the input options for the process. The
process can be controlled via binary input terminals or via fieldbus
systems.
– In the second segment of the PDO Editor, the process input data is
converted to internal system variables.
– This is followed by data processing (3rd segment) and conversion of
internal system variables to user units (4th segment) and to process
output data (5th segment).

Einachs-Positionierung
Simple configuration of the MOVIAXIS® multi-axis servo inverter for
positioning applications.
The MOVIAXIS® technology editor ”single-axis positioning“ guides the
user step by step through all necessary settings for configuring the
MOVIAXIS® multi-axis servo inverter. The user only has to enter the
application-specific parameters. The technology editor also configures
all process data objects with the corresponding function control blocks
(FCB). Furthermore, it offers the option to operate the drive in control
mode. In this case, the system configuration can be tested without
connecting a PLC.
