61 round herself in a drcle. Graduallygeneral symptoms of a tumour were added and those typieal for the premotoric zone: vasomotoric disturbances on the contralateral half of the body, impairment of subtly coordinated movements without paresis, grasping mov, ements, slight stiffness and statie ataxia. Post-mortem a glioma was found, limited to the left pr~motorie zone. Size and myelinisation of the pyramidal tracts are the same on both sides. Anatomie. Anatomy. - BOER , A. p.434. DE : On the sex-determination on the human femur. Af ter a short review of literature attention is called to a number of sexual differences of the human femur. A method is proposed for determining the sex of th is bone. The following factors were dealt with: 1. the volume; 2. the volumefactor; 3. the maximal length; 4. the volume-index; 5. the weight; 6. the distance from caput till vertical (line); 7. the distance fr om condylus tibialis till condylus fibularis; 8. the distance c~put-condylus fibularis; the last three in projectionon the horizontal plane. The volume proves to be of considerable value for the determination of sex, not only in the femur, but with other human skeletal material as weIl. The same is the case in anthropoids, most probably also in numerous other animais. 100 X volume (cm 3 ) . . . The volume-factor: . II ( ) IS of still more Importance for maxima ength mm the determination of sex. It enables us to make a correct diagnosis of sex with practically absolute certainty. Of less importance are the maximal length and the volume-index: 10.000 X r vol. (cm 3 ) maximallength (mm) 62 The weight is one of the best sexual characteristics. For comparing skeletal material of different origin it is of no great value as age, conser~ vation, burial period, havetoo much influen<:e on th is factor. The characteristics 6, 7, 8 are usefull helps in determining the sex of the bones. For diagnostic purposes the followiog method is advised. Fix: 1. maximal length; 2. volume; 3. volume~factor; 4. bicondylar width; 5. the distance caput-vertical line; 6. the distance caput-condylus fibularis; 7. the volume-:index. From these data the third (volume~factor) is the most important one; under 106 the bone belongs to a female individual, above 106 to a male one. For fixation of the nUIIlber 106 ("critical value") see text. The available evidence suggests that the TRINIL femur, found by DUBOIS, of Pithecanthropus erectus is a female one. Anatomie.
