ARRILASER
The Standard in Film Recording
EXCEPTIONAL PICTURE QUALITY
TURN-KEY SYSTEM CONCEPT
The ARRILASER offers unsurpassed resolution,
dynamic range, and color fidelity on intermediate
film stock. Finest detail, high contrast, true color
reproduction and solid image steadiness are the
trademarks of the ARRILASER.
The ARRILASER covers the full dynamic range
of 2.046 status M densities above base on intermediate material.
The ARRILASER is designed as a turn-key system,
it comes with a dual processor host computer,
image processing software and an optical link
between host and recorder. These components are
specifically designed for an optimum performance
of the ARRILASER.
EFFICIENCY & PRODUCTIVITY
The fast recording speed of the ARRILASER gives
you the outstanding throughput: 2.9 seconds for a
high resolution 4K image, and 1.7 seconds for the
lower resolution 2K image. This exceptional productivity combined with the built-in reliability of
an ARRI product, the easy handling and the onthe-fly image processing gives you the best price
performance.
SOLID ARRI ENGINEERING
Lasers as light source deliver precision, power and
color fidelity in an unsurpassed dimension. The
ARRILASER is driven by three solid state lasers.
The advantage of these lasers is performance stability,
long lifetime, low heat dissipation. And these lasers
are the basis for low operating cost and performance
characteristics.
The ARRILASER
bridges the gap between digital film production and analog film
projection. It is the only cine film recorder that uses three solid
state lasers as light sources, and has set a standard in productivity
and reliability, significantly reducing the cost of recording digital
images onto film.
The ARRILASER continues the company’s tradition of developing
excellent products for cine film production. Sold since 1999, the
ARRILASER soon became the world wide standard for digital
film recording – one of the core components of the Digital
Intermediate process.
THE ARRILASER OFFERS
• exceptional picture quality
• film transport features including auto-feed,
fast forward and reverse shuttle modes,
separate magazines for supply and take-up,
quick and easy film loading and handling
• job management
and image processing capabilities
• highest throughput
• large 2000 ft magazines
• peace-of-mind reliability and robustness
• reliable ARRI service
• quick installation and easy operation

ARRILASER OPTIONS
ALICE:
The ARRILASER Interactive Configuration Editor gives a visual control over the whole image processing and
offers the fastest, easiest and safest way to generate an image processing configuration.
CMS:
The ARRI Color Management for videolook offers the possibility to match the colors of the film projection
result perfectly with the colors of a video monitor as part of the ARRILASER image processing.
Camera Negative:
The camera negative option enables the ARRILASER Speed Performance and Speed 2K
to shoot also on camera negative film stock.
HD Module:
software plug-in that allows recording of native 1920 pixel per line (HD files) for full aperture and academy
formats without rescaling
Native Academy Module:
3 Perforation Option:
Aquamat:
software plug-in that allows recording of 2048 or 4096 pixel across the academy area without rescaling
recording of 3 perforation hight images
Automated image analysis system for 35mm film. A transportable device to measure image quality (geometry,
photometry, MTF, flare, signal to noise gamma, shading) and recalculate compensation parameters. Speeds up
service and reduces machine downtime. A statistic function allows to describe performance over time.
Aquamat Lab:
Automated Printer Analysis Tool for Film Laboratories
The Aquamat-LAB measures field uniformity, image sharpness, format and anamorphic distortion. The results
are directly provided to the user. Measurements maybe extracted from film printers (contact and optical) at
each step in the printing process
ARRILASER TECHNOLOGY
IMAGE QUALIT Y
HOS T COMPU T ER SO F T WA R E
The image quality is the most outstanding feature
on the ARRILASER. Having the full dynamic range
of 2.046 status M densities above base on intermediate
material any given contrast range can be covered.
As the linear stage and the deflecting mirror produce
perfectly straight lines in both directions perfect
picture linearity is the result. The position and the
size of the image are arbitrarily adjustable. In the
ARRILASER a perfectly shaped laser beam is
depicted on the film without any flare. All three
lasers (red/green/blue) are adjusted to match on
one spot. Color convergence of the whole image is
therefore perfectly adjusted.
The ARRILASER is controlled by a special designed
host computer software. With its built-in image
processing functions and the user friendly graphical
interface a highly efficient working is guaranteed.
Easy calibration software ensures a perfect result.
Running on a Windows XP platform the host computer can be easy integrated in your production
environment.
All image quality parameters can be controlled permanently with our Image Quality Analysis tool
Aquamat.
FILM TRANSPORT AND
DEFLECTION SYSTEM
Moving parts in the ARRILASER are designed to
have a minimum of wear. A dynamic air bearing
motor, which has no mechanical friction during
operation, is used to achieve the required speed for
the deflection of the beam. Line by line is written
on the film in an ultra precision linear stage.
A linear induction motor moves the stage through
direct magnetic induction without any additional
moving parts like gears etc.
The ARRILASER film transport system is specially
designed for best quality and performance film recording. The pin registration (Bell & Howell standard)
used in the ARRILASER generates an excellent
steadiness. The linear stage gives the opportunity to
select a pull down like 3 or 4 perforations. Both
formats are fully supported on the ARRILASER.
There are also a number of user friendly features
that no other recorder can offer:
• optional 1000 ft or 2000 ft magazines
for high-volume production,
• fast forward and reverse shuttle modes for
higher efficiency (frame line accurate),
• auto-feed and auto-cut-off mechanisms for
quick and easy film handling,
• and separate supply and take-up magazines for
increased flexibility.
LIGHT SOURCES
A N D B E A M PAT H
Three solid state lasers are used in the ARRILASER
producing monochromatic light beams in the colors
red, green and blue. They have a perfect gaussian
shape, very high life expectation, minimum size and
power consumption. The optical elements in the
beam path were designed for space research projects
where precision and robustness are all important.
The data for each color channel and pixel is fed to
an acousto-optical modulator as a light intensity
value according to which the beam intensity is
controlled. Acousto-optical modulators translate
the digital data of each pixel into beam intensity in
less than 30 nanoseconds.
