According to the records, the month of March indicated a rise in the number of visitor arrivals by 35% over February 2012. In comparison to the same period of previous year, visitors also show an increase of 20%. This is due to a rise in the number of holiday visitor arrivals to Vanuatu in March 2012. There was a very large increase in cruise ship visitors (day visitors) for the month of March 2012 compared to March 2011 due to a higher number of cruise ship visits in March 2012, increasing from 5 to 12. Out of the total number of visiting cruise ships in March 2012, ten carried more than 2,300 passengers each as compared to only four in March 2011. However, when compared to the previous months, statistics were still lower than February with a decrease of 21% due to lower number of cruise ship visits. -1- Visitor Arrivals by Air Cruiseship Arrivals Number of Visitors 30,000 25,000 20,506 20,000 15,000 10,000 5,000 7,613 6,343 5,303 0 Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar 2012 Figure 2: Number of monthly Visitors by air and Cruise ship PURPOSE OF VISIT Out of the total international visitor arrivals in March 2012, 79% came to Vanuatu for holiday and 13% arrived in the country for conferences, meetings and other business.
