Historien d’art, passionné par le 18e siècle, Jean Havin
baigne dans les ventes aux enchères depuis longtemps.
Marié à une Valaisanne, le Français vient régulièrement
à Crans. Pour la première fois, il a décidé d’organiser
une vente aux enchères de prestige à l’Hôtel Guarda
Golf, le 21 février prochain dès 17 h. «J’aime la station,
nous mixerons pour cette vente l’ancien et le moderne»,
explique l’historien d’art, «il faut juste que les objets
soient beaux, il y aura des objets de valeur bien sûr mais
aussi de plus petits lots qui iront parfaitement dans les
chalets de Crans-Montana». Des tableaux, du mobilier,
des objets d’art, des bijoux scrupuleusement authentifiés
avant la vente. «Parmi les lots les plus prestigieux, seront
présentés deux tableaux du 18e siècle, un peintre qui
travaillait pour Marie-Antoinette», informe encore
Jean Havin, qui sera, pour l’occasion accompagné de
Jean-Claude Renard, commissaire-priseur parisien et
Me Crittin, notaire à Sion. De son côté, Jean Havin fait
le reste, alerte son large réseau, édite le catalogue, mène
la vente…

«Tout ce qui est très beau se vend très bien», aimet-il rappeler. Alors pourquoi vend-on généralement?
Parce que le mobilier est vieux et que les enfants,
lors de décès, ne sont pas intéressés à le conserver,
certains vendent pour acheter de nouvelles choses…
«Contrairement à ce que l’on croit, beaucoup de
ventes sont joyeuses car les vendeurs apprécient
changer leur intérieur…».

Jean Havin, an art historian with a passion for the
18th century, has been immersed in the auction
world for a very long time. The Frenchman, whose
wife is from Valais, regularly comes to Crans. For the
first time, he has decided to organise a prestigious
auction sale at the Guarda Golf Hotel on the coming
21st February at 5 p.m. “I’m fond of the resort, we’re
going to mix old and modern for this auction sale”,
the art historian explains, “the objects simply need to
be beautiful; there will be valuable items, of course,
but also small lots that can go perfectly well into the
Crans-Montana chalets”. Paintings, furniture, works
of art, jewellery that have all been scrupulously
authenticated before the auction. “One of the finest
lots will certainly be two 18th century paintings
by a painter who worked for Marie-Antoinette”,
adds Jean Havin, who, for the occasion, will be
accompanied by the Parisian auctioneer Jean-Claude
Renard and Maître Crittin, a notary from Sion.

his wide network, editing the catalogue, leading the
auction sale…

sells very well
“Anything that is beautiful sells very well”, he likes to
point out. So, in general, why do people sell? Because
the furniture is old and the children, when someone
has passed away, are not interested in keeping it;
some sell in order to buy new items… “Contrary to
belief, many auction sales are joyful occasions as the
vendors enjoy changing their interiors…”
