Instructions for authors
We ask the authors:
- to submit their contribution (paper, reading note, review) only electronically and in a ".doc" format to
David ENGELS, Director and Editor in chief of LATOMUS ([email protected]).
- to pay a special attention to the homogeneity of your footnotes, bibliographical references and
quotations.
Body text
- no words in capital letters, except for epigraphic papers;
- quoting ancient Latin: please replace j with i and lower case v with u (thus iacio, Iuppiter, iuuentus, uultus, but
Vultus, Verbs, Vergilius) ;
- please avoid bold letters.
Footnotes
1) For references to ancient sources:
- always abbreviate the author and title of the work (if there are more than one associated to the author)
by using the lists of abbreviations pertinent to the language you use (Gaffiot, Liddell-Scott, DNP, ThLL,
etc.). Furthermore, avoid Roman numerals (except for CIL). E.g.:
- JUV. 6.53-59 or JUV. 6.53-59, DION. HAL., Ant. 2,3,4 or DION. HAL., Ant. 2.3.4..
- CIL XIII, 8553 ; AÉ 1932, 27.
2) For references to secondary literature, please adopt the “Harvard-system”. E.g.:

3) Please always indicate the first and last page of a paper.
4) Please make use of “in” in all languages to indicate where a paper is published, instead, among
others, of “dans” in French or “en” in Spanish.
5) Places of publication will appear in a homogeneous manner: either all names in the language of
your paper (paper in English: Bruxelles => Brussels; Milano => Milan) or all names in the country
language (Köln, Milano, London, Moskva, etc.).
6) If an author wrote more than one title during the same year, please add a letter to the date.

Textes grecs
Please inform the editorial office about the font you use; also join, in case of problems, a printed copy, a
pdf or a scanned version of the text to your manuscript. We recommend the use of an Unicode font.
Quotations
Ancient Latin quotations: in italics without quotation marks;
Ancient Greek quotations: in roman type without quotation marks;
Modern quotations (contemporary Latin included): in roman type between quotation marks.
N.B. Please provide translations (in roman type and between quotation marks) of ancient Greek and Latin
quotations only when absolutely necessary and stick, if possible, to the original text.
Illustrations
Please join illustrations of good quality (on paper or in a digitized version) and ascertain from the
concerned authors or museums your right to use them (sending a copy of the acceptance to the
redaction).
Reading notes and reviews
Neither “notes de lectures” (reading notes) nor scientific reviews should contain footnotes (references, if
necessary, are to put between brackets in the text) or paragraph breaks (in order to mark subsections,
please use long dashes: –).
