Nieuws vanuit het Bestuur
Het nieuwe jaar is inmiddels alweer een maandje oud en voor of achter de schermen zijn de
vrijwilligers volop aan het werk. Van de penningmeester heeft u inmiddels uw contributienota
ontvangen, de Showcommissie met de showteams zijn druk doende met de organisatie van de shows
in Hapert en Hasselt, de redactie werkt aan het eerste Alpaca Magazine, de Adviescommissie gaat
zich buigen over de erkenningen en de Stamboekcommissie heeft haar eerste workshop
georganiseerd. De vertaalsters zijn druk bezig met de website en infobrieven te vertalen en het
bestuur werkt aan verbetering van de communicatie door het uitgeven van een maandelijkse
nieuwsbrief, waarvan dit uw eerste exemplaar is.
Het aantal leden in januari 2016 bedraagt totaal 136. Helaas hebben 5 leden per 1 januari hun
lidmaatschap opgezegd, maar daarentegen hebben zich 6 nieuwe leden aangemeld.
Mocht u vragen hebben naar aanleiding van een artikel in deze nieuwsbrief, neemt u dan gerust
contact op met de betreffende commissie. Wij wensen u veel leesplezier met deze eerste

Show Hapert:
De inschrijvingen voor de Junior Handler en buffet/diner in NH Koningshof op 19 maart 2016 zijn
geopend. Wilt u hieraan deelnemen? Dan kunt u boeken via: www.alpaca-benelux.com / Mijn
Account / Extra Mogelijkheden (onderaan inschrijfformulier Show Hapert).
De inschrijvingen sluiten op 15 februari 2016. Wilt u voor die tijd uw inschrijvingen controleren op
chipnummer, scheerdatum, juiste prefix en diernamen? Zorg ervoor dat u alles compleet en correct
hebt ingevuld.
Voor Belgische deelnemers: u dient zelf een aanvraag in te dienen bij het FAVV om toestemming te
krijgen om op 20 maart 2016 terug te mogen keren naar België. U kunt dit doen door een email te
sturen naar: importexport [mailto:[email protected]]. In de mail moet vermeld staan:

Nieuws vanuit de Stamboekcommissie:
Er komen van de leden regelmatig vragen richting onze commissie naar de mogelijkheid om
de gegevens van de resultaten van keuringen van andere organisaties in de AAB data van
ZooEasy te vermelden.
Het algemeen standpunt van onze commissie is dat het niet wenselijk is deze informatie
in de AAB data te vermelden, omdat de keuringscriteria niet volledig overeenkomen met onze
AAB keuringseisen. Dat betekent dan ook dat de AAB hiervoor geen verantwoordelijkheid
kan dragen en dat de gegevens niet in de AAB data zullen worden vermeld.
Het volledige relaas van de rundertuberculose(TB) vaststelling en verloop in België tot op
heden
Najaar 2015 hebben wij aan onze leden bekend gemaakt dat er post-mortem rundertuberculose werd
vastgesteld bij een alpaca die verbleef in België. Naar aanleiding hiervan zijn er een aantal regels in
onze vereniging aangepast en verstrengd. Ook vonden we het onze plicht deze ziekte en
samengaande risico’s toe te lichten tijdens onze algemene ledenvergadering 3 november ll.
Als er rundertuberculose wordt vastgesteld op een boerderij, neemt het onderzoeken hiervan een
aantal maanden in beslag en vandaar dat we ook niet verder naar jullie gecommuniceerd hebben om
de getroffen mensen de tijd te laten dit zelf te verwerken. Wij hebben nu de toestemming gekregen
van de fokker die deze import heeft gedaan om jullie het hele verhaal te brengen
Voorgeschiedenis
Einde december 2014 is er een groep jonge hobby hengsten geïmporteerd vanuit Engeland. Gelukkig
zijn deze bestemd voor eenzelfde klant, dus deze volledige groep is altijd samen, en afgezonderd van
de rest van de invoerder zijn kudde, in quarantaine gebleven voor een aantal weken vooraleer ze
geleverd werden bij de klant in februari 2015.
Vaststelling
Einde juli is er een van de jonge hengstjes gestorven. De eigenaren gaven aan dat hij een moeilijke
ademhaling had en sterk vermagerd was, ze lieten dan ook een autopsie uitvoeren om de
doodsoorzaak vast te stellen.
Hij had schade aan de longen en TB werd vastgesteld en bevestigd achteraf na de cultuur die er is
gedaan.
Tussenkomen FAVV-AFSCA bij de eigenaar
FAVV-AFSCA heeft alle dieren gecontroleerd via huidtest met achteraf de
IDEXX bloedtest en hier werden 2 dieren positief bevonden via bloedtest. De
eigenaar van de jonge hengsten stemde er mee in om al zijn dieren te laten
euthanaseren. Hij nam deze beslissing uit angst die hem door het FAVVAFSCA werd ingeboezemd en omdat zij dit adviseerde. Post-mortum werd er bij een enkel dier
beginnende TB schade vastgesteld, ze gaan ervan uit dat deze besmet was door de alpaca die er ook
aan overleden is. Alle andere dieren waren in goede gezondheid. Dus één dier is gestorven aan TB,
eentje was besmet en de 4 anderen waren gezond, en zijn spijtig genoeg nutteloos ingeslapen.
En dan de invoerder zijn kudde
Omwille van het feit dat hij deze dieren heeft ingevoerd voor zijn klant, werd ook zijn kudde
onderworpen aan een grondig onderzoek met zicht op TB. De gehele kudde is getest via skin test en
al de dieren werden negatief bevonden. Dit werd vervolgd door de bloedtest IDEXX, hier kwamen ze
ook goed uit op één na, deze werd lichtjes positief bevonden. Deze werd dan ook door het FAVVAFSCA geëuthanaseerd maar werd na de autopsie negatief bevonden! Om dit met zekerheid te
kunnen zeggen heeft het Coda – Cerva (labo) op 11 verscheidene manieren monsters genomen, i.p.v.
de gebruikelijke 2, en dit op 4 verschillende manieren (normaal 2) gedaan op alle organen. En na 8
weken cultuur was alles negatief. Dit is dan wat men noemt een vals positieve! Deze is dus spijtig
genoeg onterecht ingeslapen.
Alle andere dieren bij klanten van de kweker zijn ook onderworpen aan een strenge TB controle
uitgevoerd door het FAVV-AFSCA. Al deze dieren werden zowel getest via de huidtest als gevolgd
door de bloedtest IDEXX en zijn alle negatief bevonden tot op heden.
Wij hopen dat u nu een beter beeld heeft van wat er zich de afgelopen maanden heeft afgespeeld bij
de getroffen mensen. En wij danken hen ook graag voor het brengen van hun verhaal.

Le nouveau an est déjà d’ âgé un mois et avant et derrière les coulisses les volontaires travaillent dur
en abondance. De la part de la trésorière vous avez dans l’interval reçu votre contribution, la
commission du show et les teams de show sont actif avec l’organisation des shows à Hapert et
Hasselt, le rédaction travaille à le premier Alpaca Magazine, la commission consultative va se
pencher sur les reconnaissances et la commission du pedigree a organisé son premier atelier. Les
traductrices sont actif avec la traduction de la site web et les bulletins d’informations et le bureau fait
du travail pour améliorer la communication par rédigé une lettre de diffusion mensuelle, et celui-ci
est la première copie.
Le nombre de membres en janvier 2016 est en total 136. Dommage que 5 membres ont annulé son
adhésion, mais de l’autre côté 5 nouveaux membre a s’inscrit.

Des nouvelles de la commission du pedigree
il y a souvent des membres qui nous demandons si c’est possible de mettre les données des résultats
de contrôle fait par autres organisations dans les données de AAB ZooEasy. Le point de vue
général de notre commision est que c’est pas désirable de mettre cette information dans les
données de AAB parce que les critères de contrôle ne convient pas complétement avec nos
exigences de contrôle de AAB. Ça veut dire aussi que le AAB ne peut pas porter le responsabilité
pour cella et que les données ne sont pas mentionné dans les données de AAB.
Le récit complet du TB en Belgique, de la constatation jusque le présent
Automne 2015 nous avons promulgué à nos membres qu’il y a un alpaga mort causé par du TB en
Belgique. En réponse à cette nous avons changé et renforcé quelques règles dans notre organisation.
Aussi nous croyons que il est notre devoir de vous informer de cette maladie et les risques qui
viennent avec sur notre réunion général de membres 3 novembre dernier.
Si il y a constaté du TB chez quelqu’un, la recherche prend quelques mois et c’est la raison que nous
n’avons pas communiqué plus tôt avec vous. Nous voulons aussi bien donner les victimes le temps
pour placer tout ce qui est passé. Nous avons eu maintenant son permis de vous raconter l’histoire
complète.
L’antécédents
Fin décembre 2014 il y a été importé un groupe de jeunes hongres de l’Angleterre. Heureusement, ils
étaient tous destiné au même client, donc tout le groupe est resté ensemble, et séparé de notre
troupeau, en quarantaine quelques semaines et le groupe complet a été livré en février 2015.
La constatation
Fin juillet, un de ces jeunes mâles est mort. Puisqu’il avait une respiration
difficile et avait maigri beaucoup, les propriétaires l’ ont fait autopsier. Il avait
des lésions et la tuberculose bovine a été confirmée plus tard.
Intervenir de FAVV-AFSCA chez le propriétaire
Le propriétaire des jeunes hongres a accepté d’abattre tous ses alpagas parce
que le FAVV-AFSCA lui a fait peur et a conseillé de tous les euthanasier. Finalement, malgré 2 tests
de sang IDEXX positifs dans ce troupeau, il n’ y avait qu’ 1 seul autre alpaga qui avait des lésions
débutantes, probablement contaminé par le premier. Tous les autres étaient absolument sains..
Et puis notre propre troupeau
Parce que nous avons importé les animaux pour notre client, aussi notre troupeau était soumis à une
recherche approfondi avec point de vue le TB. Notre troupeau a été entièrement contrôlé avec une
tuberculination comparative et tous nos animaux étaient négatifs.
Ensuite, le test sérologique IDEXX a été utilisé et tous nos alpagas étaient négatifs sauf un seul qui a
été légèrement positif. Il a été abattu par le FAVV-AFSCA. Il n’avait aucune lésion.
Le Coda-Cerva a testé 11 (au lieu de 2!) différents prélèvements provenant de tous les organes, de 4
manières différentes (au lieu de 2), et après 8 semaines de culture, tout est négative. C’était donc un
faux positif.
Tous les animaux de nos clients sont actuellement testés par le FAVV-AFSCA. Toutes les
tuberculinations sont négatives et les résultats des premier tests sérologiques IDEXX sont négatifs
aussi.
Nous espérons que vous avez maintenant une plus bonne vue qu’est ce qui est passé chez les
victimes. Et nous voulons bien les remercier pour nous raconter son récit.

We are already a month into the new year and volunteers are busy both in front of and behind the
scenes. By now you should have received your subscription renewal from the treasurer, the show
commission and show teams are busy with the organisation of the forthcoming shows in Hapert and
Hasselt, the editors are working on the first Alpaca Magazine, the Advisory Commission is busying
itself with issues relating to the accreditation scheme, and the DNA and Registration Commission has
organised it’s first workshop. The translators are busy translating the website and newsletters, and
the Committee is working on improving communication by publishing a monthly newsletter, this
being the first one.
In 2016 we had 136 members. Unfortunately 5 members terminated their membership in January
2016, but in compensation 6 new members have joined the association.
If you have any questions relating to one or more of the articles in this newsletter, please do not
hesitate to contact the relevant commission. We hope that you enjoy reading this first newsletter of
2016.

Registration has opened for Junior Handler and for the buffet/dinner which will be held at NH
Koningshof on the 19th. March 2016. If you would like to participate you can register via: XXXXXX
Registration closes on the 15th. February 2016. Before you return your registration form, please
check that it is fully completed and that the information is correct. Please double check chip number,
date of shearing, prefix and animal name.
Participants from Belgium: It is your own responsibility to ask permission from FAVV to be able to
return to Belgium on the 20th. March. You can do this by sending an e-mail to: importexport
[mailto:[email protected]]. The e-mail must contain the following information:

An official will be present at the show to check the animals and stamp the export document for the
return trip to Belgium.

News from the DNA and Registration Commission:
We are regularly asked by members if it is possible to incorporate the screening results from other
associations in the AAB ZooEasy database.
We, the DNA and Registration Commission, do not think that it is correct that this information be
incorporated in the AAB database, because the criteria used to judge animals by other associations
are not exactly the same as those of the AAB. Also, the AAB cannot take responsibility for the
screening results from other associations. Therefore, these results will not be included in the AAB
database.
Diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis (bTb) in an alpaca in Belgium: the full story.
In the autumn of 2015 we informed our members of the post-mortem confirmation of bTb in an alpaca
in Belgium. As a result, various rules have since been implemented by the association. Also, at the
AGM on 3 November 2015 we felt it necessary to discuss bTb and the risks associated with the
disease.
If bTb is diagnosed on a farm, the various testing procedures that then follow take several months to
complete. For this reason, and in order to give the people involved the time to take stock of the
situation, no further information has been released until now. The breeder who imported the affected
animal has now given us permission to report the story.
History
At the end of December 2014 a group of young male alpacas were imported to Belgium from England
by a breeder for a client. Luckily, all the animals in the group were for this one client, so the group has
always remained intact. On arrival, they were kept apart from the importer’s herd and were kept in
quarantine for some weeks before being delivered to the client in February 2015.
Diagnosis
At the end of July one of the imported animals died. The owners said that the alpaca had had difficulty
breathing and that he had lost a lot of weight, so they asked that a post-mortem be carried out in order
to determine the cause of death.
At post-mortem lesions in the lungs were found and btB was diagnosed. After
culture this diagnosis was confirmed.
Intervention of FAVV-AFSCA at the owner’s property
The imported alpacas belonging to the owner of the dead alpaca were
subjected to testing at the instigation of FAVV-AFSCA. First a skin-test was carried out, which was
later followed by the IDEXX blood test. Two animals tested positive to the blood test. The owner
agreed to have all his alpacas put down, a decision that he made out of fear of what could further
happen as a result of the advice and information he had received from FAVV-AFSCA. At post-mortem
only one animal showed signs of tuberculosis, and it is assumed that this animal was infected by the
alpaca that had died. All the other alpacas were healthy. So, one alpaca had died of bTb, one was
infected, and the four others were healthy and were, therefore, unnecessarily put down.
And the importer’s herd?
Despite the fact that the imported animals were for his client, the importer’s herd too were subjected to
a thorough investigation. The whole herd were tested by the intradermal tuberculin test (skin test) and
all tested negative. This test was then followed by the IDEXX blood test. All animals tested negative to
this test too, except for one that was found to be slightly positive. This animal was euthanized by
FAVV-ASCA, but was later, after post-mortem, found to be negative for bTb! To be totally sure of the
results the laboratory Coda-Cerva took 11 different samples (instead of the usual 2), and 4 different
samples(normally only 2 are taken) from all organs. After the samples had been cultured for 8 weeks
they were all found to be negative. So, the original blood test was what is known as a ‘false positive’.
This means that the animal was put down for no reason.
All the other animals belonging the importer’s client were also subjected to strict bTb controls which
were carried out by FAVV-AFSCA. All were tested by the skin test and then the IDEXX blood test, and
all have so far tested negative.
