Falke Pisano’s lecture-performances, text-based video’s, objects and photocopied publications are the elements of a body of work
that is distinctly induced by a practice of writing. Although mainly text-based, Pisano’s work displays a strong concern with the
existence and features of concrete objects, and in particular abstract concrete objects. Using language as a means to re-think the
potential of abstraction, sculpture and artistic practice she activates the abstract sculpture as a thought-generating principle and
employs the idea of the unstable transforming and disintegrating object as a way to address issues concerning object-qualities,
form, construction and engagement.
For her first solo show at Balice Hertling Pisano enters into a new dialogue through pieces especially conceived for the space:
inspired by the design pioneer Eileen Gray, Pisano presents two sculptures that ambiguously relate the history of Gray’s Villa
E-1027 at Roquebrune Cap Martin with the construction and deconstruction of abstract objects.
In line with this, Pisano introduces three videos that question the relationship between an abstract object and the viewer. In these
text-based videos, projected on one of the sculptures, Pisano analyzes the act of perception by showing herself as both the
constructing artist and the contextualizing observer. The show also features collages of forms combined with texts and images of
the artist’s studio, displaying Pisano’s interest in sharing with the public unrealized projects while negating the “failure” that is involved
with the abandonment of a project.
Falke Pisano is currently a resident at Villa Arson in Nice and her work has been shown at the Lewis Gluckman Gallery in Cork,
Lisson gallery in London, Kunstlerhaus, Stuttgart, Stedelijk Museum and De Appel in Amsterdam. She recently had a solo show
at Ellen de Bruijne Projects. Upcoming shows include a collaborative show with Benoît Maire at Croy Nielsen, Berlin and a
performance at The Berlin Biennale.

Les performances vidéo de Falke Pisano se bâtissent sur des textes, des objets ainsi que des publications photocopiées qui
constituent le corps même d'une œuvre inspirée par l'acte d'écriture. Bien que principalement textuel, le travail de Pisano relève
avant tout d'un profond attachement à l'existence des objets concrets et à leurs fonctions, plus particulièrement en ce
qui concerne les objets concrètement abstraits.
Le recours au langage traduit chez Pisano une volonté de repenser l'abstraction, la sculpture et plus généralement le potentiel
de la pratique artistique. En cela Pisano fait de la sculpture abstraite un principe de pensée active et emploie des objets instables,
en mutation ou en désintégration, renvoyant les choses à leurs qualités descriptives, leur forme, leur construction et leurs utilisations.
Pour sa première exposition solo organisée par Balice Hertling, Pisano pénètre un nouveau dialogue au travers d'éléments
spécialement conçus pour l'espace et inspirés de la pionnière du design, Eileen Gray. Deux des sculptures présentées retracent
de façon assez ambiguë l'histoire de la Villa E-1027 d'Eileen Gray à Roquebrune Cap Martin, par le jeu de la construction et de
la déconstruction des objets abstraits.
Pisano décline d'ailleurs ce thème sur trois films qui questionnent la relation entre le spectateur et l'objet abstrait. Grâce à des
diffusions vidéos inspirées de textes épars et projetées sur une des sculptures, Pisano construit et analyse la perception
et l'engagement liés à la rencontre avec un objet, envisageant l'artiste comme producteur d'un travail et le spectateur comme
décodeur de l'œuvre, décrypteur du message.
L'exposition inclut aussi des collages, composés de formes, de textes et d'images du studio de l'artiste: Pisano entend partager
avec le public ses projets non réalisés et nie l'idée que l'abandon serait assimilable à un échec.
Falke Pisano est actuellement résidente à la Villa Arson de Nice. Son travail a été exposé à la Lewis Gluckman gallery de Cork,
à la Lisson gallery de Londres, à la Kunstlerhaus de Stuttgart, au Stedelijk Museum et chez De Appel à Amsterdam. Elle a récemment
exposé chez Ellen de Bruijne. Les projets à venir incluent une collaboration avec Benoît Maire chez Croy Nielsen (Berlin) ainsi
qu' une performance à la biennale de Berlin.
