Kris Poduska is an experimental condensed matter physicist based at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where she
has been on the faculty in the Department of Physics & Physical Oceanography since 2003. Originally from the United
States, Dr. Poduska holds an undergraduate degree in physics from Carleton College (Northfield, Minnesota, USA), and a
Ph.D. in physics from Cornell University. Her research is a blend between physics and chemistry, focusing on
understanding structural and physical property relations in inorganic materials. The applications of the work span from
technologically relevant semiconductors, to medically interesting biomaterials, to ancient archaeological materials. In
2009, Dr. Poduska received a Petro Canada Young Innovator Award for these research efforts, and has been a visiting
scientist at the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel). She has both supervised and taught students with backgrounds in
physics, chemistry, engineering and archaeology spanning from high-school age to the post-doctoral level. Dr. Poduska
has been a member of CAP since 2003, a Friend of CAP since 2007, and was a plenary speaker at the 2011 CanadaAmerica-Mexico Physics Graduate Student Conference. She has also been an Executive Committee Member-at-large for
Canadian Section of the Electrochemical Society since 2009, and joined the Editorial Board of the Journal of Materials
Science: Materials in Electronics in 2014. Dr. Poduska is also active in teaching and promoting science. She has both
participated in and helped to organize the Canadian Association of Physicists Congress Teach Workshop, has given
interviews for CBC radio's Quirks and Quarks as well as BBC radio's Naked Scientists, and has been involved with
Women in Science and Engineering. Dr. Poduska has also served as a mentor for a student-led initiative in scientific
entrepreneurship at Memorial University, MUNtech.

Originaire des États-Unis, la Dre Poduska détient un diplôme de premier cycle en physique du Carleton College
(Northfield, Minnesota, É. U.) et un doctorat en physique de l’Université Cornell. Ses recherches s’étendent à la fois à la
physique et à la chimie, en particulier à la compréhension des relations entre les propriétés structurelles et physiques des
matières inorganiques. Ses travaux trouvent des applications tant dans les semi-conducteurs d’application technologique
que dans les biomatériaux revêtant un intérêt médical et les matériaux archéologiques anciens. En 2009, Petro-Canada
décerne un prix des jeunes innovateurs pour ces travaux de recherche à Mme Poduska, chercheuse invitée à l’Institut
des sciences Weizmann (Israël). Elle enseigne à des étudiants spécialisés en physique, chimie, génie et archéologie, du
niveau secondaire à celui des études postdoctorales, étudiants qu’elle supervise aussi. Mme Poduska est membre de
l’ACP depuis 2003, Amie de l’ACP depuis 2007 et elle fera une communication en séance plénière à la Conférence
d’étudiants diplômés de physique de 2011 Canada-États-Unis-Mexique. Elle est aussi membre à titre personnel du comité
exécutif de la section canadienne de l’Electrochemical Society depuis 2009 et se joint en 2014 au comité de rédaction du
Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Electronics. La Dre Poduska est également active à enseigner et à promouvoir
la science. Elle participera à l’atelier pour enseignantes et enseignants, qu’elle aidera à organiser, au congrès de
l’Association canadienne des physiciens et physiciennes, et elle donnera des entrevues aux émissions radiophoniques de
la CBC Quirks and Quarks et Naked Scientists. Elle s’occupera de Femmes en science et en génie. La Dre Poduska sera
aussi mentor pour un projet mené par les étudiants en entrepreneuriat scientifique à l’Université Memorial, MUNtech.
