La rose ‘Saint Galmier’ a été baptisée en Juin
2004 (obtenteur André Eve), parrainée par
Jean-Marie Pelt. C’est une rose blanche toute
simple, aux étamines jaunes. Sa floraison en
juin est une profusion de gouttelettes blanches
qui pétillent sur un feuillage vert brillant,
ensuite elle se couvre d’une multitude de
fruits rouges, un délice pour les yeux, un régal
pour les oiseaux.

Saint-Galmier has been the site of the local branch of "Roses Anciennes
en France" since 2009. The “Association Roses Anciennes en France,
created in 1995, works for the protection of Old Roses, a
fragile and little known plant heritage”.

The ‘Saint Galmier’ Rose was christened in June 2004 (breeder André
Eve) under the patronage of Jean-Marie Pelt. It is a simple white rose,
with yellow stamens. It blooms in June in a profusion of white droplets
glimmering on the bright green foliage, and then becomes covered
with a multitude of red hips, a delight for the eyes, a treat for the birds.

A Collection of Heritage
and Modern Roses and Viburnum
One of the 100 Most Beautiful Detours in France
Saint-Galmier (6,000 inhabitants) situated between Saint-Etienne
and Lyons, dominates the River Loire, which gave its name to the
Department. This ancient village, perched on the hill, is crowned by
a 15th century Gothic church. Its many floral gardens, its park with its
hundred-year-old trees and its Rose collection created in 2000 and
maintained with the greatest respect for the environment, have
earned it the national classification ‘4 Fleurs’. A refreshing
stopover is a must at the kiosk of the Badoit spring, a
source of sparkling mineral water since Roman times.
Saint-Galmier is a town of creators and is the home
of many artists and craftsmen.

At the foot of the village of Saint-Galmier, in a natural environment on the banks of the river Coise, the Municipal Rose
Garden, covering an area of 7,000 square meters, is home
to more than 300 varieties of roses and a collection of Viburnum. All the plants are identified with botanical labels.
Au pied du village de Saint-Galmier, dans un environnement naturel en bord de Coise, sur un espace de 7000 m2, la Roseraie municipale abrite plus de 300 variétés de rosiers, des plantes vivaces et
une collection de Viburnum. Tous les végétaux sont identifiés par
des étiquettes botaniques.
