In terms of difficulty, only Steven's F is likely to cause headaches and even then the determined solver would sooner or later twig where the black king gets mated, whereupon the moves follow almost automatically. Abdelaziz dedicates his E to his friend Jean Marc Loustau. In a helpmate, Black plays first and helps White to mate Black in the stipulated number of moves. In Michael's D there is a twin position, where switching the diagram positions of black king and white rook yields a new helpmate for solving. Abdelaziz's E has a simpler twin, just a small shift of the white pawn h3 to g4 providing a second helpmate with a strong thematic relationship to its sibling. The BCM Composing Championship accepts entries from individual composers of any problem genre, excluding "fairy" pieces or boards, or conditions too complex to explain in our restricted space. All entries will be rated out of a maximum ten points by the judge, Hans Gruber (Germany). The composer's score and rank in the Championship will then be determined by the total of his/her two best works. A bonus is the fact that the mates are models, i.e. the squares in the mated king's field are guarded or blocked just once - except when there is a pinned piece as here - and all white pieces, with the permissible Copyright © Maroc-Echecs Page 2/3 Problems made in England exception of king and pawns, are used for the mate. » British Chess Magazine April 2007 Solutions Abdelaziz ONKOUD The Problemist Mai 2007 <img src='IMG/jpg/maypro.jpg' width="264" height="264" alt="" /> h!3 (5+5) 1.Cé4 F×d6 2.Rd4 Tç3 3.Fd5 Fé5! 1.Fb3 T×d6+ 2.Rç4 Fç3 3.Cd5 Tç6!
