
The names of days and months don't have
capital letters in French unless they begin a
sentence.

We often use the term “night” for evening. In
French this is often “le soir”
lundi soir = Monday evening and Monday night

The word “on” isn't used in French!
lundi matin = On Monday morning
mardi après midi = On Tuesday afternoon
mercredi soir = On Wednesday evening / night

CULTURE VULTURE SAYS:
 Public buildings and monuments are often shut on a
Monday or a Tuesday. Always go on line and check when
you plan your holiday.
 Shops often don't open on a Monday. There is no Sunday
trading in France. You may find a little boulangerie open
but not much else. Restaurants will open for lunch on
Sundays, but will close after that.
 In the past, schools used to shut on Wednesdays or
Thursdays according to the region but Saturdays were a
school day. Recent laws have changed school days to
Monday - Friday.
 Mondays are often public holidays eg. Easter weekend,
Pentecost weekend. Good Friday is not a public holiday in
France. Ascension Thursday is celebrated as a public
holiday.
