We expect students progressing into Year 13 at the Plume College to complete a transition piece of work for each subject
between June and the start of September 2016. This is assessed and feedback given to students when they start the courses in
September. The following challenge(s) are to be completed over summer and brought to your first lesson in September 2016.
TASK 1
• Les films: Regardez Amélie Poulain en français Watch Amélie Poulain in French
• Lisez des exemples des résumés et des critiques de ce film en français sur allocine.fr et d’autres sites Read examples of film
critiques / summaries online at allocine.fr about this film
• Utilisez ces résumés / ces critiques comme des exemples pour écrire votre propre résumé / critique du film Use these
summaries / critiques as a guideline to write your own synopsis/ critique for the film you have watched, include reasons why
you liked it and best / worst part.
• Regardez les autres films du directeur Jean-Pierre Jeunet - Delicatessen, The City of the Lost Children, A very long
Engagement, Micmac, TS Spivet et lisez et prenez des notes en anglais à propos de ces techniques, ces influences, les
thèmes de ces films et son succès dans le monde - Watch the other films of Jean-Pierre Jeunet and read and make notes
about the techniques he uses, his influences, the themes of his films, his international success in the world.
• Choisissez d’autres film à regarder de la liste donnée ou trouvez en un vous-même – Choose other films to watch from the
attached list or find some yourself
TASK 2
• Les infos: Lisez les infos pendant l’été et choisissez un article qui vous intéressent Read the news over the summer and
choose two articles, one on the topic of environment and one on the topic of immigration that have interested you (Voir la
liste des sites à regarder – Download Apps – French radio stations / 1 jour 1 actu)
• Dans l’article – soulignez tous les verbes, les adjectifs et les mots clés puis créez une activité à compléter E.g. V/F/ND,
Questions en anglais, remplissez les blancs… In the article, underline all the verbs, adjectives and key words, then create a
reading activity for each text.
TASK 3 Paris:
• Trouvez deux articles qui parlent de la ville de Paris et résumez en anglais – Find two articles which talk about the city of
Paris and summarise in bullet points in English the key points – consider articles on environment, economy, employment,
industries, tourism, immigration, and population.
• Créez un petit dossier à propos de Paris comprenant des informations clés à propos de l’environnement, l’économie,
l’emploi, les industries, le tourisme, l’immigration et la population. Create a fact-file about Paris in French including any key
statistics or points e.g. environment, economy, employment, industries, tourism, immigration and population.
TASK 4: Ecoute et Lecture
• Lisez et complétez les activités dans le dossier Lecture – Read and complete activities in the Reading booklet (Please collect
from MFL office)
• Choisissez des articles A2 et complétez des exercices d’écoute avec ce site (4 activités) – Use the following website to
complete at least 4 Listening activities related to your A2 course http://savoirs.rfi.fr/fr/apprendre-enseigner/languefrancaise/journal-en-francais-facile - print or print screen the completed activities (different levels available)
TASK 5:
• Grammaire
• Révisez les cinq temps français les plus importants – le présent, le futur, le passé, l’imparfait, le conditionnel Revise the 5
most important French tenses and apply in context – completing exercises through different French grammar websites (print
or print screen some exercises completed) or invest in an A-level French grammar exercise book.
• Apprenez par cœur les verbes irréguliers au présent, passé et futur et Apprenez les infinitifs
• Learn off by heart the irregular verbs in the present, past participles and future stems (Create flashcards, mind maps… for
these. Learn the infinitive verbs. (Please see O drive)
TASK 6:
• Vocabulaire
• Révisez le vocabulaire de A2
• Revisez le vocabulaire pour A2 – environnement et immigration – Revise, review and make flashcards / mind maps for
revision for key vocabulary for environment and immigration. (Please see O drive)
How the work produced will fit into subsequent work and the specification as a whole.
The work produced will give students an insight into some of the different topics (i.e. Immigration, Environment, Poverty and Global
Issues, Crime, and Scientific Advances) that will be covered in Year 13 and particularly prepare them via some background research
for the Cultural topics on the director Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Paris. Students will also practice exam techniques on varied Listening
and Reading texts covering the topics for A2.
How the work should be presented.
The work should be presented in word documents, or hand written.
Length of time expected to complete the challenge:30 minutes per task.
How the work will be assessed and marked:The work produced both written and spoken will be assessed according to use of grammar, accuracy, varied tenses, range of
language and vocabulary used including pronunciation and intonation.
Success criteria for this challenge:• Benchmark skills – reviewing and developing those skills essential for a good transition from AS-A2.
•
Cultural immersion – important for students to develop a wider knowledge of the French language and culture but in
particular for their Cultural Topics.
•
Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, Grammar – all skills to be developed, reviewed and addressed in authentic tasks –
essential for students to maintain their skill base in these areas and increase their knowledge of the French speaking world.

Students can refer to Grade Boundaries in accompanying document when completing writing and speaking tasks and begin
to grasp transition from AS criteria to A level criteria.

Translation: Choisissez quatres articles authentiques et traduisez-les Choose four authentic articles, two in French and two in English
on the topic areas of A2 French and choose a section of the articles to translate into English from French and into French from
English. Highlight any key structures / tenses you have needed to look up in order to complete the translations.
