Making a welcome return to the CDF, The 605 Collective brings their west coast groove back to Ottawa with
the full evening work Inheritor Album. The super physicality of their movement is virtuosic and precise,
extreme in its execution and urban at its very core. At the end of a 605 performance I always feel a bit like I’ve
been standing still - my whole life.
The collective, Lisa Gelley, Shay Kuebler and Josh Martin – named for a small live/work studio (apartment
#605) in East Vancouver in case you were wondering – are part of an exciting new generation of dance
makers. Fusing influences of street dance, hip hop and martial arts into a modern dance context they are
creating a new extremely physical world. With 605 there is no doubt at all that dancing is a verb.
The 605 Collective fait un retour qui est le bienvenu au FDC. La compagnie ramène à Ottawa ses rythmes de la
côte Ouest avec la pièce Inheritor Album, présentée en version intégrale. L’extraordinaire physicalité des
mouvements athlétiques des danseurs, avec une exécution précise et extrême, est urbaine dans son essence
même. À la fin d’un spectacle de 605, j’ai un peu l’impression d’être restée debout et immobile toute mon
existence!
Le collectif, soit Lisa Gelley, Shay Kuebler et Josh Martin, a emprunté son nom au numéro d’un petit studio
(appartement 605), à la fois lieu de vie et de travail, situé dans l’est de Vancouver. La compagnie fait partie
d’une nouvelle génération passionnante de créateurs. Elle conjugue danse de rue, hip-hop et arts martiaux
pour inventer un univers de mouvement extrêmement physique. Avec The 605 Collective, il ne fait aucun doute
que le mot « danser » est un verbe.
