FRI. 30 SEP Afrika Handmade Symposium and Gallery is a market development initiative of Craft Afrika. The event’s objective is to identify and nurture domestic demand for locally produced home decor and home textile products. One of the biggest challenges that faces the artisan and design sector in Kenya is the inability to successfully tap into the domestic market either due to the unflattering perception of the sector as the purveyor of cheap, mass produced, low quality souvenirs and curios, or scant knowledge of the evolution that has taken place in the sector, or perhaps a narrow and weak distribution network comprising a handful of craft fairs and retail stores. Afrika Handmade Gallery recognizes the need to re-position the sector through a highly curated and niche showcase offering a fresh perspective where the exhibitors only exhibit never seen before products, and the potential consumers experience a contemporary genre of artisan and design products that are trendy, available and affordable The 3rd edition exhibiting partners include: TwobyFour, Anselm Kitengela Glass, Quinn Peaks, Seedling Kenya, Uganda Crafts, Byentaro Ceramics, Tribal Gallery, Fired Earth, Esprit Ethnique, Simply Sandara, One Off Gallery, La Palette, Elementaita Weavers, Décor Interiors, High Street Kenya, Kasigau Weavers and Concepts & Details.
