TOGETHER IN PEACE
YOUTH DECLARATION
Brussels, 15 March 2015
[NEDERLANDS] Wij, mannen en vrouwen van verschillende religies en levensbeschouwingen, zijn
vanmiddag samen door de straten van Brussel gestapt. Wij hebben halt gehouden voor
ontmoetingsplaatsen die het pluralisme van onze samenleving duidelijk maken. We hebben in
respect geluisterd naar de hoogste vertegenwoordigers van de islam, het christendom, het vrijzinnig
humanisme en het jodendom in ons land.
Het is de eerste keer dat dit op deze schaal gebeurt in België. Dat is een belangrijk symbool. Aan de
rand van Europa heersen hoe langer hoe meer chaos en geweld. Dat heeft zijn repercussies in onze
samenleving. De strategie van de terreur wil angst zaaien. Ze wil bevolkingsgroepen tegen elkaar
opzetten.
[ENGLISH] Today we want to say clearly, here, at the heart of Europe: we do not want to surrender to
this strategy of terror.
With conviction, we say YES to living together in peace, YES to freedom of expression, conscience and
religion. We say YES to respect for every human being, regardless of his or her philosophical or
religious convictions. Only freedom and mutual respect make for a free and democratic society. We
want to work on it.
As youth from a new generation, the generation of globalisation, we want to work for peaceful
coexistence in Europe, where there is no place for any form of racism or exclusion whatsoever.
[FRANÇAIS] Nous disons aux jeunes de notre génération : ne soyez pas pessimistes ! N’écoutez pas
les sirènes de la peur et de la violence ! La violence peut être arrêtée. Celui qui utilise la violence
discrédite sa propre cause.
Aujourd’hui, nous voulons prendre au sérieux la responsabilité de construire la paix. Le 21e siècle a
besoin d’une nouvelle forme d’humanisme : un humanisme construit par les croyants et les laïques.
C’est possible par la rencontre de l’autre et le dialogue respectueux.
Aujourd’hui, nous avons fait un pas important vers ce nouvel avenir. Un avenir où nous vivons
ensemble en paix. Dans la liberté et le respect.
