BRUCE BRUBAKER
GLASS PIANO (VERSIONS)

“Remix culture, post-production art is the art of now. Artists today are making pathways
through what came before. More and more I see what I do in this way. I'm starting from notes
written on paper by Philip (Glass). But music is a group activity, and a transaction. This
music only exists as it does because it was written, then made into sound by me, and heard
by listeners. The people hearing it complete the art.” Bruce Brubaker
Fans may be familiar with the concept of the
remix in the electronic music realm - where
one artist reimagines a song in their vision
based on the foundation set previously by the
original artist - but the art of the remix has
long existed in the classical world as well.
New-York-City-pianist Bruce Brubaker's
career demonstrates this concept -- Brubaker
not only masters the art of replaying subtle,
intricate compositions, but in making the
physical sounds of music, uniquely brings it to
life in every performance.
Bruce Brubaker´s debut collaboration with
InFiné Glass Piano brings together a sublime
collection of solo piano interpretations of
Philip Glass pieces. With that said, InFiné
wanted to pursue the process initiated by
Bruce Brubaker and invited artists from various generations and from various scenes to
“bring their own consciousness” to the pieces brought together on Glass Piano.
The EP begins with InFiné´s youngest protégé, Julian Earle. The 18 year old American
producer crafts an emotive remix of “Mad Rush”, a melodic house rendition that’s reminiscent
of Nicolas Jaar. Minimal House hero Akufen surprisingly opts for a more smokey, jazz-laced
affair which transitions nicely into Delsin´s Detroit beatwiser John Beltran’s aptly titled
“Tangerine Sunset Mix”.
Biblo takes things to a darker direction with her interpretation, charting techno and ambient
territory with a sweet yet haunting vocal. The fifth remix was recorded in Detroit by
Francesco Tristano in Carl Craig´s Planet E studio. Tristano was a student of Bruce
Brubaker at the Julliard School in New York, Tristano was a student of Bruce Brubaker at the Julliard
School in New York, he was also the first artist to release on InFiné and they also
occasionally play together.
The final remix comes from legendary Warp records duo Plaid, who stamp “Metamorphosis
5” with their signature electronica sound and added hip-hop swing.
