« Je suis très heureuse de répondre à l'invitation du Festival de Marrakech pour présider
cette quatorzième édition. Je serai ravie à cette occasion d'aller à la rencontre du public
marocain, de partager sa curiosité, son enthousiasme et sa soif de découvrir des
cinématographies du monde entier comme les sélections précédentes nous en ont donné
l'occasion. »

Moroccan audiences, and sharing their curiosity, enthusiasm and thirst to discover films
from around the world – the way the festival has in its previous selections. »
Isabelle Huppert est révélée au grand public avec LA DENTELLIÈRE de Claude Goretta. Prix
d'interprétation à Cannes pour son rôle dans VIOLETTE NOZIÈRE de Claude Chabrol, elle
tourne dès lors avec les cinéastes les plus exigeants en France (Jean-Luc Godard, Maurice
Pialat, Benoit Jacquot) comme à l’étranger (Michael Cimino, Andrzej Wajda, Marco Ferreri,
Joseph Losey). Elle mène en parallèle une carrière impressionnante sur les planches, sous la
direction des metteurs en scène les plus réputés (Peter Zadek, Claude Régy, Bob Wilson,
Jacques Lassalle, Krzystof Warlikowski, Luc Bondy…). Indissociable de l’œuvre de Claude
Chabrol, qui lui a offert quelques-uns de ses plus beaux rôles, elle entretient également une
relation particulière avec Michael Haneke qui lui offre, avec LA PIANISTE, son second Prix
d’interprétation à Cannes. Une exposition intitulée « La Femme aux portraits », montrée
d’abord au MoMA de New-York, puis à Paris, Berlin, Turin, Séoul, Tokyo et dans le monde
entier, donne à voir des portraits d’elle réalisés par les plus grands photographes (CartierBresson, Nan Goldin, Robert Doisneau, Helmut Newton…). Tout en tournant avec des
cinéastes confirmés (Jacques Doillon, Olivier Assayas, Patrice Chéreau) ou prometteurs
(Joachim Lafosse, Ursula Meier), Isabelle Huppert travaille également avec des réalisateurs
asiatiques tels que Rithy Panh (UN BARRAGE CONTRE LE PACIFIQUE), Brillante Ma. Mendoza
(CAPTIVE) ou Hong Sangsoo (IN ANOTHER COUNTRY). Elle a présidé le Jury du Festival de
Cannes en 2009. Plus récemment, elle a tourné avec Marco Bellocchio (LA BELLE
ENDORMIE). Elle continue d’alterner les genres, passant de la comédie (HUIT FEMMES de
François Ozon, TIP TOP de Serge Bozon, COPACABANA et LA RITOURNELLE de Marc Fitoussi)
au film en costumes (LA RELIGIEUSE de Guillaume Nicloux). On la verra bientôt à l’affiche de
THE VALLEY OF LOVE de Guillaume Nicloux avec Gérard Depardieu et LOUDER THAN BOMBS
de Joachim Trier, aux côtés de Jesse Eisenberg et Gabriel Byrne.
Isabelle Huppert broke through with her performance in THE LACEMAKER by Claude Goretta
(1977). She won the Best Actress award in Cannes for her lead role in Claude Chabrol’s
VIOLETTE, and has since worked with many of France’s most exacting filmmakers like JeanLuc Godard, Maurice Pialat and Benoit Jacquot, as well as with some of the most acclaimed
international directors such as Michael Cimino, Andrzej Wajda, Marco Ferreri and Joseph
Losey. In parallel, she has led an impressive stage career, working for renowned directors
including Peter Zadek, Claude Régy, Bob Wilson, Jacques Lassalle, Krzystof Warlikowski and
Luc Bondy. Isabelle Huppert will always be associated with the work of Chabrol, who
provided her with some of her best roles. She also has a special relationship with Michael
Haneke, whose film THE PIANO TEACHER won her a second Best Actress gong in Cannes. An
exhibition entitled “Woman of Many Faces”, which was first held at the MoMA in New York
before traveling to other locations including Paris, Berlin, Turin, Seoul and Tokyo, displayed a
range of portraits of her by some of the world’s most famous photographers, including
Cartier-Bresson, Nan Goldin, Robert Doisneau and Helmut Newton.
Isabelle Huppert works with both established directors like Jacques Doillon, Olivier Assayas
and Patrice Chéreau and upcoming talents such as Joachim Lafosse and Ursula Meier, and
has also worked with many Asian filmmakers including Rithy Panh (UN BARRAGE CONTRE LE
PACIFIQUE), Brillante Mendoza (CAPTIVE) and Hong Sangsoo (IN ANOTHER COUNTRY). She
was Jury President at the Festival de Cannes in 2009. More recently, she filmed with Marco
Bellocchio (LA BELLE ENDORMIE). She continually switches genre, going from comedy (8
WOMEN by François Ozon, TIP TOP by Serge Bozon, COPACABANA and LA RITOURNELLE by
Marc Fitoussi) to costume dramas like LA RELIGIEUSE by Guillaume Nicloux. Her forthcoming
appearances include THE VALLEY OF LOVE by Nicloux, alongside Gérard Depardieu, and
LOUDER THAN BOMBS by Joachim Trier, with Jesse Eisenberg and Gabriel Byrne.
