MEDIA CENTER REFRESHER JOB AID JULY 8, 2008 Target Audience All Xbox Tier 1 Hardware Agents and Support Staff Introduction This Job Aid is geared towards providing agents with a better understanding of how to support Media Center issues. Troubleshooting steps and tips are also included as a guide. What’s Important It is still a necessity to follow steps provided in VKB. Use this as an additional resource for supporting Media Center issues only. What You Need to Know Two types of connecting Xbox console to a Computer PC Connect / Media Connect Media Center Common Issues for Media Center PC Selected Failed – The console is unable to establish a connection to the computer; usually caused by settings/software (firewall, Antivirus) preventing the computer from allowing a connection to the console PC configuration error – The console is able to identify the computer through the network however is unable to properly use a working connection due to incorrect/incomplete settings on the computer IP Address Failed- The console is unable to establish its IP address on the network; does not necessarily have anything to do with the computer (when connecting through a router); but will come out when trying a direct connection from console to computer since there is no DHCP server (router) resolving the IP address for both the console and computer When streaming form pc to console it freezes Extender not found – An existing media center connection cannot establish a connection to the registered/recognized Media Center PC possibly due to network or configuration problems NOTE: Follow these steps to verify OS and to check for .net framework: Type ‘winver’ on the run box to obtain the windows version and ‘appwiz.cpl’ to pull up the list of installed programs to verify .net framework installation Connecting Xbox Console using PC Connect or Media Connection 1.
