Limited Warranty
United States and Canada
Oki Data Americas, Inc. (Oki Data) warrants this OKIFAX to be
free from defect in material and workmanship and will remedy
any such defect according to the terms of this Limited Warranty.
This Limited Warranty extends to the original purchaser only and
does not extend to consumable items.
Oki Data will, for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of
purchase, repair (or replace at its option) on site at the original
purchaser’s facility and without charge any defective
component(s) of the OKIFAX, provided that this warranty
service is performed by an authorized OKIFAX service center or
authorized third-party service organization. From expiration of
the ninety (90) day parts and labor warranty until one (1) year
from the date of purchase (five [5] years in the case of the LED
imaging array), Oki Data will provide replacements for defective
components at no charge provided that this warranty service is
performed at an authorized OKIFAX service center or authorized
third-party service organization.
To make request or claim for service under the ninety (90) day
parts and labor coverage of this Limited Warranty, contact your
OKIFAX Authorized Dealer, authorized third-party service
provider, or Oki Data.
To make request or claim for service under the parts-only portion
of this Limited Warranty the original purchaser must return the
Oki Data product, shipping prepaid, in the original shipping
container or equivalent, to Oki Data or an authorized OKIFAX
service center and assume the risk of loss or damage in transit. A
written receipt for the product, showing the date of purchase,
dealer’s name, and serial number of the OKIFAX facsimile
machine, must accompany any request or claim for work to be
performed under this Limited Warranty.
This Limited Warranty shall not apply if the product has been
damaged due to abuse, misuse, misapplication, accident, or as a
result of service or modification by any other than an authorized
OKIFAX service center.
THERE ARE NO EXPRESS WARRANTIES OTHER THAN
THOSE ON THE FACE HEREOF AND DESCRIBED ABOVE.
NO WARRANTIES WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED,
INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED
WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR
A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, SHALL EXTEND BEYOND THE
RESPECTIVE WARRANTY PERIOD DESCRIBED ABOVE.
Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied
warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.
OKI DATA SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE
FOR ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL
DAMAGES OR LOSS ARISING FROM THE USE OF THIS
PRODUCT. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation
of incidental or consequential damages, so the above exclusion
may not apply to you.

whom the product was purchased, by contacting Oki Data

This Limited Warranty applies to all OKIFAX. However, the
procedure for obtaining service may vary outside the continental
United States. Contact your OKIFAX dealer for such warranty
service information.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also
have other rights which vary from state to state.
Limited Warranty
Latin America
Oki Data warrants this fax unit (hereinafter Product) to be free in
defect in material and workmanship and will remedy any such
defect according to the terms of this Limited Warranty. This
Limited Warranty does not extend to consumable items,
including but not limited to toner cartridges, fuses, etc.
Oki Data will repair (or at its option replace) at no charge, any
defective component(s) of the Product for one (1) year from the
date of purchase except for the printhead (LED imaging array),
which is warranted for a period of five (5) years from date of
purchase. This Limited Warranty extends to the original purchaser only.
To make a request or claim for service under this Limited
Warranty the original purchaser must return the Oki Data Product
to Oki Data or an authorized Oki Data service center within the
country purchased. The purchaser returning the Product for
repair must pay for all transportation charges to the repair center.
A written receipt for the Product, showing the date of purchase,
dealer’s name, and both the model and serial numbers of the Oki
Data Product must accompany any request or claim for work to
be performed under this Limited Warranty.
This shall not apply if the Product has been damaged due to
abuse, misuse, misapplication, accident, or as a result of service
or modification by any other than an authorized Oki Data service
center.

Installation Hints
• Install your fax unit in a dust-free location away from
direct sunlight.
• Do not plug your fax unit into a power source shared
by equipment which produces electrical noise (i.e., air
conditioners, etc.).
• Leave electronic adjustments to authorized service
personnel.

The LINE terminal connects your fax machine to a
standard telephone line. To avoid damage to your
telephone system or to the fax unit, do not plug your
fax machine into anything other than a standard
RJ-11C jack.
Your fax unit is intended to be grounded electrically
and is equipped with a three-wire grounded power
cord. For your safety, do not attempt to defeat your
power cord’s grounding plug.
The power outlet should be located near the equipment
and should be easily accessible.
The TEL port on the back of the unit is only suitable
for 2-wire devices. Not all standard telephones will
respond to incoming ringing when connected to an
extension socket.
This equipment may not necessarily provide for the
effective hand-over of a call from a telephone
connected to the same line.

Use a dry cloth to clean the control panel and the main
body of the unit.
Aside from replacing the toner and image drum
cartridge, do not disassemble or attempt to service this
unit yourself. Refer to a qualified technician for
service. See “Service and Support.”
Disconnect the power cord before trying to remove any
objects that may have fallen into the machine.
When relocating your fax unit, always disconnect the
telephone line before disconnecting the power cord,
then reconnect the power cord first.
This unit is not intended to be used in parallel with any
other telephone devices.
If anything happens that indicates that the fax unit is
not working properly or has been damaged, unplug it
immediately and follow the instructions in “Service
and Support” for having your fax unit serviced. These
are some of the things to look for:
- The power cord or plug is frayed or damaged.
- Liquid has been spilled into the printer, or it has
been exposed to water.
- The fax unit has been dropped, or the cabinet is
damaged.
- The fax unit does not function properly when
you’re following the operating instructions.
Toner Cartridge and Image Drum Unit
Handling

Leave unused toner cartridges and image drum units in
their packages until needed. When replacing a toner
cartridge or image unit, re-use the packaging to dispose
of the old toner cartridge or image drum unit. Be sure
to dispose of it in an environmentally sound manner.
Do not expose these components to light for more than
five minutes. Never expose the green drum (inside the
image drum unit) to direct sunlight.

Always hold the image drum unit by the ends–never by
the middle. Never touch the surface of the green drum
inside the image drum unit.
Exercise care when removing the toner cartridge. Do
not let it touch your clothing or porous materials. The
toner powder causes permanent stains.
Small amounts of toner spilled on skin or clothing can
be readily removed with soap and cold water. Using
heated water will make removing the stain much more
difficult.

Regulatory Information
Year 2000 Compliance
The OKIFAX 5650 is Year 2000 Compliant. It contains information technology that accurately processes date and time data
between the years 1999 and 2000, and carries no issue for the
September 9, 1999 (9999) programming concern. This product,
when used in combination with products purchased from other
manufacturers, whose products properly exchange data and time
information, will accurately process the date and time.
ENERGY STAR®
As an ENERGY STAR Partner, Oki Data has determined that this
product meets the ENERGY STAR guidelines for energy efficiency.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
FCC Telephone Consumer Protection Act
The Federal Communications Commission Telephone Consumer
Protection Act of 1991 makes it unlawful for any person to use a
computer or other electronic device to send any message via a
telephone fax machine unless such message clearly contains in a
margin at the top or bottom of each transmitted page or on the
first page of the transmission, the date and time it is sent and an
identification of the business or other entity, or other individual
sending the message, and the telephone number of the sending
machine or such business, other entity, or individual.
To comply with this law, you must enter the following information in your fax unit:

FCC Radio Frequency Interference Statement for
120-Volt Models
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the
limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC
rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection
against harmful interference in a residential installation. This
equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy
and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions,

the back of the equipment is a label that contains,
among other information, the FCC registration number
and ringer equivalence number (REN) for this
equipment. If requested, this information must be
provided to the telephone company.
2 The following USOC jacks may be used with this
equipment: RJ11C.
3 The REN is used to determine the quantity of devices
which may be connected to the telephone line.
Excessive REN’s on the telephone line may result in
the devices not ringing in response to an emergency
call. In most, but not all areas, the sum of the REN’s
should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the
number of devices that may be connected to the line, as
determined by the total REN’s, contact the telephone
company to determine the maximum REN for your
calling area.
4 If the equipment causes harm to the telephone network,
the telephone company will notify you in advance. But
if advance notice isn’t practical, the telephone company
will notify the customer as soon as possible. Also, you
will be advised of your right to file a complaint with the

the equipment from the network until the problem is

European Union Council of the European
Communities
Industry Canada (IC)
This product is in conformity with Directive 73/23/EEC on the
harmonization of the laws of Member States relating to electrical
equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits.
IC Requirements for End Users
The Industry Canada label identifies certified equipment. This
certification means that the equipment meets certain telecommunications network protective, operational and safety requirements. The Department does not guarantee the equipment will
operate to the user’s satisfaction.
Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is
permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed
using an acceptable method of connection. In some cases, the
company’s inside wiring associated with a single line individual
service may be extended by means of a certified connector
assembly (telephone extension cord). The customer should be
aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent
degradation of service in some situations.
Repairs to certified equipment should be made by an authorized
Canadian maintenance facility designated by the supplier. Any
repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or
equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications
company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.
Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical
ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines and
internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected
together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural
areas.

Users should not attempt to make such connections
themselves, but should contact the appropriate electric
inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate.
The Load Number assigned to each terminal device denotes the
percentage of the total load to be connected to a telephone loop
which is used by the device, to prevent overloading. The
termination of a loop may consist of any combination of devices
subject only to the requirement that the total of the Load
Numbers of all the devices does not exceed 100.

This OKI apparatus complies with Class B limits for radio

Oki Data Americas, Inc. (Oki Data) garantit cet OKIFAX contre
tout défaut de matériel et de fabrication et s'engage à rectifier tout
défaut de ce type selon les termes de la présente Garantie limitée.
Cette Garantie limitée est destinée uniquement à l'acheteur
d'origine et ne couvre pas les consommables.
Oki Data réparera (ou à sa discrétion remplacera) gratuitement et
sur le site de l'acheteur d'origine, pendant une période de quatrevingt-dix (90) jours à partir de la date d'achat, tout composant
défectueux de l'OKIFAX, à condition que ce service de garantie
soit effectué par un centre de réparation OKIFAX agréé ou un
organisme de réparation tiers autorisé. Dès l'expiration de la
période de quatre-vingt-dix (90) jours, et pendant un (1) an à
compter de la date d'achat (cinq (5) ans pour le groupe d'imagerie
à DEL), Oki Data remplacera les pièces défectueuses
gratuitement, à condition que ce service de garantie soit effectué
par un centre de réparation OKIFAX agréé ou un organisme de
réparation tiers autorisé.
Pour présenter une réclamation ou faire une demande de
réparation en bénéficiant de la Garantie limitée de quatre-vingtdix (90) jours sur les pièces et la main-d'oeuvre, contactez votre
revendeur OKIFAX autorisé, votre fournisseur de service
indépendant autorisé, ou Oki Data.
Pour présenter une réclamation ou faire une demande de
réparation en bénéficiant uniquement de la Garantie limitée sur
les pièces, l'acheteur d'origine doit retourner le produit OKI, en
port payé, dans son emballage d'origine ou équivalent, à Oki
Data ou à un centre de service Oki Data agréé en assumant les
risque de perte ou de dommage en cours de transport. Un reçu
écrit du produit indiquant la date d'achat, le nom du revendeur
ainsi que le numéro de série de l'OKIFAX doit être joint à toute
réclamation ou demande de réparation couverte par la présente
Garantie limitée.
Cette Garantie limitée ne s’appliquera pas si le produit a été
endommagé à la suite d’un abus, d’un mauvais usage, d’une
mauvaise application, d’un accident ou à la suite d’une réparation
ou d’une modification effectuée dans un centre de service
OKIFAX non agréé.

Installez l’OKIFAX dans un endroit exempt de poussière, à
l’abri de la lumière du soleil.
Ne branchez pas le télécopieur sur une source d’alimentation
utilisée par des appareils produisant des bruits d’origine
électrique (tels que des climatiseurs, etc.).
Laissez au personnel du service après-vente agréé le soin
d’effectuer les réglages électroniques nécessaires.
La borne LIGNE connecte votre télécopieur à une ligne de
téléphone standard. Pour éviter tout endommagement du
système téléphonique ou du télécopieur, ne branchez pas le
télécopieur dans une prise autre que la prise RJ-11C standard.
Votre télécopieur doit être mis à la masse. Cet appareil est par
conséquent équipé d’un cordon d’alimentation doté d’une
prise de terre à trois fiches. Pour votre sécurité, ne tentez pas
de déjouer la prise de terre du cordon d’alimentation.
La prise d’alimentation doit se situer à proximité de l’appareil
et doit être facile d’accès.
Utilisez un chiffon sec pour nettoyer le tableau de commande
et le bloc principal de l’appareil.
Sauf le remplacement de la cartouche de toner et du tambour
d'impression, n'entreprenez pas de démonter ni d'effectuer les
opérations d'entretien vous-même sur cet appareil. Pour ces
tâches, adressez-vous à un technicien d'entretien qualifié.
Consultez la section «Service et support».
Débranchez le cordon d’alimentation avant d'essayer de
retirer des objets tombés par accident dans l'appareil.
Lorsque vous changez le télécopieur de place, déconnectez
toujours la ligne téléphonique avant le cordon d'alimentation,
puis reconnectez d'abord le cordon d'alimentation avant la
ligne téléphonique.
Cet appareil n'est pas conçu pour une utilisation en parallèle
avec d'autres périphériques téléphoniques.
Si vous observez quoi que ce soit indiquant que votre
télécopieur ne fonctionne pas correctement ou qu’il a été
endommagé, débranchez-le immédiatement et observez les
directives de la section «Service et support» pour le faire
réparer. Voici entre autres certaines situations à surveiller :
– Le cordon d’alimentation ou la fiche sont effilochés ou
endommagés.
– Une substance liquide a été renversée à l’intérieur du
télécopieur ou celui-ci a été en contact avec de l’eau.
– Le télécopieur est tombé ou son boîtier a été endommagé.
– Le télécopieur ne fonctionne pas correctement bien que
vous ayez suivi les directives de fonctionnement.
Manipulation de la cartouche de toner et de
l'unité du tambour d'impression

Le port TEL situé à l’arrière de l’appareil ne peut recevoir que
des dispositifs à 2 fils. Les téléphones standard connectés à
une prise supplémentaire ne répondent pas tous
obligatoirement à la sonnerie d’entrée.
Il se peut que cet appareil ne puisse pas effectuer
adéquatement le transfert d’un appel provenant d’un
téléphone raccordé à la même ligne.

Tant que vous n'avez pas besoin d'utiliser les nouvelles
cartouches de toner et les unités de tambour d'impression,
conservez-les dans leur emballage. Au moment de remplacer
une cartouche de toner ou une unité de tambour d'impression,
utilisez cet emballage pour jeter l'ancienne cartouche ou
l'unité de tambour d'impression. Mettez au rebut la cartouche
d’une manière respectueuse de l’environnement.
N'exposez pas ces composants à la lumière pendant plus de
cinq minutes. N'exposez jamais le tambour vert (situé à
l'intérieur de l'unité du tambour d'impression) à la lumière
directe du soleil.
Saisissez toujours l'unité de tambour d'impression par les
extrémités — jamais par le milieu. Ne touchez jamais la
surface du tambour vert à l'intérieur de l'unité du tambour
d'impression.
Procédez avec précaution lors du retrait de la cartouche de
toner. Évitez tout contact avec vos vêtements ou toute autre
matière poreuse. La poudre de toner peut faire des taches
indélébiles.

L’OKIFAX 5650 sont conformes pour l’an 2000. Ils incorporent
une technologie de l'information qui traite précisément les
données de date et d'heure entre les années 1999 et 2000, et ne
présente aucun problème pour la programmation du 9 septembre
1999 (9999). Ces produits, s'ils sont utilisés en combinaison avec
des produits d'autres fabricants et qui échangent correctement les

Instale su OKIFAX en un lugar libre de polvo, fuera de la luz
directa del sol.
No enchufe la unidad de fax en una fuente de energía
compartida con otro equipo que produzca ruido eléctrico (por
ejemplo, aires acondicionados, etc.).
Los ajustes eléctricos los debe realizar personal de servicio
autorizado.
El terminal de LÍNEA conecta su máquina fax a la línea
estándar de teléfono. Para evitar daños a su sistema telefónico
o a la unidad de fax, solo enchufe la máquina fax a un jack
RJ-11C estándar.
Su unidad de fax debe ser conectada a tierra eléctricamente y
está equipada con un cable eléctrico con un enchufe con
conexión a tierra de 3 contactos. Por su propia seguridad, no
trate de aislar el contacto de conexión a tierra.
El tomacorriente debe estar cerca del equipo y ser de fácil
acceso.
El puerto TEL ubicado en la parte posterior de la unidad está
diseñado para dispositivos de dos cables. No todos los
teléfonos estándar responden a la llamada de entrada cuando
son conectados a un conector de extensión.
Este equipo pueda que no sirva para transferir efectivamente
la llamada de un teléfono conectado a la misma línea.
Operación y Mantenimiento

Utilice un trapo seco para limpiar el panel de control y el
chasis principal de la unidad.
Fuera de cambiar el cartucho del tóner y del tambor de
imagen, no intente desarmar o reparar la unidad. Refiérase a
un técnico calificado para obtener servicio. Vea la sección
"Servicio y Apoyo".
Desconecte el cable eléctrico antes de intentar retirar
cualquier objeto que haya caído dentro de la máquina.
Cuando vaya a mudar la unidad de fax de lugar, siempre
desconecte la línea telefónica antes de desconectar el cable
eléctrico, y luego reconecte primero el cable eléctrico.
No se debe utilizar esta unidad en forma paralela con otros
dispositivos de teléfono.
Si ocurre cualquier incidente que indique que la unidad de fax
no está funcionando correctamente o ha sufrido algún daño,
desenchúfela inmediatamente y siga las instrucciones para
obtener servicio que se indican en la sección "Servicio y
Apoyo". Estas son algunas de las cosas que puede encontrar:
– El cable de alimentación o el enchufe está dañado o roído.
– Se ha derramado líquido dentro de la unidad de fax, o se ha
mojado.
– La unidad de fax se ha caído, o el gabinete está dañado.
– La unidad de fax no funciona correctamente cuando está
siguiendo las instrucciones de operación.
Manejo del cartucho de tóner y del tambor
de imagen

Guarde los cartuchos de tóner y las unidades de tambor de
imagen en sus empaques hasta el momento de utilizarlos.
Cuando reemplace un cartucho de tóner o una unidad de
imagen, utilice el empaque para desechar el cartucho de tóner
o el tambor de imagen viejo. Asegúrese de desechar los
mismos de acuerdo con las normas ambientales.
No exponga estos componentes a la luz del sol por más de
cinco minutos. Nunca exponga el tambor verde (ubicado
dentro de la unidad de tambor de imagen) a la luz directa del
sol.
Siempre sujete el tambor de imagen por los extremos, nunca
por el centro. Nunca toque la superficie del tambor verde
ubicado dentro del tambor de imagen.
Tenga cuidado cuando retire el cartucho de tóner. No permita
que el mismo toque su ropa o materiales porosos. El polvo del
tóner causa manchas permanentes.
Las cantidades pequeñas de tóner derramadas en la piel o la
ropa se pueden eliminar con jabón y agua fría. El agua
caliente hace más difícil remover las manchas.
