LE DÎNER : Réserver une
chambre au Town Hall Hotel
est mon choix préféré pour
un dîner détendu. L'ambiance
est décontractée, tandis
que le menu dégustation
est toujours plein de belles
surprises.

de la riche scène culinaire de Londres et de sa toute
nouvelle entreprise à Dubaï

Réputé pour son interprétation unique
de la cuisine française moderne, étoilé
au guide Michelin, le chef britannique
Tom Aikens a ouvert un restaurant de
concept de partage, Pots, Pans and
Boards (Pots, Casseroles et Planches)
à Dubaï. Il a travaillé avec des chefs
français réputés : Pierre Koffmann,
Joël Robuchon et Gérard Boyer avant
de lancer son propre restaurant, Tom’s
Kitchen, à Chelsea en 2006. Quand À
26 ans, Aikens est devenu le plus jeune
chef britannique de l’histoire ayant été
primé de deux étoiles Michelin. À présent,
il dirige des restaurants à Istambul et à
Hong Kong, en plus d'un certain nombre
de sites prestigieux au Royaume-Uni.
Voici ce qu'il nous dit à propos de son
nouveau restaurant à Dubaï.
» Au sujet de Pots, Pans et Boards…«
Il s'agit d'un restaurant de concept de
partage qui cherche à recréer l'ambiance
informelle d'un repas d'une famille grande
et heureuse. De l'approvisionnement en
ustensiles de cuisine anciens des marchés
aux puces britanniques et français à la
décoration des murs et des étagères du
restaurant, j'ai créé l'ensemble du concept
total du design ainsi que la nourriture
tout en travaillant en étroite collaboration
avec les architectes et concepteurs de
Michaelis Boyd Associates.
Chaque élément dans le menu du
restaurant est servi dans un pot, une
casserole ou sur une planche pour que
les clients puissent le partager, d'où le
nom du restaurant.
» Sur les plats à déguster sans faute
dans le menu…
Je recommanderais le tempura de
calamarnoir, servi avec une sauce chilli,,
de la coriandre et de l'aïoli ; le saumon
mariné en mélasse avec du célerirémoulade et pain irlandais ; la ratatouille
et le yogourt pressé ; et l'épaule d'agneau
de lait de 30 heures. Parmi les desserts,
la tarte crumble aux fruits rouges et aux
pommes vaut le détour, qui me rappelle
mon enfance et qui est toujours un favori
solide.
» Sur son style de cuisine…
Bien que je touve de grandes inspirations
dans les recettes classiques des cuisines
anglaise et française, j’essaye toujours
d’innover en incorporant des produits et
des méthodes de cuisson inhabituelles
des pays où j’ai des restaurants –Istambul,
Hong-Kong et Dubaï.
» Expansion Internationale
Je trouve très stimulant de travailler
dans un autre pays, car je peux découvrir
une nouvelle culture, et m'adapter aux
différents goûts et produits. Bien sûr cela
n’est pas facile, mais je crois que c'est un
défi très positif dans la carrière d'un chef.
» Sur la façon dont Dubaï est
parvenu à la hauteur des meilleures
destinations gastronomiques dans le
monde…
Étant donné que de nombreux grands
chefs s’installent à Dubaï, la qualité
et la cohérence des restaurants sont
en constante amélioration. Dubaï est
devenu certainement une destination
de fin gourmet.

Une sœur du Montpellier cosmopolite le long de la
route, Sète est un village de pêcheurs décontracté, mais
surprenant, il est aussi célèbre pour ses poètes que
pour son été spectaculaire sans pareil.

Courageuse pour affronter la clameur et
l'odeur d'un port de pêche et de travail,
je ne savais pas trop quoi faire de Sète
en faisant mon chemin de la gare à son
bord de mer et je me suis dirigé vers le
quai. Sète a été appelée « la Venise du
Languedoc » et au premier coup d'œil,
et même en scrutant intensément , il
est difficile de voir les similitudes.Mais
les premiers coups d'œil, comme c'est
souvent le cas, font à Sète une énorme
injustice. L'appeler Venise peut être un

peu exagéré (cela vient des nombreux
canaux qui traversent la ville) mais le
petit port de pêche à 30 km en dehors de
Montpellier sur la côte sud de renommée
mondiale de la France offre une vue
agréable et plus précise de la vie réelle
dans la Riviera.Une " presqu'île " comme
disent les Français, Sète est assise sur
un promontoire entre la mer et l'étang
de Thau, une lagune d'eau saléecélèbre
pour ses claires huîtres et de moules
de haute qualité. Cela permet 12 km de
superbe plage de sable fin orientée vers
Montpellier avec tous les sports nautiques
à l’appui, des bars décontractés et des
restaurants dans des cabanes de plage.
La partie inférieure de la ville s’enroule
autour du rocher du Mont St-Clair et sort
vers le port, donnant sur les maisons
de la façade portuaire et les canaux,
tandis que la partie plus élevée est un
labyrinthe de maisons à inclinaison en
pente raide, autrefois les demeures des
pêcheurs mais maintenant les artistes les

ce qui rend les fruits de mer un aliments
tout simple. La Coquerie (www.
annemajourel.fr) a gagné une étoile au
guide Michelin en 2012 et mérite que
l’on fasse des folies pour savourer la
cuisine traditionnelle saine du Chef
Anne Majourel avec des vues sur le
port brillant. Le Mistral, situé en léger
retrait de la mer avec un aspect moins
brillant serait facile à négliger, mais le
restaurant offre une petite sélection
changeant de plats incomparables
élaborés avec les riches ingrédients
locaux. Apportez de l'argent en effectif
car il n'y a pas de machine à carte.

le plus de victimes. Le spectacle est si
séduisant que la ville est régulièrement
remplie pendant la période de canicule
jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit pleine à craquer
, les canots pneumatiques offrent un
espace supplémentaire précieux pour les
spectateurs au bord de la mer. Le fils du
propriétaire, j'apprends ,avec une fierté
remarquable de son père, faisait partie
de l'équipe gagnante de l'année dernière.
En rendant visite au début de septembre,
je regrette d’avoir manqué l'événement
principal, mais je suis également soulagée
d'éviter le désordre de la foule. Hors
saison, Sète peut être vraiment savourée
comme le loup de mer sans prétention
qu'il est. Ceci est le sud de la France sans
aucune prétention.

La puissance financière du quartier des affaires de Francfort est
connue comme "Mainhattan". Situé au bord de la rivière Main,
les gratte-ciels de la cinquième plus grande ville de l'Allemagne
apporteront le Manhattan de New York à l'esprit, d'où leur surnom.
En fait, Francfort est le foyer de la Banque centrale européenne,
de l'un des aéroports les plus fréquentés dans le monde et de la
puissante Deutsche Bank - dont le siège est aux tours jumelles
imposantes qui sont joyeusement mentionnées par les habitants
comme t le débit et le crédit. Pourtant, pour l'ensemble de la
puissance commerciale, Francfort conserve une atmosphère de
petite ville dans certaines parties, contrairement à Londres et à
Paris, ainsi qu'elle offre également un bon nombre de musées de
premier ordre, galeries, bars et restaurants étoilés par Michelin.

Le matin
Francfort a peut avoir été détruite
pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale,
mais dirigez-vous à la place de
Römerberg, et vous aurez une idée de
ce à quoi la ville ressemblait dans son
époque de faste médiéval. Les maisons

Dirigez-vous vers la Kleine Bockenheimer
Strasse, mieux connue comme Jazzgasse
(Jazz Alley) et vous découvrirez très vite

Prenez un tabouret à l'un des nombreux
bars clandestins de la ville et si vous

savent une chose ou deux au sujet de la
période Yuletide. Et rien ne le démontre
complètement aussi clairement que les

Allant de la fin novembre jusqu'à la fin
de décembre, la ville se glorifie d'avoir
certains des plus anciens de leur espèce
en Allemagne. Tout comme le friandise

éléphantesque - Hambourg est un poids
lourd véritable sur la scène du marché

Le soir
Le bel Alte Oper de Francfort (l'ancien
opéra), a peut-être renoncé à son
prestige de la maison de l'Opéra de
la ville (il a déménagé à un bâtiment
moderne à proximité en 1951), mais il
est encore utilisé comme une salle de
concert. Suite à sa destruction durant la
Deuxième Guerre Mondiale, le bâtiment a
été reconstruit selon sa gloire passée en
1981, et bien que l'intérieur ne puisse pas
être aussi magnifique que l'original, pour
une soirée, aller à un concert est toujours
une expérience magique.

Le Festival des Lumières de l’Inde est aussi
multicouche que le pays lui-même

Hindou, Jain ou Sikh - Diwali est une grosse affaire.
Il se déroule du 9 au 13 Novembre, que ce soit la
défaite de Ravanna par Lord Rama ou la réalisation
du nirvana par Mahavira, les détails de la raison pour
laquelle les Indiens célèbrent Diwali sont différents.
En fait, ils sont aussi distincts et multiformes que la
population vaste et colorée du pays. Globalement,
des centaines de millions y participent, mais c'est
l'Inde qui vous vient tout d'abord à l'esprit quand le
festival est mentionné. Tiré du mot sanskrit signifiant
rangée de lampes, les cinq jours de célébration
comprennent de tout, depuis les feux d'artifice,
les achats et la prière à la danse, les cadeaux et
(digne du nom) allumage des Diyas (lampes à huile).
Également connue comme Deepavali et le Festival
des Lumières, l'occasion est également considérée
par les hindous comme le début de leur Nouvel
An. Ce qui unit les diverses croyances est le thème
sous-jacent de la lumière – précisément le triomphe
de la lumière sur le mal - la métaphore antique pour
le bien qui vainc le mal.

Pour les hindous, le premier jour est connu comme Dhanteras
et il est habituel pour beaucoup de gens d'épousseter leurs
cartes de crédit pour faire des courses cérémonielles. La veille
de la cérémonie, les maisons sont décorées et les rangolis sont
préparés. Une forme d'art populaire fait au sol , les rangolis
sont traditionnellement des motifs décoratifs en farine de
riz colorée et organisés en l'honneur de la déesse Lakshmi symbole de prospérité. Le jour même est souvent une mêlée
générale chaotique où les acheteurs sont en concurrence pour
les sucreries, les vêtements, et en reconnaissance de l'occasion
prometteuse, de l'or et de l'argent, lorsque c’est possible.
Les métamorphoses de garde-robe ainsi que des sucreries et
des cadeaux brillants sont à l'ordre du jour, mais Diwali qui a
aussi un esprit généreux et l'établissement de petits (ou pas si
petits) cadeaux aux personnes plus proches et plus chères est

grande voisine, l'Inde, Diwali demeure une occasion

famille et des amis pour les fêtes et les célébrations.
NÉPAL
Au Népal, le festival est appelé Tihar. Tandis que les
participants montrent leur respect aux Dieux, comme
Lakshmi, l'occasion est également marquée par la
démonstration de leur appréciation pour leur étroite
relation avec les animaux. En fait, le deuxième jour,
(connu sous le nom Kukur Tihar), les chiens sont
vénérés et on leur présente des cadeaux.

Dans les zones franches des Émirats arabes unis, les

Cheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi
Son Altesse Cheikh Dr Sultan Bin
Mohammed Al Qasimi, membre du
Conseil suprême des Émirats arabes
unis et Dirigeant de Sharjah depuis 1972,
est vraiment un véritable dirigeant de la
Renaissance.
Vu le règne bienveillant et progressif
de 43 ans du Dr Cheikh Sultan, et vu sa
gamme éclectique des intérêts et des
connaissances dans diverses disciplines,
le terme lui convient avec justesse.
De la relance de la culture islamique et
arabe, et la préservation et la protection
du patrimoine arabe à la croissance dans
l'apprentissage moderne, la science et
la technologie, les quatre décennies du
règne du Dr Cheikh Sultan a été une
période de grande activité artistique et
intellectuelle.
Doué d'une mémoire eidétique, il a
écrit et publié ses mémoires en quatre
parties, Les Débuts de ma Vie, Prendre
les Règnes dans les Années Critiques de
1971 à 1977, Les Années de Consolidation
1979 – 1987 et La Culture, l'Éducation
et le Changement 1987-2004. Bien que
ces mémoires aient été écrits en arabe
élégant, ils ont été ensuite traduits
dans plusieurs langues européennes et
asiatiques.
La quatrième partie du mémoire du Dr
Cheikh Sultan, Hadeeth Al Thakira, qui a
été publié lors l'inauguration de la 32ème
Foire Internationale du Livre à Sharjah
(FILS) en 2013, captive clairement les
initiatives prises par le dirigeant pour
promouvoir la culture islamique, au
niveau aussi bien local que mondial.
Ces uniques initiatives ont finalement
abouti à la victoire de Sharjah du titre
de la Capitale Culturelle du Monde Arabe
par l'UNESCO en 1998. Il a fait don de
250 000 $ à l'UNESCO et a établi le Prix
de Sharjah pour la culture arabe dans
la même année pour récompenser les
individus, les groupes ou les institutions
qui contribuent au développement, à
l'enrichissement et à la diffusion de la
culture arabe partout dans le monde.
Construire des ponts culturels
Le Dr. Cheikh Sultan met en évidence
dans le chapitre 8 de son mémoire
comment il a contribué à la relance
de l'héritage culturel de l'arabe en
Espagne, qui a aidé à construire
des ponts culturels entre l'Orient et
l'Occident. Il a également contribué
de façon significative à la création
de la Fondation Culturelle Azzagra à
Grenade, une province en Espagne. Tout
en reconnaissant sa contribution, Abdul
Samad Antonio Romero, directeur de la
Fondation, a invité le Dr. Cheikh Sultan

pour inaugurer Azzagra en 2001.
L'activité a été assistée par Son Altesse
Cheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al
Qasimi, épouse du Dr Shaikh Sultan, et
son fils, Cheikh Khaled Bin Sultan Bin
Mohammed Al Qasimi, qui a prononcé
un discours en espagnol. La plaque
commémorative à la mosquée de
Roses, qui peut accueillir plus de deux
mille fidèles, reconnaît l'appui financier
généreux offert par le Dr. Cheikh Sultan
pour la construction du complexe.
Pendant ce temps, dans une déclaration
faite à l'Agence des Nouvelles d'Émirats
et le canal du satellite Sharjah, Dr Cheikh
Sultan a déclaré, "Je suis heureux de
participer avec les musulmans espagnols
à l'inauguration de cette Grande
Mosquée. J'invite le monde arabe et
islamique à explorer les aspects et les
région de communauté avec les pays
de l'Est et de l'Ouest afin de fabriquer
leurs points de départ pour construire
de ponts pour le dialogue culturel et
intellectuel, échanger l'expertise et la
coopérer pour le bien de l'humanité."
Il a ajouté: "Avec l'ouverture de
cette grande mosquée, les musulmans
espagnols se sentent maintenant qu'ils
ont des frères dans le Moyen-Orient, qui
les partagent leurs joies et leurs peines. "
Une autre initiative importante adoptée
par le Dr Cheikh Sultan visait à créer une
solide infrastructure pour l'enseignement
supérieur à Sharjah, à la fois en arabe et
en anglais, pour un nombre croissant
d'étudiants émiratis.
Attirant des étudiants de plus
de 78 pays, la Cité Universitaire est
maintenant une plaque tournante pour
l'enseignement supérieur dans les Émirats
Arabes Unis, tandis que l'Université de
Sharjah et l'Université Américaine offrent
une éducation de calibre mondial dans
diverses disciplines.
Pour résumer les exploits du Dr Cheikh
Sultan comme un dirigeant visionnaire,
je suis tenté de rappeler ce qu'a dit une
fois le ministre koweïtien de l'information,
Honorer Son Altesse Dr Cheikh Sultan
est un honneur pour un grand nombre
d'étudiant, qui connaissent parfaitement

A sister to cosmopolitan Montpellier up the road, Sète
is a laid-back but surprising fishing town, as famous for
its poets as for its unique summer spectacular.
ESCAPE
Gritty with the clamour and the smell of
a working fishing port, I wasn’t quite sure
what to make of Sète as I made my way
from the train station at its fringe and
headed down to the quayside. It’s been
called ‘the Venice of Languedoc’ and at
first glance, even squinting, it’s hard to
see the similarities.
But first glances, as so often is the
case, do Sète an enormous injustice.
Calling it Venice might be a bit of an
overstatement (it comes from the many
canals that run through the city), but the
little fishing port 30 kilometres outside
Montpellier on the world-renowned
South coast of France offers a refreshing
and honest view of real life in the Riviera.
A ‘presque île’ – nearly island – as the
French call it, Sète sits on a promontory
between the sea and the elongated Étang
de Thau salt lagoon, famous for highquality oyster and mussel beds. That
makes for a superb 12-kilometre stretch
of fine sandy beach reaching towards
Montpellier with all the accompanying
watersports, relaxed bars and beachshack restaurants.
The lower part of the town wraps itself
round the rock of Mont St-Clair and pans
out to the port, harbour front houses
and canals, while the higher is a warren
of steeply inclining houses, once home
to fishermen but now also colonised by
artists. It’s worth heading up to the very
top (take the number 5 bus if your legs
won’t carry you) for the views over the
city and to see the modern frescoes in
the chapel of Notre-Dame-De-La-Salette.
Its relatively new artistic legacy has
given rise to a number of museums
and galleries dedicated to the fine
arts, notably the Centre Régional d’Art

Take a boat trip
Sète is almost surrounded
by water, criss-crossed with
canals and home to the largest
fishing fleet in the French
Mediterranean, so if you don’t
take to the water, you’re missing
out. Take a boat excursion (with
underwater portholes) and learn
about the fishing, the port and
oyster and mussel farms.

On your bike
The Canal du Midi, terminating
here, was a great 17th-century
feat of engineering, linking the
Mediterranean with the Atlantic.
Although traders no longer use
it to avoid the rough waters and
pirates off Iberia, cycling its tow
paths has become a popular
family-friendly pastime.

Head up the hill to Quartier
Haut to get the best views
over the bay from the quaint
fishermen’s district. Many of
the residents here originate
from Amalfi, and the spot has
become popular with artists.

Contemporain Languedoc-Roussillon,
but for me, the most pleasure comes
from wandering the bridges, canals and
quays of the town itself. The convergence
of working fishing port, canals and
lagoon give Sète an energy that the rest
of the laid-back, linen-clad, rattan-seated
Riviera – for all its glory – lacks.

me past the maritime cemetery made
famous by the poet Paul Valéry, one of
France’s finest sons. Marauding gulls
signal the landing of a fishing catch and

the rive droite as I settle myself outside
at a café for a morning coffee – it’s de

Each summer in late August, crowds
gather along the Canal Royal for the
annual water jousting tournament. Boats
replace a knight’s steed, but the principle
is the same: dressed in white, contestants
perched at the prow of a rowing boat,
powered by their team, charge each
other, aiming to knock their opponent
into the water. The victor is the one with

It almost looks like the little town of
Sète is adrift in the sea, tethered to the
mainland by ropes of land, which makes
seafood a no-brainer. Le Coquerie
(www.annemajourel.fr) earned a
Michelin star in 2012 and it is worth the
splurge for Chef Anne Majourel’s vibrant
take on traditional food along with
views over the gleaming harbour. Le
Mistral, set slightly back from the sea,
would be easy to overlook, but does a
small, changing selection of unrivalled
dishes made from local ingredients.
Bring cash as there’s no card machine.
Also, for freshly prepared, quality food
at a reasonable price, Le Tilapia (+33 4
67 78 00 26) is a solid option.

the most victims and the spectacle is
so beguiling that the town fills steadily
up in the dog days of summer until it’s
almost fit to burst, inflatable dinghies
providing valuable extra space for
waterfront spectators. The owner’s son,
I am told with notable pride, was part of
the winning team last year.
Visiting in early September, I regret
missing the main event but am equally
relieved to avoid the crush of crowds.
Off season, Sète can be really savoured
for the unassuming seadog that it is.
This is the south of France without
any pretensions.

The financial powerhouse of Frankfurt’s business district is
known as “Mainhatten.” Located on the river Main, Germany’s
fifth-largest city’s soaring skyscrapers bring New York’s
Manhattan to mind, hence the nickname. In fact, Frankfurt is
home to the European Central Bank, one of the world's busiest
airports and the mighty Deutsche Bank, headquartered in

imposing Kaiserdom Cathedral – a
redbrick gothic-style building that was

Morning
Head to the observation deck in the
200-metre tall Main Tower and you’ll
enjoy the highest and arguably the
finest view of the city’s dynamic
skyline. The skyscrapers of Frankfurt’s
“Mainhatten” might impose a sense of
unrelenting modernity on the town but
it remains a destination that’s proud
of its past and heritage. One of the
city’s most famous sons is the revered
polymath, who is considered by many
to be Germany’s greatest-ever writer;
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Goethe,
who died in 1832, counted playwright,
poet, novelist, scientist and theatre
critic amongst his range of talent.
Essentially, he was impressively prolific
and to garner more of an understanding
of the great man’s achievements, his
childhood home (Goethe House in the
Innenstadt district), is now a museum.
Afternoon
As the originators of the now
internationally ubiquitous Christmas
tree (the Bavarians’ descendants have
been decorating festive ferns since
the 16th Century), Germans know
a thing or two about the Yuletide
period. And nothing demonstrates this
quite as vividly as Frankfurt’s suitably
chintzy Christkindchesmarkets (festive
markets). Running from late November
until late December, the city boasts
some of the oldest of their kind in
Germany. Much like the sugary national
delicacy, stollen – a festive fruitcake
that packs an elephantine weightiness
– Frankfurt is a true heavyweight on the
winter market scene (a trend they’ve
been successfully exporting throughout
Europe since the 1990s). The pick of
the bunch is located outside Hamburg’s
Gothic Town Hall (in Rathausplatz) and
features everything from handcrafted
decorations to Printen cookies (a
hard bread) from Aachen. Mingle with
the families, sip a warm drink and it
would be a Scrooge indeed who didn’t
succumb to the festive spirit.
Evening
Frankfurt’s beautiful Alte Oper (Old
Opera House) may have relinquished
its status as the home of the city’s opera
(it moved to a nearby modern building in
1951), but it is still used as a concert hall.
Following its destruction in the Second
World War, the building was rebuilt to
its former glory in 1981, and although
the interior may not be as opulent as the
original, for an evening out, going to a
concert is still a magical experience.

THE RENAISSANCE RULER OF
SHARJAH SHARES HIS MEMOIRS

His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin
Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the
Supreme Council of the UAE and the
Ruler of Sharjah since 1972, is indeed a
true Renaissance ruler.
Looking at Dr Shaikh Sultan’s 43-yearlong progressive reign and his eclectic
range of interests and knowledge in
various subjects, the term is very apt.
From the revival of the Islamic and
Arabic culture and the preservation
and protection of Arab heritage to the
growth in modern learning, science and
technology, Dr Shaikh Sultan’s four-
decade reign has been a period of great
artistic and intellectual activity.
Blessed with an eidetic memory, he
has authored and published his memoirs
in four parts: My Early Life; Taking the
Reins: the Critical Years 1971 to 1977;
The Consolidation Years 1979 to 1987;
and The Culture, Education and Change
1987 to 2004. While these memoirs
were originally written in elegant Arabic,
they were later translated into several
European and Asian languages.
The fourth part of Dr Shaikh Sultan’s
memoir, Hadeeth Al Thakira, which was

Building cultural bridges
It can be seen from Dr Shaikh Sultan’s
memoir that he contributed to the
revival of the Moorish/Arabic cultural
legacy in Spain, which helped build
cultural bridges between the East
and the West. He also contributed
significantly towards the establishment
of the Azzagra Cultural Foundation in
Granada, a province in Spain. While
acknowledging his contribution, Abdul
Samad Antonio Romero, director of the
Foundation, invited Dr Shaikh Sultan to
inaugurate Azzagra in 2001.
The function was attended by
Her Highness Shaikha Jawaher Bint
Mohammad Al Qasimi, wife of Dr Shaikh
Sultan, and his son, Shaikh Khalid Bin
Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, who
delivered an address in Spanish.
Meanwhile, in a statement to the
Emirates News Agency and the Sharjah
satellite channel, Dr Shaikh Sultan
said, “I call upon the Arab and Islamic
world to explore aspects and areas
of commonality with nations of East
and West with a view to making them
starting points for building bridges
for cultural and intellectual dialogue,
exchange of expertise and cooperation
for the good of mankind.”
Another important initiative taken
by Dr Shaikh Sultan was to create
a strong infrastructure for higher
education in Sharjah, both in Arabic
and English, for a growing number of
Emirati students.
To sum up Dr Shaikh Sultan’s feats as
a visionary ruler, I am tempted to recall
what a Kuwaiti minister of information
once said: “Honouring Dr Shaikh Sultan
is honouring a giant of a scholar, well
versed in history, geography, creativity,
literature, drama and the arts.”

‫تذكارية قرب بناء مسجد الورود تكريمًا للرعاية‬
‫الكريمة والدعم المالي الذي قدمه الشيخ‬
‫الدكتور سلطان خالل عملية بناء المجمع‪.‬‬
‫وفي تصريح إلى وكالة أنباء اإلمارات وقناة‬
‫صاحب السمو الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد القاسمي‬
‫الشارقة الفضائية قال سمو الشيخ الدكتور‬
‫سلطان‪" :‬إنه من دواعي سروري أن أشارك‬
‫يعتبر صاحب السمو الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن‬
‫حديث الذاكرة (الذي يتناول مواضيع الثقافة‬
‫المسلمين االسبان في افتتاح هذا المسجد‬
‫محمد القاسمي‪ ،‬عضو المجلس األعلى لدولة‬
‫والتربية والتغيير في سنوات ‪.)2004-1987‬‬
‫الكبير‪ .‬وفي هذه المناسبة‪ ،‬أدعو العالم العربي‬
‫اإلمارات العربية المتحدة‪ ،‬حاكم الشارقة منذ عام‬

‫تمت كتابة نص المذكرات األصلي‬

‫فصيحة‪ ،‬وتمت ترجمة الكتب فيما بعد إلى عدة‬
‫واإلسالمي الستكشاف الجوانب المشتركة‬
‫بين شعوب المشرق وشعوب الغرب بغية‬
‫من معنى‪ .‬وندرك أن هذا اللقب يناسب سموه‬
‫لغات أوروبية وآسيوية‪.‬‬
‫بناء جسور للحوار الثقافي والفكري وتبادل‬
‫‪ ،1972‬قائدًا لمشروع نهضة بكل ماتحمله الكلمة‬
‫عندما ننظر إلى العهد التقدمي الكريم للشيخ‬
‫تزامن نشر الكتاب الرابع لمذكرات الشيخ‬
‫الخبرات والتعاون من أجل خير البشرية‪ .‬يشعر‬
‫الدكتور سلطان على مدى ‪ 43‬سنة وحين نرى‬
‫الدكتور سلطان‪ ،‬حديث الذاكرة‪ ،‬مع افتتاح‬
‫المسلمون االسبان بافتتاح هذا المسجد‬
‫الدورة الثانية والثالثين لمعرض الشارقة الدولي‬
‫العظيم أن لهم إخوان في الشرق األوسط‬
‫فمن إحياء الثقافة اإلسالمية والثقافة العربية‬
‫للكتاب في عام ‪ .2013‬ويقدم الكتاب لمحات‬
‫يشاركونهم أفراحهم وآالمهم"‪.‬‬
‫والجهود المبذولة في سبيل الحفاظ على‬
‫عن المبادرات التي أطلقها سموه لتعزيز‬
‫ومن المبادرات الهامة التي قام بها الشيخ‬
‫التراث العربي‪ ،‬إلى تنمية التعليم والتكنولوجيا‬
‫ونشر الثقافة اإلسالمية على األصعدة المحلية‬
‫الدكتور سلطان تأسيس بنية تحتية قوية‬
‫والعلوم‪ ،‬كانت العقود األربعة خالل عهد الشيخ‬
‫الدكتور حقبةً حافلةً بالنشاط الفكري والفني‪.‬‬
‫واإلقليمية والعالمية‪ .‬أسهمت هذه المبادرات‬
‫للتعليم العالي في إمارة الشارقة باللغتين‬
‫في حصول الشارقة على لقب "العاصمة‬
‫العربية واإلنجليزية الستيعاب العدد المتنامي‬
‫من الطالب اإلماراتيين‪.‬‬
‫مدى اهتمامه وإلمامه بمختلف العلوم‪.‬‬

‫لمكافأة المشاركين من األفراد والمؤسسات‬

‫وناقــد مســرحي إضافــةً إلــى مواهــب أخــرى‪ .‬وكان‬
‫غوتــه عبقريــً مبتك ـرًا غزيــر اإلنتــاج‪ ،‬ولإلبحــار فــي‬
‫إنجازاتــه‪ ،‬تــم تحويــل مســقط رأســه فــي منطقــة‬
‫إنينشــتات إلــى متحــف يحمــل إســم منــزل غوتــه‪.‬‬

‫تعتبــر بافاريــا منشــأ الشــجرة الصنوبريــة‬

‫المشــاركون في األعياد تبجيلهم آللهة الهندوس‪ ،‬كالكشــمي‬
‫على ســبيل المثال‪ ،‬كما يحتفلون بالمناســبة بإظهار بوادر الود‬
‫والمحبــة نحــو الحيوانات أيضًا‪ .‬في الحقيقة‪ ،‬يقوم النيباليون في‬
