www-sop.inria.fr Intranet: www-sop.inria.fr/interne -2- Welcome to the INRIA Sophia Antipolis – Méditerranée Centre, one of INRIA's six research units! You will soon join a new team and discover a new work environment. In addition to meeting our internal regulatory requirements, this Welcome Guide will provide you with orientation and support, help you understand how the Institute works and offer practical information which you can supplement with the more detailed information on our external and internal websites. INRIA Sophia Antipolis - Méditerranée, created in 1983 and a core player in the region's technology park, currently boasts a workforce of over 500 people – researchers, engineers, administrative staff, doctoral students, outside collaborators and more than 40 different nationalities. The Institute owes its vitality and excellence to its staff, whom you'll have the chance to meet as you get settled. Your first contact will be with your team research leader/department manager and the team research/department assistant. They will be able to answer (almost) all your questions, so don't hesitate to ask! INRIA is a national public research institute subject to specific rules and regulations. By respecting these rules, you will enable the Institute to function properly and ensure everyone's safety. 15 - There is at least one “security board” in each corridor. The security board contains: - Emergency instructions, - List of evacuators, list of first aid rescuers, - Evacuation plan (with fire extinguisher marked). Be informed: - Locate the ‘security board’ in the corridors, and read the instructions, - Contact one of the evacuators of your building, to ask any question, - Locate “break glass alarm boxes”, ask an evacuator if necessary, - Read the evacuation plan, follows the green arrows to leave the building, locate the fire extinguishers. Emergency instructions Fire ==== If you see the beginning of a fire: dial 9 If possible and safe, attempt to extinguish the fire with an appropriate, nearby-located fire extinguisher. If possible give the alarm by breaking the “break glass alarm box” Accident ======== Dial 9, Or an authorized first aid rescuer (secouriste sauveteur du travail = SST). See the list: http://www-sop.inria.fr/interne/comites/chs/secouristes.pdf or on the ‘security board’ A first-aid kit is available on each level of each building in the room with collective photocopiers /printers. Evacuation ========== When the alarm rings (long modulated signal), or when told to do so by evacuators: - Leave your office, if possible turn on the security of your materials; - Close the windows and the door; - Do not use the elevator. - Do not return. - Follow instructions given by evacuators and leave the building, using the nearest emergency exit; - Go to the meeting point. - Do not use your car. -Try to figure out your colleagues are here, in case of any doubt tell the evacuators. Evacuators have been trained to know what to do; there are some of them in each building. The list of the evacuators of your building is on the “security board”. ALERT (dial 9), INFORM, OBEY the security instructions Do safely Inside the buildings: - 16 - SAFETY INFORMATION Information and safety at the research unit Keep the ways fluent, remove from useless packing Tell the security staff or the evacuators any unusual smoke or burning smell or unusual noise in a machine. Also tell the security if some fire appliance seems to be damaged. Do not smoke where forbidden. Be ware of the security of your own electric devices. Outside: When you smoke, be sure ashes and ends of cigarettes are thrown in an appropriate tray. Don’t go alone (especially during week ends or at night) along the pool (there is no fall alarm) PEDESTRIAN: When you have to go across “route des Lucioles”, use the pedestrian path. When dark, don’t forget to use reflecting equipments to be seen. If necessary, ask Francoise Bucher a security jacket. Restricted use of a professional car, as a mean of transport, if alone. This use is limited to day trips that range less than 11 hours. (To reduce the risk of tired driving) “Emergency evacuation in case of fire” training: there is at least one clear building exercise by year. Adapted from Marcel Salgues Formations Sécurité (MSFS), May 2004, following evacuation exercises at the site on 12, 13 and 14 May 2004.
