Les "sales têtes" en tournage
Je me réjouis beaucoup d'avoir de vos nouvelles ; je commençais à me sentir abandonnée, après
tant de mois!
Dommage, je ne serai probablement pas à Amsterdam cette année.
La raison à cela ne pourrait par contre pas être meilleure : nous sommes en plein tournage des "
Sales Têtes ", qui, grâce à notre amie Claudia Bucher et à Olaf Grünert, fera l'objet d'une soirée
Théma du dimanche pour ARTE GEIE. Le renfort de TSR (Irène Challand et Gaspard Lamunière ont
été les pionniers) et plus récemment de History Channel Italie (Sherin Salvetti), de RTBF (avec
Claire Colart) et d' ARTE Belgique, nous ont permis d'être aujourd'hui environs au 2/3 du tournage,
et d'envisager de terminer la post-production pour le mois de février. Ce ne sont pas de bonnes
nouvelles ?
Bien entendu, tout cela est un " pur produit " Eurodoc : une coproduction avec Program33 (notre
chère amie Christine Doublet), à laquelle s'est ajouté Néon Rouge (la société Belge d'Aurélien
Bodinaux), le tout parrainé par Claudia Bucher! Ca fait quatre d'un seul groupe du cycle 5, sans
compter les intervenants de la dernière session.
Résultat collectif donc, et grande satisfaction pour l'instant, mais attendons de voir le film…
J'espère vraiment d'avoir l'occasion bientôt de lever un verre à votre santé!

“François Mauriac, un journaliste engagé” de Gilbert Balavoine produit par ZANGRA FILMS et
coproduit par IOTA PRODUCTION a été diffusé par la RTBF.
“Roméo, Juliette et ... l’immigration” de Annie Saint Pierre, un documentaire québécois produit par
VIRAGE PRODUCTONS et coproduit en Europe par IOTA PRODUCTION et la RTBF, GRENADE
PRODUCTIONS et Odyssée est en cours de tournage en Belgique. Post-production prévue début
2007.
“Champ Sacré” le documentaire de Sonia Pastecchia produit par IOTA PRODUCTION et
AUDIOVISIOCONEPT est en cours de financement. Il a reçu le soutien de la Commission du film
belge, de la RTBF et de Wallonie Image Production. La recherche de financement est en cours en
France. Tournage prévu en janvier 2006 en Belgique et en mai 2006 en Italie. Pour ce projet, nous
avons également le soutien de Enrica de GraffitiDoc.
“Où est l’amour dans la palmeraie ?”, un documentaire de Jérôme le Maire produit par IOTA
PRODUCTION est soutenu également par MAT FILMS. La recherche de financement est en cours
également.
“Le soleil et la Mort” de Bernard Debord est un documentaire produit par MAT FILM et coproduit par
IOTA PRODUCTION et la RTBF. La post-production est en cours. Nous espérons que le film sera
présenté au FIPA de Biarritz en janvier 2006.

Anatomy of a massacre
The project was developed at EuroDOC Script 2002 by Andrea Prandstraller. Agnese Fontana,
Brooklyn Films srl assisted Mr. Prandstraller in developing the project. The project was pitched in
Bologna during the workshop organized by DOC/IT : "National Geographics/Fox International
Channels/Meetings of Documentary filmmakers ", also gaining the interests of the present
commissioning editors. Shooting took place in Italy (Pedescala), Germany, and at the NARA in
Washington D.C.
Produced by Brooklyn Films srl in co-production with AGER 3 srl. Pay TV world wide rights pre-sold
Fox International Channels Italy (aired the 25th of April, 2005 on the History Channel). All other

Last Friday we have got the confirmation that Dream Land is selected for the nomination at
EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY DOCUMENTARY 2005 - PRIX ARTE.
Let's see how it will go on there. And, of course, merci beaucoup to EURODOC!
We had the biannual National Film Festival and our Dream Land have got one of the main awards
as the Best Latvian Short Documentary. We have been also awarded for the Best Sound Design.
EURODOC have made great job - two productions - MITUMBA in Italy and DREAM LAND in Latvia
are the best films this year. By the way - last week we have got also Grand Prix in St.Petersburg
(Russia) festival Green Vision as well as nominated for Prix Arte at the European Film Academy.

elle la raconte devant lacaméra. Derrière la caméra, mais à son tour aussi devant, Khady Sylla, la
réalisatrice, filme la douleur. Leur douleur à chacune, non pas dans un partage illusoire, mais
exposée, posée, bavard ou muet, côte à côte, comme les fragments de ce miroir brisé qu'on
entrevoit et dont parle la réalisatrice.
Portrait, autoportrait : de qui ? De la maladie, des errements urbains, de la folie, de deux femmes,
d'une Afrique fantôme ? C'est sur ces questions que s'ouvre grand la fenêtre du film.
Aminta Ngom is mad. She knows it, and she is not at all ashamed of it. She sometimes carries her
suffering through the streets of Dakar, she endures it between the courtyard walls of her family
home, and she talks about it in front of the camera. Behind the camera, and sometimes also in
front of it, the director Khady Sylla films distress: distress felt by both of them, not in an illusory
sharing, but distress that is shown, contained, voiced or muted, side by side, like fragments of the
broken mirror that we see, of which the filmmaker speaks. Portrait, self-portrait: of whom or what?
Of illness, or urban wanderings, of madness, of two women, of a phantom Africa? This film openly
addresses these questions.

Right now I am editing another film for Anne Kjersti, so our Eurodoc project is a bit on hold again (last winter and spring I finalised another five-year-project, which made me pretty
unavailable for any other work). But it is proceeding, and just a few weeks ago I got a notice from
Céline in our group, who was very interested in coproducing the film. We'll see what happens after
she's seen the pilot and Anne Kjersti's previous film. In any
case, we have a superb co-writer, who is a dramatist, author and specialist on Greek mythology.
He's working on a new sequence right now, and after that we will be (more or less) ready for the
Norwegian Film Fund, our main financial supplier (we hope).
Please give my best to whoever else are still there of the ones I met in 2002-03.

Hesse / Germany goes to Passion for the Opera a film by Katharina Rupp :
When Claudio Monteverdi created the first opera L´Orfeo, the Italian people began to develop a
genuine and passionate affection for this art. An art full of illusions, dreams and drama. After Verdi
and Puccini some of this glory has faded, but the devotion of true fans will never trickle away.
For example Giancarlo, a Claqueur at the famous Arena di Verona: provided by some Spaghetti but
not scarcely even more, he will support a star, will give his Bravos at the exact and negotiated
moment. For the audience from the Loggione, opera lovers who even accept a bad view, this is, of
course, a sabotage against their quest for true art.
When we come to know the old men of the opera club at the tavern, who compare the current La
Traviata with the last soccer game of AC Parma, we are right in the middle of the Italian soul. What
else could it be that at some other place 27 mature worthy men call themselves after the 27
operas composed by Verdi?

Après deux ans et demi de travail, WHITE TERROR de Daniel SCHWEIZER est sorti en salle en
Suisse, poursuit sa carrière dans les festivals (après Locarno, Florence, Séville…) et sera diffusé sur
ARTE en 2006. Cette belle expérience de coproduction , que j’espère nous aurons l’occasion de
vous montrer était une de mes dernières production à Little Bear, puisque je me suis associé à
Denis PONCET et Jean-Xavier DE LESTRADE au sein de MAHA Productions. Beaucoup de projets,
sont aujourd’hui à différents stade de la production bien aidé par le succès The Staircase une série
documentaire de 8x45’ MAHA que qui a été vendu à ce jour dans 27 pays.
Nous continuons à développer et à fabriquer en priorité des documentaires de société. Je profite de
cette newsletter pour vous faire part de ma recherche d’un coproducteur Belge pour
m’accompagner sur un 52’, autour du jeu pathologique.

After two years and half of work, WHITE TERROR directed by Daniel SCHWEIZER has been released
in the Swiss cinemas, continues its career through festivals (after Locarno, Florence, Séville...) and
will be diffused on Arte in 2006. This great experience of coproduction, which I hope we will have
the opportunity to show you was one of my last productions with Little Bear, since I have gone into
partnership with Denis PONCET and Jean-Xavier DE LESTRADE at MAHA Productions. A lot of
projects are today at different stadiums of the production, thanks to the success of The Staircase, a
serial of documentaries of 8x45’ MAHA which has been sold to date in 27 coutries.
We continue to develop and make up in priority documentaries of society. I take advantage of this
newletter to announce to you my research of a belgiam coproducer to accompany me in a 52’
around pathological gaming.

Bonjour,
j'espère que vous allez tous bien. Ici, en Suisse, c'est le froid qui arrive et plein de changement à la
tête des institutions (OFC).
Je serai peut-être à Amsterdam, pour le reste je serai au NIGER pour préparer le tournage de
Magic Radio qui se fera en février –mars 2006. Tout se passe bien, pas encore de corpo avec la
France, mais le financement suisse a bien avancé.
