Untitled - Fondation Gan pour le cinéma
The Gan Foundation Gan and its networks LA PAPESSE JEANNE directed by 2012 award winner Jean Breschand The Gan Foundation for Cinema is one of the two foundations of the Groupama Group, one of France’s largest insurance companies and whose societal commitment has over many years been its support for artistic creation. The Foundation is strongly linked to the identity of the Gan company (one of three within the Groupama Group) which accompanies those who “dare”, those who move forward. For almost 30 years the Foundation has been engaged alongside cinema entrepreneurs, and numerous young talented individuals have emerged thanks to its support. Indeed, the Gan Foundation is one of the principal private partners in French cinema, one which accompanies creators right up to the distribution of their works, thanks to the Aid for Creation and Aid for Distribution, which are its principal missions. Aid for Creation Gan’s involvement in cinema is far from new, and all the entities of the Gan insurance company* play a part. They can turn to the Foundation and a catalogue of films for the organization of public relations events, in the form of film screenings. These cinema evenings represent unique opportunities for Gan’s entities to invite their customers, partners and prospective clients, and also their staff, to enter a privileged environment that combines conviviality, pleasure and culture. *Gan Assurances, Gan Patrimoine, Gan Prévoyance and Gan Eurocourtage Collectives Aid for Distribution 54e SEMAINE DE LA CRITIQUE CANNES Each awarded film receives €53,000, of which €3,000 is for the director and €50,000 for the producer. This aid can be increased by a further €25,000 thanks to existing partnerships with Panavision Alga, specialized in the rental of filming equipment, and post-production company Mikros Image. Today, support from the Foundation is not only financial – it is also recognised as a mark of quality. À l’Espace Miramar du 14 au 22 mai 2015 With its Aid for Distribution, the Foundation offers its support for various festivals, whether this be in the form of financial assistance, the organisation of professional meetings or the award of a prize for distribution (€20,000 for the French distributor of a film or project that has been honoured by the Foundation). Avec le soutien de Photo par Jérôme Plon Shooting of LA LOI DE JUNGLE directed by 2014 award winner Antonin Peretjatko Aid for Creation consists of yearly awards given to four feature -length films (first or second film projects) which are selected on the basis of their screenplays, and also the attribution of a Special Prize. It is within this framework that the Foundation is a partner of the Angers First Film Festival, the Cannes International Critics’ Week, and the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Since 2014, the Foundation has provided aid for the distribution of: THE TRIBE by Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy, THE WAKHAN FRONT by Clément Cogitore, ADAMA by Simon Rouby and MY LIFE AS A ZUCCHINI by Claude Barras. The Foundation since 1987 Honorary president Costa-Gavras with 2008 award winner Katell Quillévéré The Foundation was created by Gan in 1987 during the 40th Cannes Film Festival. Costa-Gavras, then president of the Cinémathèque Française, provided the inspiration for the field of activity of what would become France’s leading company foundation dedicated to cinema, and he remains the Foundation’s honorary president. Today, the Foundation’s action is recognised to be essential, as illustrated by the numerous awards it has received, which include, on three occasions, France’s Oscar du Mécénat (Oscar for Patronage) and, in 2007, the French culture ministry’s Grand Mécène Gold Medal for patronage. In a few figures Alice Winocour, the Foundation’s 2016 patron of events Since its creation, the Foundation: R has studied more than 4,500 screenplays, R and provided aid for more than 170 first-film projects (including 12 Special Prize winners). The projects it has supported have won more than 200 distinctions in France and abroad, including 25 awards at the French cinema industry’s yearly César ceremonies, and 11 awards at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2015, the Gan Foundation became a major patron of the Cinémathèque Française. The Foundation is also proud to have supported the first films of Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro with DELICATESSEN, Bruno Dumont with THE LIFE OF JESUS, Mia Hansen-Løve with ALL IS FORGIVEN, Thomas Lilti with LES YEUX BANDÉS, Cyril Mennegun with LOUISE WIMMER, Alice Winocour with AUGUSTINE, Louis Garrel with TWO FRIENDS, and Uda Benyamina with BÂTARDE. Special Awards Accompanying filmmakers THE RED TURTLE by Michael Dudok de Wit In order to encourage the exposure of the most diverse forms of cinema, the Foundation attributes Special Awards to projects whose creation demonstrates notable ambition and originality. Among the 12 winners of the Foundation’s Special Awards are CAPTIVE OF THE DESERT by Raymond Depardon (1989), MICROCOSMOS by Claude Nuridsany and Marie Perennou (1992), WINGED MIGRATION by Jacques Perrin (1999), PERSEPOLIS by Marjane Satrapi (2004), LONG WAY NORTH by Rémi Chayé (2013), THE RED TURTLE by Michael Dudok de Wit, and MISTER WU by Patrick Zachmann. The scriptwriters taking part in LA SÉLECTION in 2015 The Foundation takes a long-term view of accompanying talent. It hands the stage to its award-winners during the RETOUR D’EXPÉRIENCE presentation at the Angers First Film Festival, an event at which a director and producer are invited to recount the adventure of making their first film. The Foundation also invites directors to present their film project to producers when they meet together during a unique yearly gathering in Paris called LA SÉLECTION, created in association with the residential scriptwriting centre Le Groupe Ouest.
