Le groupe Kuoni poursuit sa stratégie de
croissance.

groupe Kuoni.
Cruise Entertainment – Too
Much, Too Little or Just
Right?
London – September 29, 2008 – At one time a cruise holiday
might have included a piano bar, some form of evening cabaret
show and the optional games on deck. Today the choice of
onboard entertainment rivals, if not exceeds that of Las
Vegas. However, is it what holidaymakers want? The online
cruise news and reviews site, CruiseCritic.co.uk
(www.cruisecritic.co.uk), has just conducted a survey of more
than 2400 travellers from around the world to find out the
answer to this and other questions about fun onboard.
Entertainment is Key for Brits
While

think
76 percent of respondents from all nations said that
is the right amount of entertainment on board cruise
today, a significant 17 percent of British travellers
there is too much.
Seventy percent of all travellers said that they would be
selective about the cruise entertainment they experience.
Sixteen percent of British travellers said that they would
want to avoid most onboard entertainment.
More Brits (54 percent) than any other nationality taking part
in the survey said that the nature and amount of entertainment
onboard would be key criteria in selecting a particular cruise
holiday over another.
Party Pooper Poms
Brits may want to be entertained, but many don’t want to joinin. When asked whether they prefer to take part in group or
individual activities, 27 percent of British travellers said
they would not want to participate in any cruise activities!
No More Fancy Dress
When asked what type of cruise ship nightlife entertainment
appeals most, a comedian got the most votes (56 percent),
followed by a Broadway style show or musical (54 percent), and
then a band (52 percent). Least popular among the activities
listed was that one time cruise staple – the fancy dress ball.
A lot of the nighttime entertainment is often included in the
price of a cruise but when asked if they would be willing to
pay extra for their entertainment, 26 percent of respondents
said they would be okay with shelling out extra to see a
Broadway-style show or musical.
Splashing About
According to the survey results, the most popular daytime
cruise activities are water-based (59 percent), followed by a
spa treatments (56 percent) and then skill classes, such as
painting, pottery and cooking (46 percent). Playing in the
pool was selected as the activity children would like best (77
percent) followed by treasure/scavenger hunts (70 percent) and
video games/arcade (61 percent).
Pool Deck Activities Get the Thumbs Down
When it comes to action on and around the pool deck, it seems
that most cruise travellers want to be left alone. The
majority – 35 percent of all travellers and 47 percent of
British – said they would prefer no pool deck entertainment or
activities. Only 13 percent said that cruise-directed games
and contests on the pool deck appeal.
Too Much of a Good Thing
Said CruiseCritic.co.uk Editor in Chief Carolyn Spencer Brown,
“The cruise companies put a lot of money and effort into
providing entertainment for their passengers and it is
interesting to note how important this has become as a
selection criteria, especially among the Brits. Clearly
however, there cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach and
entertainment directors need to take account of national
tastes and preferences as well as age, family situation and so
forth.”

Traffic Slowdown Continues –
Asia Leads August decline
Hanoi – The International Air Transport Association (IATA)
released international traffic data for August that confirmed
a continuing downturn.
International passenger demand growth slowed to 1.3%,
following disappointing growth of 1.9% in July. Passenger load
factors fell to 79.2% a sharp drop-off from the 81% recorded
during the same period last year as capacity growth outpaced
demand.
International freight traffic saw its third consecutive month
of contraction with a 2.7% decline following drops of 1.9% in
July and 0.8% in June.
“Passenger traffic grew by 5.4% in the first half of the year.
That slowed to 1.9% in July and 1.3% in August. The contrast
between the first half of the year and the last two months is
stark,” said Giovanni Bisignani, IATA’s Director General and
CEO. “The slowdown has been so sudden that airlines can’t
adjust capacity quickly enough. While the drop in the oil
price is welcome relief on the cost side, fuel remains 30%
higher than a year ago. And with traffic growth continuing to
decline, the industry is still heading for a US$5.2 billion
loss this year.”
Air freight has declined for the past three months, led by
Asia Pacific carriers that posted a 6.5% decline in July and a
6.8% decline in August. “Airlines carry 35% by value of the
goods traded internationally. The three-month decline – led by
weakness in Asia-Pacific markets – is a clear indication that
global trade is slowing down. This shows that the impact of
the financial crisis is broad geographically and will worsen
before it gets better,” said Bisignani.
Passenger
* Asia Pacific carriers reported a 3.1% contraction, following
a 0.5% decline in July. Economic distortions surrounding the
Olympics in China and a weakening Japanese economic outlook
contributed to the decline. While some recovery in this weak
performance is expected in coming months, clearly the region’s
economies are feeling the impact of the turmoil in the
financial markets.
* Middle Eastern carriers saw traffic growth drop to 4.3%
following 5.3% in July and well below the 10.6% growth
recorded during the first 6 months of the year.
* In contrast, international passenger traffic carried by
North American airlines accelerated from 4.2% growth in July
to 5.2% in August, in Latin America from 8.1% to 11.9% and in
Europe from 1.3% to 1.6%.
* August is usually the second strongest month of the year,
but the 79.2% load factor achieved was 1.8% points lower than
last year although scheduled capacity is planned to slow very
sharply to the point where it barely grows by the end of the
year.
Cargo
* The 6.8% decline in international freight shipped by
carriers in the Asia Pacific region had the greatest impact as
they comprise 45% of the global air cargo markets.
* The other big market players also showed weakness. European
carriers experienced a 0.9% decline, while US carriers
reported weak growth of 0.8%.
* Sharp declines in freight traffic in Latin America (-13.2%)
reflect restructuring in Brazil with cuts in capacity.
“The industry crisis is deepening and no region is immune.
Urgent measures are needed. From taxation to charges and
operational efficiencies, all areas impacting the business
must be examined for ways to reduce costs and drive
efficiencies. It’s a matter of survival,” said Bisignani.
Bisignani noted significant progress in Brazil where a
Presidential approval for the removal of a fuel tax for
international flights was published on 26 September. “After a
two-year campaign, this is great news and the US$411 million
savings over the next four years could not be better timed.
The challenge is for other governments to follow Brazil’s
example, conform with global standards and free the industry
of crazy taxation. This is particularly true of India. Its
carriers will post the largest losses outside of the US –
US$1.5 billion this year – and they are being crippled by
enormous taxation on fuel, particularly in domestic markets,”
said Bisignani.

Een nacht in Casal Fornaro:
Brood en spelen op Malta
Amsterdam, 1 oktober 2008 – Op 11 oktober
ambachten. Qormi, destijds Casal Fornaro geheten, is weer één
Dramavoorstellingen, folklore

Reemerges as Coconut Grove

COCONUT GROVE, Fla., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ —
Blending New York influences with the tropical vibe of Miami,
the iconic Mayfair Hotel & Spa — poised in hip Coconut Grove —
unveils a new layer of haute with the Oct. 2 opening of
rooftop Cabana One Pool Club & Lounge and late October opening
of famed New York steakhouse Angelo & Maxie’s. Gaudi-inspired
design and an unpretentious ambience define this eclectic
enclave, complete with an orchid-filled, open-air atrium and
Japanese soaking tubs on private bougainvillea-covered
terraces.
Situated on the rooftop of the legendary Mayfair Hotel & Spa,
Cabana One Pool Club & Lounge is the vision of New York public
relations guru Ron Berkowitz and New York restaurateur Josh
Lebowitz. Enticing guests with panoramic views of Biscayne Bay
partnered with Gaudi-inspired design and an unpretentious
ambience, Cabana One is a chic, tropical escape from the
hustle and bustle of South Beach. Among the 7,000 square feet
of space, a floating cabana roof and planks of teakwood
comprise the bar area while a serpentine bench built into the
parapet winds around a fire feature and billowing white
curtains enclose eight private cabanas with L-shaped sofas,
flat screen TVs and private safes. Cabana One is also the only
club to offer Nintendo Wii centers coupled with high end
bottle service.
The famed New York steak house Angelo & Maxie’s opens its
second location at the Mayfair, replacing the current Ginger
Grove restaurant. Angelo & Maxie’s is known for its friendly
atmosphere, perfectly seasoned steaks and American abundance
at moderate prices. Reminiscent of an old Cuban sugar mill,
the restaurant features vintage stones, extensive millwork and
La Cantina doors that open up into the open-air atrium.
Additional updates at the Mayfair include lobby renovations. A
floating island reception desk located in a private enclave of
the lobby welcomes guests to Mayfair, while minimal lounge
furniture opens up the lobby, creating an overall inviting
space. To coincide with the design of Angelo & Maxie’s, the
extended lobby bar conveys the same mill and stonework,
recreating the sugar mill decor.
The Obadon Hotel Group, owned by real estate moguls, the
Schlesinger family, and based in Palm Beach, recently acquired
Mayfair Hotel & Spa. In less than two years, Obadon has added
four of the hottest South Florida properties to its portfolio,
including The Brazilian Court Hotel and The Omphoy Beach
Resort in Palm Beach and Mayfair Hotel & Spa and Traymore
Hotel in Miami.
With a single entry door set in an arched panel of richly
carved Honduran mahogany, Mayfair Hotel & Spa is an eclectic
Art Deco/Nouveau enclave with 179 suites, featuring Japanese
soaking tubs and chaise lounges on private alcoves. A fully
sustainable Jurlique Spa provides a holistic approach to

Nieuwe erfgoedwandelroute in
Veurne
achtergrondinformatie
geven
over
een
opmerkelijke
versterkingswerken.
15 erfgoedwandelroutes in West-Vlaanderen
erfgoedwandelroutes, één in elke badplaats.
