To aim higher than a Grade C, you need to aim for maximum accuracy. U Look at the verb endings in Guillaume’s second paragraph. When you are describing the characters and action in a film, you need to use the il/elle/ils/elles parts of the verb correctly, so make sure you know them. U Include the comparative (plus/moins + adjective + que …). Guillaume uses this to compare Spider-Man 3 with the other two Spider-Man films. U Also make sure you use the correct adjective agreement: masculine or feminine, singular or plural. Look for examples in Guillaume’s text. U Use depuis + the present tense to say how long you have been doing something, as Guillaume does in the first line. J’ai beaucoup aimé ce film parce qu’il est passionnant, romantique, drôle et triste en même temps. Il est plein d’action et les effets spéciaux sont superbes. La vedette du film est Tobey Maguire et il est excellent dans le rôle principal. Il est vraiment doué comme acteur. Le premier et le deuxième films de la série sont bien, mais, pour moi, le troisième est plus intéressant et plus émouvant que les autres. 2 Choose the correct answer: a, b or c. Follow-up activities allow students to revise key language before attempting their own assessment. To achieve a Grade C, you need to use connectives, adjectives and the three main tenses (present, perfect and future) correctly. U Include at least six connectives; look at those that Guillaume uses. U Look at the number of adjectives Guillaume uses to give his opinion of the film. U He uses the present tense to describe the plot of the film, the perfect tense to say when he watched it and that he liked it, plus aller + infinitive to say he is going to recommend the film to his friends. Grammar Practice Book (.AZ[jijgVcig^Zjg I]Z[jijgZeZg[ZXi The future perfect refers to an action or event in the future which will have happened before another action or event, e.g. Quand il arrivera en France, il aura déjà trouvé un emploi. (When he arrives in France he will already have found a job.) A2 October Remember that, whereas in English ‘when’ referring to the future is followed by the present tense, in French the future tense is used to express future actions after quand. See p. 54 to revise the use of the future after quand. With a month-by-month structure and plenty of support activities, students can revise and reinforce grammar knowledge and understanding throughout AS and A2 and can work towards getting better exam results. Sometimes the future perfect is translated by the perfect tense in English, e.g. Il cherchera un emploi quand il aura finii son apprentissage. (He will look for a job when he has finished (will have finished) his apprenticeship.) In this case you have to think carefully about the meaning of the sentence to make sure you choose the correct French tense. The future perfect is a compound tense and follows the same rules as the perfect tense for the choice of the auxiliary verb, the agreement of the past participle and the position of the verb in the sentence (negative, adverbs, etc.). The only difference is that the auxiliary verb is in the future tense. Revise pp. 20 and 23 to make sure you know which auxiliary verb to use, how to make the past participle agree and the position of adverbs. finir aller s’inscrire j’aurai fini je serai allé(e) je me serai inscrit(e) tu auras fini tu seras allé(e) tu te seras inscrit(e) il/elle/on aura fini il/elle on sera allé(e) il/elle/on se sera inscrit(e) nous aurons fini nous serons allé(e)s nous nous serons inscrit(e)s vous aurez fini vous serez allé(e)(s) vous vous serez inscrit(e)(s) ils/elles auront fini ils/elles seront allé(e)s ils/elles se seront inscrit(e)s In subordinate clauses beginning with conjunctions such as quand, lorsque, dès que and aussitôt que the future perfect denotes that the action will have been completed before the action of the main clause. Next year half will do Spanish, half German and so on. It sounds complicated but we find it works well and all languages are equal. Good range of materials We’ve been using ¡Mira! for four years now. We chose it because it’s up to date and we felt it would be easy to use. What do I like best about the course? There’s a good range of materials with a variety of exercises on each double page. The songs are great – they’re fun and accessible. I also like the extra Gramatica and Te toca a ti sections. It is fun and easy teach from and good for cover work too. Basically, I love ¡Mira!. Excellent progression 32 Our pupils really like it too – it’s fun, modern and colourful. I think the layout makes it easy for them to find their own way around – the grammar boxes and key language are clearly labelled. Our pupils have made excellent progress because they’re able to use previous learning and build on it well. It’s also at the right level for them and it’s not too repetitive. Flexible support for differentiation The Rojo and Verde books, and the ¡Mira! Express books enable us to choose the right book for a particular class. Plus, the extra material in Workbooks, exercises in the textbook, Gramatica sheets etc, allow us to differentiate to suit the class that we’re teaching. Hold pupils’ interest right through to GCSE! ¡Mira! 3 is much better suited to our year 9 pupils than older courses we’ve used, as it’s not too hard and is much more interesting for them. I think they’re much more likely to take Spanish at GCSE now. Also, we are now using ¡Mira! GCSE in Year 10. What we love most about ¡Mira! 1. Fun 2. Easy to teach and learn from 3. Pupils make excellent progress. “Basically, I love ¡Mira!” Spanish 11–14 1 and 2 The tried-and-tested Spanish course for all your pupils ¡Listos! combines a lively, topic-based approach with clear grammatical progression. It’s so popular because it: O caters for all abilities – with differentiated Workbooks in the first year of learning Spanish, followed by separate Higher and Foundation Pupil Books in the second O boosts pupils’ grammar skills – with clear, relevant grammar activities throughout the Pupil Books authors O is easy to use – with easy-to-follow books and comprehensive teacher support!
