lots of photographs makes the
book engaging for pupils.
Every unit in Studio has a grammar
objective supported by activities
and clear explanations.

Je suis fan des bandes dessinées «Spider-Man» depuis
que je suis petit et j’adore aussi les films de Spider-Man.
Samedi dernier, je suis resté à la maison et j’ai regardé
Spider-Man 3 à la télé. C’était génial! C’est le troisième
film de la série et à mon avis, c’est le meilleur.

on the specification,

To aim higher than a Grade C, you need to aim for maximum accuracy.
U Look at the verb endings in Guillaume’s second paragraph. When you are describing the characters and
action in a film, you need to use the il/elle/ils/elles parts of the verb correctly, so make sure you know
them.
U Include the comparative (plus/moins + adjective + que …). Guillaume uses this to compare
Spider-Man 3 with the other two Spider-Man films.
U Also make sure you use the correct adjective agreement: masculine or feminine, singular or plural.
Look for examples in Guillaume’s text.
U Use depuis + the present tense to say how long you have been doing something, as Guillaume does in
the first line.
J’ai beaucoup aimé ce film parce qu’il est passionnant, romantique, drôle et triste en
même temps. Il est plein d’action et les effets spéciaux sont superbes. La vedette du film
est Tobey Maguire et il est excellent dans le rôle principal. Il est vraiment doué comme
acteur. Le premier et le deuxième films de la série sont bien, mais, pour moi, le troisième
est plus intéressant et plus émouvant que les autres.
2 Choose the correct answer: a, b or c.
Follow-up activities allow
students to revise key
language before attempting
their own assessment.
To achieve a Grade C, you need to use connectives, adjectives and the three main tenses (present, perfect
and future) correctly.
U Include at least six connectives; look at those that Guillaume uses.
U Look at the number of adjectives Guillaume uses to give his opinion of the film.
U He uses the present tense to describe the plot of the film, the perfect tense to say when he watched it
and that he liked it, plus aller + infinitive to say he is going to recommend the film to his friends.
Dans ce film, Peter Parker (c’est la vraie identité de
Spider-Man) veut se marier avec sa petite copine, Mary
Jane (rôle interprété par Kirsten Dunst), mais, bien sûr,
ils ont des problèmes! D’abord, Spider-Man est attaqué par
une substance noire qui change son caractère et le rend plus agressif. Ensuite, son ancien
copain, Harry, veut le tuer pour se venger de la mort de son père. Puis Spider-Man doit
combattre deux ennemis qui menacent New York: Sandman, un homme de sable qui a tué
l’oncle de Peter Parker, et Venom, un méchant qui ressemble à Spider-Man et qui possède
des pouvoirs dangereux. Finalement, Spider-Man réussit à vaincre ses ennemis, avec
l’assistance de Harry, mais malheureusement, Harry est tué par Venom. Cependant, tout
finit bien pour Peter et Mary Jane, qui sont toujours amoureux.

In an ideal world, within 100 years we will have forgotten what the word ‘racism’ means.
We will have erased any trace of racial discrimination. We will have agreed to respect each other.
As soon as we have learnt to appreciate diversity, we will make progress.
When we have established the principles for living together, we will have succeeded.
I really hope that in 100 years, tolerance and equality will have won.

The future perfect refers to an action or event in the future which will have happened before another
action or event, e.g. Quand il arrivera en France, il aura déjà trouvé un emploi. (When he arrives in
France he will already have found a job.)
A2 October
Remember that, whereas in English ‘when’ referring to the future is followed by the present tense, in
French the future tense is used to express future actions after quand. See p. 54 to revise the use of the
future after quand.
With a month-by-month
structure and plenty of
support activities, students
can revise and reinforce
grammar knowledge and
understanding throughout AS
and A2 and can work towards
getting better exam results.
Sometimes the future perfect is translated by the perfect tense in English, e.g. Il cherchera un emploi
quand il aura finii son apprentissage. (He will look for a job when he has finished (will have finished)
his apprenticeship.) In this case you have to think carefully about the meaning of the sentence to
make sure you choose the correct French tense.
The future perfect is a compound tense and follows the same rules as the perfect tense for the
choice of the auxiliary verb, the agreement of the past participle and the position of the verb in
the sentence (negative, adverbs, etc.). The only difference is that the auxiliary verb is in the future
tense. Revise pp. 20 and 23 to make sure you know which auxiliary verb to use, how to make the past
participle agree and the position of adverbs.

He will look for a job as soon as he has finished (he will have finished) his apprenticeship.

O a wealth of activities with an emphasis on stories, non-fiction, games and songs, recorded by native
French speakers
O clear and structured planning, with all the resources and materials you could possibly need. Plus, it’s
customisable so you can adapt it too!
O built-in assessment and differentiation, so you can show measurable progress for all your pupils.

Spanish 11–14
¡Mira! is great to teach with and
fun for pupils - find out why…
School: Brookfield Community School, Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Pupils: 1340, 11–18-year-olds
Teacher: Angela Walker, Assistant Head of Modern Languages
Our school has a rolling programme for languages
so this year, 2009–10, half the year group do
Spanish, half French. Next year half will do Spanish,
half German and so on. It sounds complicated but
we find it works well and all languages are equal.
Good range of materials
We’ve been using ¡Mira! for four years now. We
chose it because it’s up to date and we felt it
would be easy to use. What do I like best about
the course? There’s a good range of materials with
a variety of exercises on each double page. The
songs are great – they’re fun and accessible. I also
like the extra Gramatica and Te toca a ti sections. It
is fun and easy teach from and good for cover work
too. Basically, I love ¡Mira!.
Excellent progression
32
Our pupils really like it too – it’s fun, modern and
colourful. I think the layout makes it easy for them
to find their own way around – the grammar boxes
and key language are clearly labelled. Our pupils
have made excellent progress because they’re
able to use previous learning and build on it well.
It’s also at the right level for them and it’s not too
repetitive.
Flexible support for
differentiation
The Rojo and Verde books, and the ¡Mira!
Express books enable us to choose the right book
for a particular class. Plus, the extra material in
Workbooks, exercises in the textbook, Gramatica
sheets etc, allow us to differentiate to suit the class
that we’re teaching.
Hold pupils’ interest right
through to GCSE!
¡Mira! 3 is much better suited to our year 9 pupils
than older courses we’ve used, as it’s not too
hard and is much more interesting for them. I think
they’re
much more likely to take Spanish at GCSE now.
Also, we are now using ¡Mira! GCSE in Year 10.
What we love most about ¡Mira!
1. Fun
2. Easy to teach and learn from
3. Pupils make excellent progress.
“Basically, I love ¡Mira!”
