Conseil d’administration
Dr Jacques Lévesque,
président de la CAR
Le Dr Jacques Lévesque a complété sa
formation médicale en 1975. Suite à
la réception du diplôme en radiologie
diagnostique en 1981 à l’Université
McGill, Montréal, Québec, il a travaillé
à l’Hôpital St-François d’Assise, Ville
de Québec, Québec (1981–1991) et
au Centre hospitalier de l’Université
Laval, Ste-Foy, Québec (1991–1994).
De 1998 à 2004, le Dr Lévesque a été
chef du département de radiologie du Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec (CHUQ). Il est présentement professeur
clinique de radiologie à l’Université Laval et président/
copropriétaire de la Clinique radiologique de la Capitale,
Ville de Québec.
Impliqué au niveau de l’implantation des nouvelles technologies dans sa région et dans la province, le Dr Lévesque
est responsable de la mise en œuvre du dossier PACS pour
les 52 établissements du RUIS Laval. Il est également actif
dans le processus des achats regroupés en haute technologie
médicale dont le budget s’élève à 315 millions de dollars.
Il est responsable de l’évaluation clinique et technique de
l’équipement proposé.
Depuis 1993, le Dr Lévesque siège au conseil d’administration
de l’Association des radiologistes du Québec (ARQ), où il a été
secrétaire, puis premier vice-président. Il a été particulièrement actif avec les dossiers de mammographie (implantation
du PQDCS), d’ostéodensitométrie, des nouvelles technologies
ainsi que des négociations de taux.
Le Dr Lévesque est marié et père de six enfants : deux filles
et quatre garçons.
Dr. Jacques Lévesque,
President of the CAR
Dr. Jacques Lévesque completed his medical education
in 1975. After he graduated in diagnostic radiology at
McGill University in Montreal, Quebec in 1981, he worked
at the Hôpital St-François d’Assise in Quebec City, Quebec
(1981–1991) and at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université
Laval in Ste-Foy, Quebec (1991–1994). From 1998 to 2004,
Dr. Lévesque was Chief of the department of radiology at the
Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec (CHUQ). He is
currently a clinical professor in radiology at the Université
Laval and President and co-owner of the Clinique
radiologique de la Capitale in Quebec City.
Involved in the establishment of new technologies in his
region and in the province, Dr. Lévesque is responsible for
the implementation of PACS for all 52 establishments of
the RUIS Laval. He is also active in the shared procurement
process for advanced medical technology with a budget of
$315 million. He oversees the clinical and technical evaluation of the recommended equipment.
Since 1993, Dr. Lévesque has been on the Board of Directors
of L’Association des radiologistes du Québec (ARQ) where he
was a Secretary, then First Vice-President. He was particularly active in mammography projects (establishment of the
PQDCS), BMD, new technologies as well as fee negotiations.
Dr. Lévesque is married and is the father of six children:
two girls and four boys.
As a CAR Board member, Dr. Lévesque wishes to uphold
radiologists’ rights as medical imaging specialists in Canada
and ensure that their professional autonomy and their
claims for a modern practice in radiology are respected.

Dr. James D. Fraser,
Past President of
the CAR
Dr. Fraser is Professor of Radiology
and Cardiology at Dalhousie University
in Halifax, Nova Scotia and a cardiac
radiologist at the QEII Health Sciences
Centre. Dr. Fraser did his radiology
residency training at the University of
British Columbia. After his graduation
in 1991, he worked for one year in
Fredericton, New Brunswick as a general and interventional
radiologist. He then undertook a fellowship in body imaging
at Dalhousie University and at Brigham and Women’s Hospital
in Boston, followed by cardiac imaging training at Dalhousie
University.
Dr. William D. Miller,
President Elect of
the CAR
Dr. William (Willie) Miller is currently
Deputy Chief and Chair of Diagnostic
Imaging at The Ottawa Hospital, after
being Interim Chief and Chair from
2006–2008. He is also an Assistant
Professor at the University of Ottawa.
He was Chief Neuroradiologist at The
Ottawa Hospital from 2001–2006 and
Director of MRI at The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus since
2001. In 2000, he initiated and developed the Neuroradiology
Fellowship training program at The Ottawa Hospital.
Dr. Emil Lee,
Vice-President
of the CAR
Dr. Emil Lee is a community radiologist with the Valley Medical Imaging
group in the Fraser Valley, east of
Vancouver, BC. He is currently head of
the Department of Medical Imaging of
Langley Memorial Hospital and Past
President of the BC Radiological Society
and the BCMA Section of Radiology,
having served as President from 2010–2012. He has been a
member of, and continues to serve on, many provincial, health
authority and local committees.

Dr. Fraser is Past President of the Nova Scotia Association
of Radiologists and previous CAR Council member. He has
been on the editorial board of the journal Radiology as well
as on the Board of Chancellors of the American College of
Radiology.
Married with three children, he enjoys outdoor activities
with a particular love of water sports, such as water skiing,
kayaking, windsurfing, and sailing.
Dr. Fraser’s goal is to help guide the CAR to become a strong,
proactive association which is relevant and valuable to its
members, government and the public. He hopes to help
ensure that all the various interests in its membership and
other important stakeholders are considered and consulted
as the CAR develops policies and determines the future
direction of the association.
Dr. Miller graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the
University of Manitoba. He completed a rotating internship
at McGill University in Montreal, then went on to practice as
a family physician for 13 years before returning to complete
a 4-year radiology residency at the University of Missouri.
He completed his training with a 2-year neuroradiology
fellowship at the University of Toronto. He has been practicing
neuroradiology in Ottawa since 1999.
Dr. Miller’s current areas of interest include: quality,
radiation safety, clinical decision support rules and appropriateness of diagnostic imaging, how to manage ballooning
healthcare costs, particularly from an imaging point of view,
as well as the gamut of diagnostic neuroradiology.
He attended the University of British Columbia for medical
school and his diagnostic radiology residency. After completing a fellowship in interventional radiology at the University
of Iowa, he returned to BC.
His outside interests include travel, running, scuba diving,
karate, skiing and debating with his wife and two children.
Dr. Lee is excited to join as a new member of the Board and
to learn from his colleagues across the country. He hopes
that he can bring some of his experience as a provincial
leader to our national organization to help navigate upcoming challenges to the specialty in Canada, increase the profile
of radiology on the national scene and strengthen the role of
radiology in medicine.

Dr. Robert Abraham
Dr. Robert (Bob) Abraham has been a
practicing clinician and interventional
radiologist (IR) in Halifax for over
15 years. He obtained his medical
degree at Dalhousie in 1987, where he
returned for specialty training in diagnostic imaging from 1988–1992 after
completing his rotating internship at
St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. He
subsequently completed subspecialty
training in IR at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia
in 1993. He is currently an associate professor at Dalhousie
University’s Medical School.
Dr. Abraham’s expertise covers all aspects of IR but his
primary interests are in angioplasty / intravascular stenting
for peripheral vascular disease, embolization, endovascular
Dr. Bruce Berscheid
Dr. Bruce Berscheid is currently Site
Head of the Department of Medical
Imaging at St. Paul’s Hospital in
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He completed medical school at the University
of Saskatchewan and his residency in
diagnostic radiology at Saskatoon’s
Royal University Hospital. In 1985,
he joined Associated Radiologists
in Saskatoon where he continues to
practice. With a special interest in
Dr. S. Nimu Ganguli
Dr. Nimu Ganguli is the Director
of Nuclear Medicine at the William
Osler Health Centre–Brampton Civic
Hospital in Brampton, Ontario.
Dr. Ganguli has practiced radiology
and nuclear medicine since 1999,
initially as an academic radiologist at
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre,
and currently in a busy community
practice at the newly built state-of-the-art Brampton Civic
Hospital. He is active in the Greater Toronto Area nuclear
medicine community in delivering nuclear medicine services
to several independent healthcare facilities.

treatment of complex aortic aneurysms and uterine fibroid
embolization (UFE).
Dr. Abraham has a track record of previously licensed catheter innovations. His projects in innovation in IR include
co-invention of a novel radiopaque embolic agent. He
co-founded ABK Biomedical Inc., a start-up company engaged
in research and development of innovative next-generation
embolotherapeutic products and delivery devices for the
treatment of uterine fibroids, hypervascularized tumors and
arteriovenous malformations.
Dr. Abraham is the Chief Examiner for the RCPSC examination in diagnostic radiology. He is also a board member on
the Canadian Interventional Radiology Association (CIRA),
program Chair for the 2013 CIRA annual scientific meeting
in Halifax, and he will be appointed CIRA President-Elect in
June 2013.

interventional radiology. He has been active on many committees and boards.
He is married to Barbara and has three adult children.
He loves the outdoors and has a passion for fishing.
As a Board member, he hopes to ensure that the CAR is
a strong, relevant and respected national voice, not only
within the “house of radiology”, but within the broader medical community and for all Canadians.
His current professional interests lie in the areas of cardiac
imaging, including nuclear cardiology, cardiac CT and PET
CT in oncology.
He is married and has a 15-year-old son. His outside interests include wine collecting, gourmet cooking, travelling
and swimming. As a board member, he hopes to increase
the interest of the CAR in Ontario and serve as a liaison
between radiologists in Ontario and the rest of Canada so
as to strengthen the radiologists’ professional role in both
the medical community and in the public domain.

Dr. Scott Harris
Dr. Scott Harris is currently working as an Associate Professor in
Diagnostic Imaging and as Site Chief
for Cardiothoracic Imaging at the
Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s,
Newfoundland. In addition, he is the
Vice-President of the Newfoundland
and Labrador Association of
Radiologists.
Dr. Daniel Lindsay
Dr. Daniel Lindsay received his medical degree from the University of
Manitoba and is a Fellow of the Royal
College of Physicians and Surgeons
of Canada. He worked in urban and
rural, as well as in academic and
non-academic environments. He has
an active staff appointment at the
Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg,
and is the medical director of diagnostic imaging at multiple rural hospitals in Manitoba.
Dr. Lindsay served on the newly established Doctors Manitoba
Strategic Planning Task Force. He is currently President Elect
of The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Manitoba with
his term as President beginning in June 2013. He is the current Diagnostic Imaging Consultant to the Manitoba Quality
Assurance Program. He is a Past President of The Manitoba
Association of Radiologists, and has served on the Board of
multiple community service organizations.
Dr. Lindsay has been a vocal proponent for the acquisition of
appropriate diagnostic imaging equipment and for the development of competency assessment tools now in use in Manitoba.
His commitment and continued support to the medical community, particularly to the diagnostic community, has been
recognized by his colleagues, earning him the prestigious
Doctor of the Year Award in 2012 from Doctors Manitoba.
Dr. Lindsay was the sole radiologist at the Canadian
military-run trauma hospital in Kandahar during five
deployments. He received several medals of distinction,
rarely awarded to civilians, for his work in Afghanistan.
Dr. Lindsay is a proponent of ongoing professional education
and competency assessment. He lives in a bilingual province
and works actively at perfecting his French. With a reputation
for promoting an open-door policy and consistently supporting
all hospital physicians, he encourages the active participation
of radiologists in a collaborative team approach with the goal
of exceptional patient care.

In 2007, Dr. Harris completed a radiology residency at
Memorial University and subsequently completed a cardiac
imaging fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota
the following year. After returning to Newfoundland, he has
been actively involved in the development of a cardiac imaging program, as well as the residency program through both
the selection committee and the development of the cardiothoracic component of the curricula.
Dr. Harris is happy to continue as a member of the Board
and to work with colleagues from across the country to
strengthen the role of imaging in healthcare.
Dr Daniel Lindsay
Le Dr Daniel Lindsay a reçu son diplôme de médecine de
l’Université du Manitoba et est associé du Collège royal des
médecins et chirurgiens du Canada. Son expérience s’étend
aux milieux urbain et rural, ainsi qu’universitaire et non
universitaire. Il travaille au Centre des Sciences de la Santé
à Winnipeg et est directeur médical de l’imagerie diagnostique à plusieurs hôpitaux ruraux du Manitoba.
Le Dr Lindsay a servi au nouveau Doctors Manitoba Strategic
Planning Task Force. Il est président élu du Collège des médecins
et chirurgiens du Manitoba et sera le président à compter de juin
2013. Il est consultant en imagerie diagnostique au Programme
d’assurance de la qualité du Manitoba. Il est ancien président
de la Manitoba Association of Radiologists, et a siégé au conseil
de plusieurs organismes de services communautaires.
Le Dr Lindsay a été un ardent promoteur pour l’acquisition
d’équipement d’imagerie diagnostique approprié et pour
l’élaboration d’outils d’évaluation des compétences actuellement en pratique au Manitoba. Son engagement et son soutien
continu de la communauté médicale, en particulier la communauté diagnostique, a été reconnu par ses collègues et lui a valu
le prestigieux prix « Docteur de l’année » en 2012 de Médecins
du Manitoba.
À titre de radiologiste unique à l’hôpital canadien de traumatismes militaires à Kandahar pendant cinq déploiements, il a
reçu plusieurs médailles de distinction, rarement décernées
à des civils, pour son travail en Afghanistan.
Le Dr Lindsay est un partisan de la formation professionnelle
continue et de l’évaluation des compétences. Il vit dans une
province bilingue et travaille activement à perfectionner
son français. Avec son attitude de réceptivité et son soutien
inébranlable de tous les médecins en milieu hospitalier, il
encourage la participation active des radiologistes dans une
approche collaborative avec l’objectif des soins exceptionnels
aux patients.

Dr. Andrew C. Mason
Dr. Andrew Mason is currently a staff
radiologist in the Medical Imaging
Department at Ridge Meadows Hospital,
Maple Ridge, British Columbia.
After having completed his radiology
residency training at the John Radcliffe
Hospital in Oxford, United Kingdom,
Dr. Mason went on to complete a oneyear thoracic imaging fellowship and
a further year as an assistant professor at the University of
Maryland in Baltimore. In 1995, he became the head of the
Thoracic Radiology section at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver,
Dr. Neety Panu
Dr. Neety Panu attended medical
school at the University of Toronto
and did her radiology training at the
University of Saskatchewan.
She pursued a women’s imaging fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancer Center in New York City. Prior
to joining this fellowship, she was a
diagnostic radiologist for two years
at the Regional Health Sciences Centre, which included a busy
community practice and teaching family medicine to residents
and medical students in Northwestern Ontario. Although the
fellowship provided her with expertise in women’s imaging
and oncological imaging, she hopes to evolve a practice
involving all aspects of our diverse speciality.

British Columbia, before moving to his current position in
2002. He has also completed a mini-fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging and is interested in MSK ultrasound. He was
a Royal College examiner in 1999–2000. He is currently the
Board Chair for the CAR.
Dr. Mason is engaged in local projects addressing the interface
between family practice and radiology in terms of utilization
and appropriateness. As a community radiologist, he enjoys
the challenge of working with the CAR to help all radiologists
deliver timely and relevant imaging or image-guided therapy
to every Canadian. Dr. Mason is married and has two children.
In her spare time, Dr. Panu is an avid competitive ultra
marathoner. She is equally at ease with cross-country skiing
in the winter and enjoys long-distance trekking and hiking
around the globe.
As a Board member of the CAR, Dr. Panu is excited to be
involved in our national radiology organization. She endeavours to be involved in strengthening and enabling the CAR to
be at the forefront of our speciality and enabling radiologists
to remain as the specialists in medical imaging. She also has
a special interest in the development and implementation of
guidelines in our speciality to allow for “across the board”
standardization. Finally, as a recent graduate, she wants to
incorporate more educational related activities specifically
directed towards residents.

Dr. Laurence
Péloquin
Dr. Laurence Péloquin obtained
her medical diploma from McGill
University in 2002. Following her
residency training at the Université
de Montréal, she completed her
fellowship training in breast and
body imaging at Memorial SloanKettering Cancer Center in New York.
In July 2008, she joined the Radiology Department at the
Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) in
both the breast and abdominal imaging sections. Actively
involved in teaching, whether as member of the Université
de Montréal radiology teaching program committee, in
everyday practice or in the residents’ preparation for the
Canadian examination, she was also named pedagogical
leader with the mandate to review and improve evaluation
criteria and methods for radiology residents.
Her principal field of interest is oncologic imaging, particularly gynaecological and genitourinary imaging. She is
involved with interdisciplinary teams in multiple projects,
her latest of which aims to modify computed tomography
protocols in oncologic patients to reduce radiation dosage
to patients.
The elder of eight siblings, Dr. Péloquin is a team worker and
enjoys being a Board member to carry through projects that
are deemed important by the members of the Association.
Her personal pursuits includes playing the violin, cycling,
cross-country skiing and taking cooking classes, especially
international cuisine.
Dr. Michael
Rivers-Bowerman
Dr. Michael (Mike) Rivers-Bowerman
is currently a second-year radiology
resident at Dalhousie University. He
completed an undergraduate degree in
biophysics at the University of British
Columbia in 2005, receiving a Rhodes
scholarship in his final year.
As a graduate student at Corpus
Christi College, University of Oxford from 2005–2007, he
obtained a master’s degrees in diagnostic imaging and
surgery from the Nuffield Department of Surgery while

Dre Laurence Péloquin
La Dre Laurence Péloquin obtient son diplôme de médecine
de l’Université McGill en 2002. Elle complète par la suite
sa résidence en radiologie diagnostique à l’Université de
Montréal avant d’entreprendre une année de surspécialisation en imagerie mammaire et abdominale oncologique au
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center de New York.
Depuis juillet 2008, la Dre Péloquin est membre active du
service de radiologie du Centre hospitalier de l’Université de
Montréal (CHUM) dans la section d’imagerie abdominale et
mammaire. Impliquée dans l’enseignement comme membre
du comité pédagogique, elle est également nommée leader
pédagogique avec un mandat précis de revoir et d’améliorer
les méthodes et critères d’évaluation des résidents du
programme de radiologie.
Son intérêt principal est l’imagerie oncologique, en particulier
l’imagerie gynéco-oncologique et génito-urinaire, domaines
dans lesquels elle participe activement à des projets interdisciplinaires avec les autres spécialités médicales (radio-oncologie
ainsi que les services d’oncologie médicale et de chirurgie).
Elle travaille actuellement avec ses collègues à modifier les
protocoles de tomodensitométrie pour les patients
oncologiques afin de réduire les doses d’irradiation.
Aînée d’une famille de huit enfants, la Dre Péloquin est une
personne d’équipe et est heureuse d’être membre du Conseil
afin de mener à terme les projets qui sont jugés primordiaux
par les membres de l’association. Violoniste, elle est une
adepte du vélo et de ski de fond. Elle adore voyager et prendre
des cours de cuisine, surtout de cuisine internationale.

University’s Blues basketball team. He subsequently returned
to Vancouver for medical training where he received a medical degree from the University of British Columbia in 2011.
Dr. Rivers-Bowerman has co-authored articles which have
appeared in Clinical Radiology and European Radiology and
has presented research on dual-energy CT and CT urography
at the RSNA. He is excited to join the 2013–2014 CAR Board
and looks forward to working with the national resident
body to assist the CAR in furthering their educational and
professional objectives. He lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia with
his wife and their young son.

Dr. Robert Sevick
Dr. Robert (Rob) Sevick is a professor of
radiology and clinical neurosciences and
Head of the Department of Radiology,
Faculty of Medicine, University of
Calgary. He is also Medical Director
of Diagnostic Imaging for the Calgary
Zone of Alberta Health Services.
He obtained his medical degree
from the University of Alberta in 1984. This was followed
by a rotating internship at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto,
residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Calgary
Dr. Jana Taylor
Dr. Jana Taylor is originally from
Sheffield Mills, Nova Scotia, and
has been a practicing thoracic and
abdominal radiology at the McGill
University Health Centre (MUHC)
in Montreal since 2005. She is also
an Assistant Professor at McGill
University. She completed her medical school and residency training at
McGill, followed by fellowships in
thoracic imaging at the Massachusetts General Hospital and
in abdominal imaging at the McGill University Health Centre.
Lung cancer screening with low-dose CT is a particular area
of interest. Dr. Taylor is the principal investigator for the
Montreal site of the International Early Lung Cancer Action
Project (I-ELCAP) and is currently the chairperson of the
2013–2014 | Board of Directors | Conseil d’administration
and two years of fellowship training in neuroradiology at the
University of California, San Francisco. He has been in practice
in Calgary since 1991.
Dr. Sevick is best known for his contributions to neuroradiology and MR imaging. He has served in a number of
leadership roles in radiology and neuroradiology, both locally
and nationally, including Chair of the Examination Board in
Diagnostic Radiology for the Royal College of Physicians and
Surgeons of Canada. He is currently Chair of the Specialty
Committee in Neuroradiology. He is a member and former
Chair of the Canadian Heads of Academic Radiology.

Dr. Taylor is an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians
and Surgeons of Canada, as well as the Director of the
Thoracic Imaging Fellowship program at the MUHC and the
resident coordinator for the Montreal General Hospital. In the
past, she has served as the editor-in-chief and executive officer of the Board of Directors of the McGill Journal of Medicine.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Taylor enjoys travel, cooking, music
and reading. She is married with one daughter, age 9. She has
been very pleased to be a member of the Board of the CAR
since April 2010. Dr. Taylor would like to work to promote
the role of the radiologist as a crucial member and leader of
the healthcare team and to continue and promote the CAR’s
excellent work in lifelong learning for its residents, fellows
and practicing members.
