China in the 20th Century: having only recently opened up to
the Western world after its conversion to a mixed economy,
China still preserves its historical heritage and tradition. The
20th century has witnessed the struggle and changeover
between two Chinas: one continental and rural enshrined by
the Empire and Confucianism (the yellow China), the other
coastal, urban and mercantile, based on maritime trade (China
blue).
A vision of China yesterday versus China today. China Yellow,
China Blue. The making of the film required a long, intensive
period seeking out every possible source of footage in China
or elsewhere and benefits from the collaboration of some of
the world's most prominent sinologists.
