Sun Youth Soccer Vendredi le 27 mars, deux équipes de Gardenview nous ont représenté au tournoi Sun Youth à l'école Laurenhill. Six écoles de la Commission Scolaire English-Montréal ont participé pour la coupe. L'une de nos équipes a remporté les grands honneurs de la finale 1 à 0 contre l’ecole Dante. Félicitations aux élèves de nos deux équipes particulièrement à notre gardien de but Victor Barakett qui fût le joueur de la partie et ainsi que Alexandre Cattapan pour son but victorieux. Un gros merci à M. Luc Pepin pour son beau travail! Tournoi de hockey Gardenview vs. Gerald McShane Pour une 5ième année de suite, Gardenview à remporté les grands honneurs du tournoi de hockey cosom de la commission scolaire English-Montréal tenue à l'école Gerald McShane le 11 avril. Superbe performance de nos jeunes hockeyeurs avec 3 victoires, 1 défaite et 1 nulle. Mentions honorables à Victoria Caucci et Kyle Coté pour l'ensemble de leur jeu. Un gros merci encore une fois à M. Luc pour son dévouement. Halo Race On May 14th, over 50 runners from cycle III attended the annual Halo Run event. Over 4000 students from public and private schools in Montreal participated in the 2-km GMAA event held at Beaver Lake. We congratulate all our runners, particularly Giuliano Valiante for his second place win (winning the silver medal). Writing Contest Winners Ms. Wong’s grade 6 class (Rm 21) entered the Quebec Federation of Home and School Association’s Essay Contest: Famous Family Recipes Essay. We congratulate the 2nd prize winner Diego Caporuscio ($50 Chapters gift card) on his essay on Family Reunion Lasagna. Diego’s essay will be published in the fall issue of the QFHSA NEWS and on the QFHSA website under Essay Contests/ Famous Family Recipes/ Winning essays 2015. Ms. Wong’s class will also receive a $50 Chapters gift card. In the Quebec Federation of Home and School Association’s Essay Contest: Family Treasures Essay Competition that Ms. Wong also entered with her class (Rm 21), the 1st prize went to Isabella Leo ($100 Chapters gift card) for her story about The Gold Watch and 2nd prize went to Christopher Sedra ($50 Chapters gift card) for his story Shaving Kit. The winning essays will be featured in the summer issue of the QFHSA News. Ms. Wong’s class will also receive a $150 Chapters gift card. Ms. Wong’s grade 5 class (Rm 21) and 6 class (Rm 24) also entered the 2015 QAHN Heritage Essay Contest. We are pleased to announce that out of 100 participants from various schools, Gardenview was awarded the top three prizes. The 1st Prize ($150 with certificate) went to Noa Goldberg for her story Bessie Goldberg, the 2nd Prize ($125 with certificate) went to Lacey Baillairgé for her story Charles Baillairgé, and the 3rd Prize ($100 with certificate) went to Pauline Kollias for her story Greek Orthodox Church. We congratulate Ms. Wong and the students from rooms 21 and 24 for their excellent work. You have made us very proud! Grade 6 Graduation The Grade 6 graduation ceremony will be held at the Vanier College Auditorium on Monday, June 22nd at 5:00 p.m. Following the ceremony, students are invited back to school where they will be treated to dinner and a dance in their honor. Parents will pick up their children from school no later than 9:30 p.m. Dress-Down Day for Allergy Awareness I am pleased to announce that $1600 was collected on Friday, May 29th during our dress-down day for Allergy Awareness Month. The money collected helped subsidize the awareness pins the students received and the rest of the proceeds will be used in the new year to launch an awareness campaign at Gardenview. We thank our school nurse Andrea Mihailescu and parent Ms. Menshick for their involvement in organizing the event as well as getting speaker Kyle Dine to present to students on June 15th. Sponsors also gave prizes to be raffled to help raise more money for this worthy cause. We thank our sponsors Marcello Restaurant, St. Laurent Coiffure, Raquel Jewelry, Khoi Spa, Lana and Trina Nails.
