Une initiative de la Chaire Religion, spiritualité et santé Faculté de théologie et de sciences religieuses de
l’Université Laval
Les sociétés contemporaines sont confrontées à de multiples défis dans le champ de la santé physique et
mentale : pluralisme culturel lié aux migrations et réfugiés, maladies émergentes, nouvelles formes de
malaises et souffrances sociales. Dans le même temps les réponses strictement biomédicales ne semblent
plus être suffisantes : remise en cause et effets iatrogènes des soins, des médicaments, pressions dans les
systèmes de santé (technoscience, allocation du temps et des ressources de santé).
Dans ces conditions,
quelles nouvelles formes ou formes alternatives de recours au soin sont envisagées et expérimentées ?
Quelles sont les nouvelles formes d'accueil et hospitalité que nos sociétés peuvent offrir afin de répondre à
ces nouvelles demandes de soin ? Quelles questions éthiques soulèvent-elles ? Comment les croyances, les
valeurs et les aspirations religieuses et spirituelles sont-elles reconnues ?
Dans cette perspective, le
présent colloque tentera de cerner les différentes alternatives institutionnelles, professionnelles,
relationnelles et personnelles proposées pour affronter ces nouveaux enjeux à la fois au Québec, en France.
Pourront être traités dans cette perspective : les maisons de naissance, les centres de soins palliatifs, la
permanence d'accès au soin dans les hôpitaux, les centres communautaires, les associations bénévoles, les
structures alternatives pour toxicomanes, les soins à domicile, les résidences de personnes âgées. Il s'agira
également de cerner quelles sont les nouvelles formes d'inhospitalité et d'exclusion qui se développent.

AUTOUR DE LA DIVERSITÉ DU RELIGIEUX CONTEMPORAIN
William James et la religion comme marqueur identitaire
Alors que les sociétés occidentales actuelles semblent vivre une mutation et une recomposition
paradigmatique du religieux, que devient le religieux contemporain? Quelles constantes et variables peuton observer à son sujet? Les religions et le religieux continuent-ils de constituer un marqueur identitaire
fort dans notre société?
Pour répondre à ces questions, nous proposons d’étudier un auteur qui a tenté de saisir les figures du
religieux afin de mettre en évidence des éléments conceptuels qui pourront nous aider à explorer de
manière critique le déplacement du religieux contemporain. William James, avec son livre « The Varieties
of Religious Experience », a reçu un accueil assez fort, principalement dans le champ de la psychologie
religieuse. Dans le sillon de son œuvre, nous est-il possible de construire une grille de lecture autour de la
diversité de l’expérience religieuse, d’en évaluer les forces et limites, et éventuellement de « tester »
l’adaptabilité de notre réflexion jamesienne à travers une ou deux études de cas contemporains?
Le colloque réunira des chercheurs intéressés à l’œuvre de James, mais aussi des personnes intéressées à
jeter un nouveau regard sur le religieux contemporain. Nous voulons que des personnes des disciplines
théologiques et des sciences humaines des religions interviennent dans ce colloque, afin de développer le
réflexe d’un regard croisé sur un même objet, celui du religieux contemporain.
