WCC Ride to Montargis – July 2016
2016 is the 50th anniversary of the twinning of Crowborough and Montargis, and as a result the club is
organising a ride from Crowborough to Montargis next summer. We want to get lots of our members to
take part in this ride and it will be suitable for all of our ride groups.
There will be three main options for the ride, to suit riders of all abilities.

Option 1: 4-day ride from Crowborough to Montargis. Leave Crowborough on Tuesday 26th July to
get the 1730 ferry from Newhaven, then overnight in Dieppe. Ride to Beauvais on Wednesday 27th
(65 miles, much of it along the Avenue Verte), then to Rambouillet on Thursday 28th (also 65 miles)
and to Montargis on Friday 29th (70 downhill miles)
Option 2: 3-day ride from Crowborough to Montargis following the same route but leaving
Wednesday 27th July. Leave early afternoon to get the 1730 ferry, then overnight in Dieppe. Ride to
Aubergenville on Thursday 28th (105 miles) and to Montargis on Friday 29th (100 miles)
Option 3: 2-day ride (also on the same route) from Crowborough to Montargis, leaving Thursday
28th July. Leave early to get the 0900 ferry, then cycle 65 miles before overnighting in Beauvais.
Then 140 miles to Montargis on the final day
It is proposed that all three rides are co-ordinated to arrive at a rendezvous a few miles short of Montargis
in the evening of Friday July 29th, then ride together into Montargis to a deafening silence.
We are looking into the possibility of rides with local cycling groups while we are there. I would have
thought that most people will come home on Sunday 31st July, but you can stay longer if you want to. I can
think of four main options for coming home:

Option 1: Train to Dieppe then ferry to Newhaven (1230, 1800 or 2359 departure, so 1500, 2100 or
0400 arrival according to the timetable)
Option 2: Train to Paris then Eurostar (Ebbsfleet is the most convenient arrival point)
Option 3: Cadge a lift with some of the other people presumably driving back
Option 4: Ride back
All of these rides are planned to be social and enjoyable rides, with the four day ride at an easy pace. Plus
we’ll have a van to offer support to cyclists, as well as to transport bikes back to Crowborough if desired.
